“Excellent helpful staff, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I stayed here for a week and loved it!

It was low-season so it wasn't very busy, but the staff were incredly helpful and friendly. The pool area was lovely overlooking the Nile and the Valley of Kings in the distance.

You can get some very good deals if you shop around and I would definitely return. I loved sitting in the evening having dinner, looking at the Valley of King's lit up in the distance. Total bliss!

Great place to be. Good atmosphere. Nice cabins en great pool! Easy access to wonderful Luxor and it's great sights. The restaurants are mixed, so some Chinese en Italian food is possible. It has a nice yard where you can walk. the room is air conditioned and big.

Just spent 28 days at the Sheraton. For those of you who have stayed there before not a lot has changed, all the staff are just as helpful, you only have to be at breakfast when you get the new arrivals turn up for breakfast and see the waiters they met on their last visit, it’s hugs and kisses all round. I cannot count the amount of times I have heard people say, “it’s just like home from home”
The hotel was not very full, but that meant you had plenty of room at the pool and dining room.

Restaurants
To name but a few, The Lantern, The Puddle duck, The King of Thie, The Fortune Cookie, Maxime and Snobs. We have eaten at them all, and not had a bad meal at any of them. Our favourite is the Lantern. The 3 restaurants in the hotel are just as good, Karnak, Indian and Italian, and not forgetting room service, the only difference is you don’t have to go out of the hotel and the cost is a little more, but so what we are on holiday.

Money
At this moment you are getting a good rate of exchange. One thing, if you bring travellers cheques you can only change them at Thomas Cook in Luxor at an interest rate of 2.5%. The hotel no longer has a bank in reception. Never used the ATM machine, not sure if it was working.

Pools
The small pool is heated, but the round pool is not. This is no fault of the hotel there is a fuel shortage in Luxor that is affecting all businesses. The people you meet at the pools are great to talk to and are from all walks of life, never a dull moment. The waiters are on hand to serve you what ever you want, or just have a snack at one of the poolside tables. Be warned the massage man who comes round the pool touting for business can be annoying, but if you are firm but polite and tell him right from the start, you are not interested, you should be OK. We were.

Lap top / Telephone
As I said we came for a month, so communication back home could have proved to be expensive. We got a taxi to Television Street and asked for the large vodafone shop. Once there my wife bought a pay as you go phone for £16.00 and paid £20.00 for pay as you go calls. She now has a phone that she can bring back time after time and just needs to visit Vodafone and get it topped up when it runs out. I on the other hand purchased a mobile broadband USB stick (Dongle) Not sure what I paid. I told Vodafone I only wanted to check e-mails etc. That cost me £10.00 for a months use. At the end of the day it was a lot cheaper than paying the hotel for an Internet card. The Sheraton do provide a free Internet service in the entrance for 45 minutes per day.

Carriage and taxi drivers
As soon as you get outside the gate of the Sheraton you will be hassled over and over again and for those of you who have been in the past it is worse than it as ever been. The tourist trade in Luxor is virtually non existent and it’s a shame. When you get hassled reply with a smile on your face, be polite and they will leave you alone.

Baggage weight allowance
We travelled with Monark, they do check your hand baggage and charge you £15.00 a kilo if you are overweight. Since we have been hear we have been converted to fly Egypt Air, it is cheaper and the baggage allowance is better. Each passenger is allowed 2 cases each can weigh 23 kilo’s and hand baggage can weigh 8 kilo’s. You will even save money on the flight, as it is soft drinks only.

Would I come back?
“YES” We have already made a provisional booking for next year. We spoke to lots of people who are coming back and would not go anywhere else. Like all hotels it has some bad points, too few to mention. If you were shortly to be making the trip to Luxor and the Sheraton hotel all being well you will have a fantastic time.

Thank you very much for your visit and your loyalty to the Sheraton Luxor Resort and for taking the time writing to us on TripAdvisor.Thank you very much as well for praising our team and their standards of service, they would be truly happy when we deliver the message to them. The ATM, tough correspondence is running between the hotel & the bank providing the service to replace it. WiFi, unfortunately, the hotel owning company still in studying to upgrade the service & to own it, we are currently using third party thus the service for now against fee, where we are looking to own it to provide it free to our guest and upgrade to be more speed. We hope that above meets with your requirements and looking forward to welcome you again in order to touch our improvements.

Fantastic, amazing, brilliant.. I could go on...the location.. Stunning.over looking the Valkey of the Kings which is lit up at night... Ths is on the edge of the Luxor hotel strip.. Away from the others, it is very close to the Nile cruises, so an occasional smell of Diesel can linger, but settle down at the Bungalow pool for a quiet ,clean pool, the attendant is very attentive, this is a heat trap.. Lovely! Roll into the pool for a refreshing dip... The bar is very nice, although expect to pay UK prices, bottle of wine £16, local beer £3.20. Food is excellent .. Buffet in the Karnuk restaurant, you can have literally whatever you want! There is no scrimping here.. La Mamma Italian.. Set menu.. Never seen a starter so big! The Indian restaurant.. Delicious... I wish I was still there... Definitely going to rebook.. Use Ali carriage 340 for a great trip around the town..
This Town has the haves and he have nota... So expect to tip .. Take dollars.. That equates to about 6 EGP .. Take hand sanitizer as the EGP notes are filthy!
If you haven't been to Egypt... Please please go to Luxor.. You will not regret it

Room Tip: Nile view is a must, the garden view will be of the car park!

Nothing to rave about except for the beautiful views of the Nile. We mostly ate in the hotel - enough options for 5 days. Food and service were ok. Its one of the furthest away from town, which is a plus, but its only 10 mins by taxi ( 30 EP one way) into downtown, the temple, and the souk...you need a car and a guide to venture out onto the west bank and beyond.

Room Tip: Nile view!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sheraton for 7 nights after our Nile Cruise, it was nice to relax after seeing the wonderful historic sights of Egypt.
I felt that this hotel had a Western feel about it; the hotel employs women (we had encountered only men doing all jobs up until this point), the staff genuinely seem to want to help and I didn't feel uncomfortable sunbathing by the pool.
We thought that there was a good variety of food at breakfast and dinner, including traditional dishes. Pleasing to find that the food was hot, not lukewarm, too! The salads, bread and pastries are dangerously good, just watch out for opportunistic birds which will help themselves if you leave your food unattended! In addition to the buffet restaurant (Karnak), there are Italian and Indian restaurants. We tried both as it was nice to have a change, we thought that the Indian was the better of the two. If you book your holiday via Thomson, ask for the set menus to ensure that your food is included in your Half Board package.
Please remember that Egypt hotel ratings work differently to the UK's, they go up to 7*s. The Sheraton is a 5* hotel which I feel is about right. As I already alluded to, all the staff were friendly. Some were better at the"detail" than others, we were missing items of cutlery, crockery etc. on many occasions on a table which was supposedly ready for use. The tablecloths could do with being changed more regularly too.
Finally, a word of advice to the ladies out there. If you go outside the hotel, please try to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to yourselves by covering up. The popular tourist areas especially are full of men, women and children hassling you to buy things and they will make a beeline for ladies who have too much flesh on display (in their opinion), as well as women who are travelling on their own or together, i.e. without a man.

Room Tip: We paid for a Nile room, it was just lovely to look out over the Nile across to the Valley of the Ki...

We had a Indian meal one night in the Agra rea=staurant which was very good
As with all 5X hotels you get what you expect so that was good
