Although I was a bit reluctant to book a "lazy" vacation, I let myself get talked into it and I must say I did not regret it one bit. The hotel is in a great location on an island in the Nile. Only that should be enough to book, yet there are so many other things that make this hotel worthwile. The swimming pools are wonderful, food is good, the staff is very friendly, service is always impeccable and the rooms, gardens and buildings are extremely well maintained. Even though the hotel is located outside of Luxor, all great historic sights are only a cheap taxi ride away. I would certainly recommend this hotel to everybody.

Want the following from a holiday? Extremely attentive professional staff, more than adequate standard room, no queuing for superb food, outstanding guaranteed weather, 3 pools with plenty of sunbeds all with mattress's, free Internet access, second to none security because you are on an island on the Nile with fantastic views, simple and cheap access to Luxor if you want the hussle and bussel of this diverse and historic country AND get a great tan! My husband and I are here till the 28th June and already über relaxed.

I booked solely due to Mr Umbricht replying to every review and felt assured of a stress free holiday. It started with stress though at the airport as our luggage hadn't arrived! But a quick trip back to the airport a few hours later meant we could start the holiday. For anyone flying into Cairo and connecting to Luxor it would be wise to at least pack a bikini, swimming shorts and sun lotion (medication too) in your hand luggage should your main cases be delayed.

We intended to use the gym at 7am before it gets too hot and then shower for breakfast, but arrived and it was closed until 9 am :-( one very quick request to Amina the hotels guest coordinator and the gym will now be open for us from 7am until we leave.

Please please consider this lovely hotel for your next stay and I promise you won't be disappointed! It is a crying shame that the British public have stopped coming here because of the political changes in Egypt. This is simply RIDICULOUS as ITS ON AN ISLAND WITH ONE BRIDGE AS ACCESS!!!!!!

And another massive massive difference is.....I haven't seen 1 Russian here, which many of you I'm sure have experienced elsewhere can spoil a perfectly civilised holiday in Egypt.

Any questions drop me a line.

Tracey xx

We stayed for a week in May 2013. The hotel is self-contained on a beautiful island in the Nile. Most of the rooms are in single storey blocks overlooking quite remarkable and well-tended gardens. We specified a Nile view, and were not disappointed. All the Nile-side rooms and the three or four restaurants have lovely views over the river to the Theban Hills. Our room was comfortable, private, quiet and clean, although not exactly luxurious. We would have preferred to have a bathtub, and understand that rooms with a bath are available by special request, but they may not have a Nile view. The restaurants are good - French, Italian, and an open (variously themed) buffet, also a pleasant cafe serving food at one of the two infinity pools (there is a smaller, adults only, pool near the restaurants, which was absolute heaven for lazing about, reading a book, and having the occasional dip, with drinks and snacks when needed). The food in all the eating places was excellent and varied, and we had no tummy troubles. There are lots of walkways through the extensive gardens and along the bank of the Nile (where you can see many bird species), a viewing jetty with shady trees, and a gazebo further along the bank which, (according to a 2007 plaque) is Queen Sonia of Norway's favourite place on the Nile. The staff were very helpful and attentive. We went into Luxor several times, but you had to get used to dealing with hordes of people trying to sell you things - unless you actually want to buy (in which case make sure to haggle the price), a polite but firm "No thanks" is normally sufficient. The town may be a bit of a culture shock to some, and I confess that we were usually very glad to return to our island haven. Security on the island (and getting to it) is in evidence although I am not qualified to say how robust it is. Fortunately for us, but not for the Egyptians, the hotel (and indeed all the Luxor temples and Theban sites) were very sparsely patronised. This is presumably because of some nervousness about the Egyptian security situation and also the recession in Europe and the USA. We wanted to go there before we were past travelling age, so we just got on with it, and enjoyed it immensely. Even in May it was very hot (41C), but it's a dry heat and therefore much more manageable than where you have humidity, so make sure you can cover up from the sun, carry water, and don't try to do too much, especially at the hottest times of day. We went on several organised trips from the hotel (a car and guide to ourselves instead of the more customary minibus), to the Valleys of the Kings, of the Queens, of the Nobles, the temple of Hatshepsut, the artisans' village and tombs (exceptional - only four of us there that morning!), the temples at Luxor and Karnak - all very well worth-while, but don't do more than one or two sites in any one day! Luxor museum is superb, with magnificent sculptures, hieroglyphics, artefacts, and two marvellous mummified kings who certainly didn't look their age (about 3000 years).
We had a brief visit to the Hilton to see what we'd missed (it had been on our shortlist). It is a true city luxury hotel with super Nile views and facilities - but almost deserted, which made it seem rather sterile - another casualty of low visitor numbers. We would certainly go back to the Jolie Ville.

Room Tip: Go for Nile view

Our holiday had started and still nothing arranged. Great prices, but lousy hotel reviews indicated a “Staycation”.
During a recent flight, I’d read about Egypt. Apparently, put off by the Arab Spring 2 years ago, the tourists had not returned. For the British, this has advantages; lower prices, fewer people at the key sights and good availability.
A few rather unpleasant reviews later, we discovered the Maritim Jolie Ville, Luxor. This seemed to have good reviews. With flights at a sensible hour, we booked on the Sunday night to fly out on Wednesday. Not a lot of money and, in truth not expecting anything special – just good basic accommodation, a pool, decent weather and some interesting history.
Luxor Airport is modern, if lacking in air conditioning. The Red Sea Holidays rep met us at the airport, although only us going to the Jolie Ville. It was dark. For some reason most of the street lights were out (apparently it happens sometimes), but there again, the drivers didn’t seem too keen on lights either. It seems that red traffic lights are there for decoration.
The reception area at the Jolie Ville is everything that I’d expect of five star venue. Yes, I was suspicious when the rep asked to take our passports to sign us in, whilst we were given complimentary tea. After no more than 2 minutes, the passports were returned. All done for us. No standing at the desk needed.
The room
The rooms are arranged as 16 outside facing rooms in an octagonal bungalow, of which there are many. These are spacious, immaculately clean and air-conditioned, each with separate thermostats. Ours was no more than 30 metres from the ”Relaxing Pool”. This is the smallest of the three pools and adjacent to the main restaurants and bar. Like all the pools, it has a view over the River Nile.
Each room is cleaned daily, with fresh towels when sought. The rooms have all facilities, including WiFi; TV, with many English language channels; air-conditioning; hair drier and a mixture of English & continental plug sockets.
Pools
As indicated, the hotel as three pools. With outdoor (in the shade) temperatures reaching 46 deg C, each pool had a temperature between 31 deg C & 33 deg C. This was perfect. The water was clean, warm and inviting. All had towel service, with refreshments and food close by.
The food
The food was outstanding, the menu is extensive. With a choice of bar meals, poolside meals, a la carte or themed buffet there was always a good choice – although one tip is to use their “meal packages”. The buffet, which could amount to 5 courses if you so wished, at about £17.00 per head, is excellent value, although certainly higher than local “Egyptian” prices. But the quality is very high. The a la carte meal was exceptional.
If it is on the schedule, take the “kitchen tour”. We were shown around by the Executive Sous Chef. He is a joy to speak with. The facilities, employing some 60 staff are outstanding. All meals are fully prepared on site, with only ingredients bought in. For example, breakfast time, which is available from 0500hrs, baking commences at 0400hrs, this including bread, bread rolls, pasties, muffins, cakes. Consequently everything is fresh. Proper “stone baked breads” are made in an outside, traditional oven overlooking the Nile.
Cleanliness is exceptional. There is an overriding sense of cleanliness and attention to hygiene that I have not seen anywhere. Forget separate food preparation areas – these kitchens have separate, air-conditioned preparation rooms! As an example of the attention to detail, when eggs arrive at “good inwards”, the shells of eggs are thoroughly washed in a special room before coming into the kitchen proper.
The water for the ice passes through 6 purification units. At the Jolie Ville you can have ice in your drink!
It is clear from the kitchen tour that the food here is not pre-packaged and microwaved; as a consequence it is no surprise that the food is outstanding.
Generally
The kind of attention to detail demonstrated in the kitchens is seen everywhere. The reception team, especially the young ladies, were wonderfully friendly and helpful; the tennis coach, knowledgeable and keen; “Brian from Lincoln City” (not his real name), a delight in letting me sail a felucca. And so it goes no.
I have been fortunate in staying at a number of goof resort hotels, including the Paris, Las Vegas.
The Maritim Jolie Ville is the best so far!

Come to Egypt
Following on from the Arab Spring, tourism has fallen off a cliff. This is a shame. Our first experience showed the Egyptians very friendly and welcoming. Yes, expect to haggle and make sure you agree every deal properly, but having done so, we never regretted anything. By the end of the week, we have very clear intentions of returning.

The staff at the hotel could no be faulted. They were fantastically attentive and helpful. We had a muck up with our hotel room as we required two twin beds not one king and they showed us two different rooms for us to choose from.

The two main pools have a kiddies water area that looked great fun! The food in the restaurant was ok. We ate one meal there and one meal in town and as expected its more expensive in the hotel but the flavour is good.
You can catch the golf buggies around th me complex and there is wifi in the rooms but not round the pool.

Overall the hotel was great! Very happy with our choice. It was out of town so you have to catch the taxi's everywhere but they are cheap around 50-60 return to town and the cab driver will wait for you while you eat dinner or shop. The only downfall of this hotel is the spa. They charge high prices for some services when they don't have the proper equipment to charge those prices I don't think.
I would recommend calling or emailing the hotel in advance of your stay to get the free shuttle bus to pick you up as leaving the airport and bartering with the taxi drivers is sometimes the last thing you want to do in the heat. A taxi to the hotel from the airport should be about 60 but good luck finding that price available!

Room tip
The superior deluxe rooms are in the new buildings 1,2,3 and the standard rooms are in the buildings called a,b,c etc the standard rooms are much closer to the infinity and adults only VIP pool and the restaurants. This may alter your decision on which room you book as walking to the main pool in 40 degrees can be hard work. There is another pool near the new buildings so it is up to you which pool you use!
