I have just enojyed my 17 th visit to Luxor and this is my third stay at the Sonesta. Over the years I have stayed in a few different hotels in Luxor but this is certainly top of my list. Some recent reviews I find amazing. The hotel lobby is not tired and the rooms are certainly of a very high standard. (I would love to stay in one of the rooms on the upper floors but I suspect I can't afford them).
Having been previously to the hotel with friends we sent an email requesting adjoining rooms on the side overlkooking the area owhich was once the local swimming pool. This is much quieter than the sde overlloking the electricity company. Even though we did not stay in frontfacing rooms we all had the most amazing views of the Nile and it was such a delight watching the sunset in the evenings. Far better than watching the telly. Not that we ever did.
I couldn't find fault with anything to do with my room. The standard lamp wasn't working and was sorted out almost as soon as I asked. The furnishings and bedding are immaculate and towel change tweice a day is amazing. The only small gripe that we all had is that none of the balcony nlights work which is a shame but not a major problem.
The breakfast buffet is really really good and the choice (considering the great lack of visitors during October is amazing. I'm willing to try anything and couldn't decide what one Egyptian dish was until we all realised it was like black peas. Loved loved loved the breakfasts and the staff were very attentive.
We dined twice in the Serapsis restaurant and once in the Japanese restaurant and again we couldn't fault the food or the service.
The pontoon in the pool area was in the process of being recovered whilst we were there but again because of the number of guests there were still plenty of sunbeds there and each morning the towel man laid out 4 beds for us as soon as he saw us at breakfast. The lovely Nagha still works there. She is an absolute delight and a real asset to the hotel but then again so are all the staff.
I have read earlier reviews about the staff on reception being unfriendly. I never found this and they couldn't have been more helpful or polite.
I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this hotel. IT is definitely a comfortable haven and a welcome site to return to after a hectic days (or in our case weekends) visit to the major sites.
You will not be disappointed.
