“Something very special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

A wonderful 7 days. Introduced by two separate friends. For those who have had enough of "cookie cutter" 5 star hotels this a real gem. Family run, this has been beautifully designed as a cross between a Turkish/Lebanese palace, with huge really comfortable rooms all beautifully decorated. The owner's eye for detail is apparent everywhere. Food relatively simple but delicious - everything fresh from the market. The staff are all extremely friendly, as was everybody we met in this part of Egypt. About 20 minutes from the Valley of the Kings, this is perfect as a base for this fascinating part of Egypt, or just for total relaxation in a really sophisticated Middle Eastern environment.
I note that the previous reviews seem to all agree with us! Egypt is off the tourist agenda at present so a great time to visit.

We ate here one night whilst staying elsewhere in El Gezira. It's a bit of a drive from the town (about 15 minutes). The atmosphere at the restaurant was amazing. It's stunningly beautiful with the main restaurant (about 6 tables) in a courtyard, and bar at the back with sofas and comfortable arm chairs. We had a drink at the bar first, and the staff were very helpful. We ate in the courtyard, with mezze to share to start, and then salmon for our main courses. The food was the best we had in our whole time in Egypt - beautifully made and presented, and excellent quality.

Much recommended for a romantic evening out.

We were told of this hotel by friends and we are so delighted we were able to stay for two nights. An extremely peaceful stay with chaos of busy roads, dust and streams of tourists left outside. The atmosphere was lovely. The rooms delightful, clean, spacious and charming. Food was good, and staff helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Each room has a different theme, so any room would be a good choice.

This really is like something out of a storybook. Every detail is beautiful and you feel like royalty. The bathroom is bigger than my apartment. My girlfriend was ecstatic. Nothing like the big chain hotels. Pricey for my budget, but definitely an experience everyone must have at least once in their life.

I wish we could have stayed longer than the 2 nights we spent here towards the end of May. This is the perfect antidote to the frenetic hustle and bustle of Luxor and the temples and tombs of ancient Egypt. Gently splashing fountains in lovely courtyards with great rooms and huge bathrooms, delicious fresh food and a super pool with delightful sitting. areas - this is the perfect peaceful retreat and a great alternative to the 5* hotel chain accommodation in Luxor.

We are a family of 4 (boys 9 & 11) and have just returned from a fantastic trip to Egypt where we felt safe and cared for the entire time - without exception the Egyptians were utterly lovely people. Being our 1st trip travelling 'off piste' with children we stayed only in 5 star hotels. Our family favourite was Al Moudira. On arrival one is struck by the authentic middle eastern styling and vibrant colours. There are pockets of outdoor living areas scattered around the grounds - antiques, fountains, lanterns etc..Our interconnected family was beautiful, huge, v.comfortable and simply like no other I have stayed in. I had concerns that our (lively) boys would have to hush around the pool area, however their laughter and pool antics were very much embraced by the staff. The staff were outstanding, v.friendly, nothing a problem, and loved children. Day trips were great value and I booked our tour guide (the great Ali) and driver on arrival, as well as the sites, we rode horses and watched the sun go down on a nile boat trip - all organised through reception. In the evening we dined alfresco in the beautiful courtyard area lit by candlelight and were loathed to eat anywhere else as the food was so good. The real beauty of this hotel is it's rural location away from the bustle of luxor, tucked in a small village 20 mins from the centre. It was such a treat after a day's sightseeing to witness rural egypt whilst driving through sugar cane fields back to our oasis.

This is a very special hotel and we loved it. An earlier reviewer thought it looked tired, we thought it looked wonderful. The quirkiness of the antiique furniture, the thought which has gone into creating so many places to relax, the eccentricity of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the fabulous pool and the gardens all make for a wonderful place to stay. The staff are excellent and look after their guests with the lightest of touches. If this is your first trip to Luxor it is worth paying the tiny extra amount to have the concierge organise your excursions and engage a driver or boatman known to them when you explore the sites or the river. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the ferry by car, which gives you a chance to see how life is lived in the area, something you would not do at a glossy hotel on the East Bank of the Nile. All in all a real treat for the discerning traveller. Not for anyone who likes glossy hotels with masses of marble and night life on the doorstep.
