“Absolutely Idyllic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

Have been travelling throughout Egypt since 1969, Have stayed in most of the tourist areas and elsewhere The Joliville is without doubt one of the best Hotels one can stay at Beautiful gardens and very attentive staff although service has diminished slightly since Maritim Group took over from the Movenpick chain.
Very easy and cheap to get around eating out in the many restaurant is wonderful
(Nobs is one not to be missed.)
Overnight train (Sleeper) to Cairo is old but cheap (£9.00 stirling) clean and punctual and includes breakfast before arriving at Cairo early morning, Plenty of taxi's available to organise your own day(s)
In Luxor keep away from the Holiday Reps pushing their trips everything is available at one tenth of their prices.
I will be arriving for our late spring break in May 2011 where I will meet up with many old friends

We chose this hotel because we also travelled with an 80+ parent . The hotel has excellent facilities for children and travellers . The extensive and well maintained garden of the hotel situated on the island gives its high ratings , especially the view over the Nile and the sense of space - There is a choice to chill out on site or take independent trips door to door with taxi hire for half day at very reasonable price set for tourists and come back to enjoy the hotel grounds. We had half board with superb buffet for breakfast and dinner - We did not really feel hungry for lunch but would use the pool side bar restaurant to get some snacks at lunch. You would expect to pay high rates for such hotel but at the end it was excellent value for money - I don't really envy the other squeezed brand hotels in Luxor . The hotel is upgrading its rooms and expanding in other areas , ask for new refurbished rooms if you can. We did not feel troubled by the work but some who stayed longer and like to sit outside their rooms found it inconvenient . The pool was a bit chilly but manageable once in . Lots of space , no need to book your sun lounger . The staff was always courteous and discreet. No wifi in rooms but easy access in the lobby with your own laptop.

We spent a week at this hotel from 13th to 20th December. After reading a few bad reviews I was slightly worried when we arrived. There was nothing to worry about. The room was basic but very clean, food excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, location good if you just want to relax and chill out. There was some building work going on which did not bother us. The main restaurant was closed from renovation and was probably finished by Christmas, but they were unsing the "Sobeck Hall" which was fine.
The grounds are large and the catering well organised so no crowning. The Infinity pool was cold even though it was said to be heated (22oc mosy days) but this did not stop the children swimming. All in all great value and a very happy relaxing stay.

Rated as a 5 star hotel this is far from the truth. The old rooms set in bugalows - 14 rooms per bungalow - are at best 3 star. The star rating is not the issue, they are old, very tired and smelly. Cramped unpleasant rooms you would expect in a 2-3 star hotel. The new rooms, which we moved to, at first inspection look great, but they are so poorly designed and cheaply built that you may as well be sharing the room with the person next door - no sound insulation at all, you can hear and experience everything. If you go half or full board all your meals are in the main resturant, which is basically a down market caffeteria. All in all to be avoided at all costs.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2010

Spent a week with my husband in the middle of December. The hotel is going through a major renovation, which can be disturbing for some rooms. We were lucky and wasn't bothered with the ongoing work. But some rooms might have been.

Anyway, the hotel is fantastically located on the island, the surroundings are magnificent. Just breakfast on the terrace being able to look at old the wildlife going on was a treat. The pool area was perfect and the service provided excellent. The pool could have been a little warmer though, but guess the night temperatures prohibites this.

A little drawback was the fact that so much of the island was closed off due to the enlargement of the hotel. It would have been nice to be able to work all over the island, but this was not possible.

The room we had wasn't renovated and therefore a little worn out. I am sure that the renovated rooms will be much better. But there is nothing to complain about with the standard - unless you are picky. TV channels; Nice to actually have something to watch except BBC world. English speaking movie channel made the long December evenings a little nicer. It was way too cold to spend time on the terrace after sundown and hotel inhouse entertainment not to be found.

Trips into Luxor was easy to get, the shuttle worked perfectly and taxis back were not a problem. To rent a taxi for day trip to the West Bank was easily made through the security outside the reception. Cost for 4 hrs just about 120/140 Egyptian pounds. Arrange your own trip! Also don\t miss out on the balloon trip. Unfortunately, our winded away, but next time we will surely go.

Will we come back to this hotel..... Yes!

This hotel is for those that is looking for relaxation, culture and pool life.

We have just returned from a lovely trip to the Maritim Jollie Ville hotel. We had planned the trip to coincide with a birthday and were not dissapointed in our choice of hotels. The location is very unique and being on an island close to the edge of the Nile you are amongst a wide variety of interesting wild birds.

The food was excellent, especially at breakfast where there was a huge range of choice for everyone. As a family of vegetarians, the choice in the evening was not so good as most dishes had either meet or fish in them. We did not go hungry however and the pudding choice was very varied and tasty. The service was very friendly and responsive to your needs. An un requested Birthday cake which appeared in the room was a lovely thoughtful gesture. We were not able to book full board and hope this could be available for the future.

The staff overall were very helpful and friendly and did not pressure you to tip. The service was very good and we enjoyed talking to all the staff, whose english is generally exceptional. Additional services were offered, but were not pushed too hard in contrast to the hard sell in Luxor. The free shuttle bus to Luxor was helpful and runs fairly frequently.

The room was clean, comfortable and adequate for our needs and in amongst great formal gardens and mature trees. I believe the rooms are being updated and this should improve it further. There is building work going on, but this was not intrusive appart from a few hours where power tools were being used.

The pools are very clean and well serviced by staff. There is a family infinity pool and a further one which is for adults only. I found the water a refreshing experience, but my partner and son found the water too cool at this time of year. As you would expect, the weather was beautiful, but remember a jumper for the evenings and early mornings.

We went on 3 organised trips arranged through Michelle from Cosmos. She was very helpful and the trips with an egyptologist made it informative and intersting and worth the money. Our 11 year old son thoroughly enjoyed the trips, especially the Valley of the Kings. Personally I preferred the Valley of the Queens, as it was a quieter, more beautiful location and nowhere near as busy.

I would have no hesitation in returning and hope the planned growth in size doesn't compromise the close personal service and uniquness in the future. There is so much to see and experience, I will definitely return in the future.
