Just spent 28 days at the Sheraton. For those of you who have stayed there before not a lot has changed, all the staff are just as helpful, you only have to be at breakfast when you get the new arrivals turn up for breakfast and see the waiters they met on their last visit, it’s hugs and kisses all round. I cannot count the amount of times I have heard people say, “it’s just like home from home”
The hotel was not very full, but that meant you had plenty of room at the pool and dining room.
To name but a few, The Lantern, The Puddle duck, The King of Thie, The Fortune Cookie, Maxime and Snobs. We have eaten at them all, and not had a bad meal at any of them. Our favourite is the Lantern. The 3 restaurants in the hotel are just as good, Karnak, Indian and Italian, and not forgetting room service, the only difference is you don’t have to go out of the hotel and the cost is a little more, but so what we are on holiday.
At this moment you are getting a good rate of exchange. One thing, if you bring travellers cheques you can only change them at Thomas Cook in Luxor at an interest rate of 2.5%. The hotel no longer has a bank in reception. Never used the ATM machine, not sure if it was working.
The small pool is heated, but the round pool is not. This is no fault of the hotel there is a fuel shortage in Luxor that is affecting all businesses. The people you meet at the pools are great to talk to and are from all walks of life, never a dull moment. The waiters are on hand to serve you what ever you want, or just have a snack at one of the poolside tables. Be warned the massage man who comes round the pool touting for business can be annoying, but if you are firm but polite and tell him right from the start, you are not interested, you should be OK. We were.
Lap top / Telephone
As I said we came for a month, so communication back home could have proved to be expensive. We got a taxi to Television Street and asked for the large vodafone shop. Once there my wife bought a pay as you go phone for £16.00 and paid £20.00 for pay as you go calls. She now has a phone that she can bring back time after time and just needs to visit Vodafone and get it topped up when it runs out. I on the other hand purchased a mobile broadband USB stick (Dongle) Not sure what I paid. I told Vodafone I only wanted to check e-mails etc. That cost me £10.00 for a months use. At the end of the day it was a lot cheaper than paying the hotel for an Internet card. The Sheraton do provide a free Internet service in the entrance for 45 minutes per day.
Carriage and taxi drivers
As soon as you get outside the gate of the Sheraton you will be hassled over and over again and for those of you who have been in the past it is worse than it as ever been. The tourist trade in Luxor is virtually non existent and it’s a shame. When you get hassled reply with a smile on your face, be polite and they will leave you alone.
Baggage weight allowance
We travelled with Monark, they do check your hand baggage and charge you £15.00 a kilo if you are overweight. Since we have been hear we have been converted to fly Egypt Air, it is cheaper and the baggage allowance is better. Each passenger is allowed 2 cases each can weigh 23 kilo’s and hand baggage can weigh 8 kilo’s. You will even save money on the flight, as it is soft drinks only.
Would I come back?
“YES” We have already made a provisional booking for next year. We spoke to lots of people who are coming back and would not go anywhere else. Like all hotels it has some bad points, too few to mention. If you were shortly to be making the trip to Luxor and the Sheraton hotel all being well you will have a fantastic time.

Thank you very much for your visit and your loyalty to the Sheraton Luxor Resort and for taking the time writing to us on TripAdvisor.Thank you very much as well for praising our team and their standards of service, they would be truly happy when we deliver the message to them. The ATM, tough correspondence is running between the hotel & the bank providing the service to replace it. WiFi, unfortunately, the hotel owning company still in studying to upgrade the service & to own it, we are currently using third party thus the service for now against fee, where we are looking to own it to provide it free to our guest and upgrade to be more speed. We hope that above meets with your requirements and looking forward to welcome you again in order to touch our improvements.
