“Luxor/Karnak absolutely FANTASTICALLY out of this world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Highlights

• Karnak Mercure Resort (Sofitel) outstanding fantastic hotel 7* service, food and grounds
• Our truly truly amazing Egyptologist guide for 3+ days around some of the many absolutely staggering and stunningly beautiful historical sites. It was a real honour to travel around with an absolute mind blowing mind field of outstanding knowledge with a real passion for Egyptology that just shines through and whose English is far better than mine! Highly highly recommended, please feel free to drop me a message and I will very gladly put you in touch. The sites and our learning experience of the history in Luxor would not have been as close to magical as it was or truly truly appreciate the places we visited as much as we did without him
• The from their heart amazing, kind, really really friendly Egyptian people we had the privilege and real pleasure to spend time with

Karnak Mercure Resort (Sofitel)
We felt so relaxed from the moment we arrived. The hotel grounds are very spacious and beautiful, the food really fantastic and staff 7*. Cleanliness of the hotel, pools and rooms faultless. The bedding was exceptional (possibly being Egyptian cotton?!) and mattresses better than mine at home! Slept so well here. The swimming pools are immaculate.

Food
We went for all inclusive just for ease. If we could bring the late afternoon/evening chef back home with us, we would have, a real gentleman (we didn’t really see the morning chef because we slept a little late!). Mumma mia, what an amazing chef, the fish and meat always always delicious and fresh, fresh vegetables and rice all cooked to absolute perfection every time. The salad was so so fresh, I couldn’t resist and didn’t have any troubles at all. Always a great selection of breads and sweets too. Breakfast there is more than you could ever ask for, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, freshly cooked omelettes of your choice, fried/boiled eggs, sausages and fresh juice.

Drinks
Very very generous with measures! Always found ourselves asking for less alcohol (and that’s coming from someone that does like the occasional nice strong drink!) and staff so so friendly.

Staff
The staff are so so welcoming and from the heart happy and friendly. Always more than happy to help with absolutely anything. But never so much so that you find it invades your personal time and space, just perfect. Reception always helpful and very very friendly, the restaurant staff always happy, polite, very friendly and helpful, the chef AMAZING! The life guards around the pool always smiling and so friendly and helpful and a really lovely gentleman that works in the Jacuzzi, sauna and gym area.

Trips
Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Temple of Hatshepsut, hot air balloon over Valley of the Kings and various souqs and coffee shops, (all highly recommended)
Hotel safety
Set away from main road behind secure gate manned 24 hours by security

Tips

After a weeks cruise we wanted a relaxing week in a lovely hotel. Was not disappointed.
The staff were great, nothing was too much trouple. Ahmed the head waiter and Ahmed the chef were great and would get anything that you wanted if you asked for it.
There were not very many guests at the hotel while we were there which is very sad as the hotel and location is fantastic. This did not spoil our time there as it was like having your own private pool. Mohammed would have the towels all ready for us when we arrived at the pool and even arranged for the pool to be heated when we mentioned how cold it was.
There were gardeners daily keeping the grounds clean and tidying the gardens.

If anyone is thinking of going to Egypt, I would highly recommend Luxor and definitely highly Mercure Luxor Hotel

We stayed here for a week wanted peace and quiet in the beautiful gardens and that is what we got. Hotel can cater for 650 people but only 100 max because of downturn in tourism This very sad for everyone and I don't see it improving. We have traveled all over Egypt in the 20 years that we have been going there. Luxor is very safe and our favourite place for winter sun. This was our first time at this hotel chosen because we wanted AI and Egyptair direct flight from LHR. We were not disappointed All the staff were excellent The restaurant manager Ahmed Naquiba gave us brilliant service The food was all buffet and suited us well The kofta meatballs the best we have eaten as was the Beef Wellington. The hotel manager was always around in the evening Nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this hotel but you must realize that it is only limping along as guests are needed to enable it to run properly.

Just returned from a lovely week at the Mercure Karnak. We would definitely recommend this hotel, the gardens and pool area are beautiful and drop down onto the Nile. The staff were fantastic, really helpful and friendly. Food was consistently excellent and fresh. Breakfast on the terrace with views over the Nile was our regular morning treat.A special thanks to Ebid for his towel art, much admired and appreciated, as well as daily fresh flowers. We travelled with our teenage children and felt safe at all times, whether in town or in taxis or in the Valley of the Kings. Still can't understand why the tourist numbers are so low, it is safe here. The weather was perfect, hot and sunnyevery day, what more could you ask?

Room Tip: Poolside and garden views were the best

Our first trip to Egypt was all we could have hoped for and it's more than partly down to staying in this fabulous hotel. Everything about it was good or excellent and that's a big plus when you're travelling to a country you're unsure of. All the hotels in Luxor are massive but I think this one has a better setting being a few Km outside of Luxor city. Any time you want to go anywhere it's no trouble to get the hotel bus or a taxi from out the front (be sure to agree a price before you go anywhere and try to use the same driver wherever you go). The a-la-carte restaurant is fine but you get a better choice in the buffet. Breakfast is excellent and the view from the gardens out across the river is breath taking! be sure to travel down the river to Luxor at least once. I want to go back already!

One more piece of advice - if you're going to the Valley of the Kings, book a taxi in advance, agree a price for the whole day and he'll take you to all the monuments and wait for you to return and GO EARLY 6am is best......

Ok for a short stay maximum two nights. The dinner buffet is terrible. No other choice in the restaurant. Limited bar snacks. Room service menu is the best but again a limited choice. The pool is no longer heated in March it was chilly. Under the Sofitel management the standard of food was much better & the pool was heated. Very few guests in the hotel. For one night they had a party of Japanese tourist which meant most of the buffet breakfast was eaten and they were slow to replace! But the position is great away from the noise and dust of Luxor. Just get the food sorted out and we will be back!

Very impressed with this hotel. They have some nice restaurants right in the lobby of the hotel. We enjoyed a great meal for a very reasonable price. A buffet style restaurant also looked good across the lobby. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Great shower after a day of seeing the sights and the pool overlooks the Nile. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and I was able to upload some pics the night we stayed there. The room does have coffee/tea available as part of the price of the room. Of course a well stocked mini bar and safe is also in the room. Beds are comfortable for a good nights sleep. I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting Luxor. I would give this hotel 5 stars.

Room Tip: Best view would be overlooking the Nile.
