“My 'home from home'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2010

I have been staying at this hotel for all my trips to Luxor since 2000 and my previous trip was in March 2010. Upon my return in November, it was good to see that the rooms had had a 'facelift' (long overdue). New beds and bedding, carpets and decor all helped to make the rooms look more sophisticated (in keeping with 5 star rating). I have already booked my next stay - a month in March 2011, so they must be doing something right! The gardens are glorious, the staff are excellent and the restaurants provide varied menus. I am very spoilt at this hotel and it is my 'little bubble', as my previous review was titled. The hotel is very central for the temples and museums on the East Bank.
I have only been home (snowy England) a few days and I am already looking forward to March 2011!

We stayed here last year (2009) and had no complaints whatsoever. We have just returned and although it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay we had some issues.

Prices. Drinks, snacks, and even internet access have gone through the roof. A beer (EL.16 at restaurants outside) are EL40 throughout the hotel. Wifi internet access is EL 80 for ONE HOUR! We didn't even consider eating an evening meal as it was too expensive.
Staff. It is sad that a small percentage of staff spoil your experience. The vast majority of the staff are polite, friendly and charming. However three individuals (waiters around the pool area) were extremely abrupt, bordering onto rudeness - something that wasn't there last year.

After reading all the raving reviews here, thought that we would be staying at a great hotel. While the grounds are very beautiful, and the room was spacious, we did have some issues. There is one computer by the front desk were guests can check internet. Otherwise, paying for internet was about $30 a day, half hour and and hourly rates were also available.

There is free breakfast provided in the hotel, however, we were afraid to eat there. Most of the food that is supposed to be kept warm, was set up outside and there was not heated. Breakfast starts at 5:30, so if unless you eat at that time, your breakfast will be cold. Not to mention the flies! They were all over the food and outside tables. There were choices of pastries and bread inside that looked ok.

Location of the hotel is great, and if you just need a place to sleep, it is a good choice.

Right on the Corniche across from the West Bank - Fabulous location, within walking distance to Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple and the Souks. Friendly, caring staff. Great food, great amenities, all in a tranquil garden setting and cool pool.

Me and my family stayed at the hotel for a week and we weren't disappointed. As previous reviews state, the grounds are shared with the more expensive Winter Palace and were well maintained and included a good choice of restaurants on site. The hotel was nearly through a full refurbishment and our rooms were newly carpeted with new tv's. The beds were comfortable and the staff helpful and polite. There was a decent enough choice at breakfast to keep you going and the location was excellent..5mins away from Luxor temple and 10-15mins from Karnak Temple. There was a Mcdonalds about 10mins away (good for a quick cheap bite) and close by to the old Souk. A taxi from the airport to the hotel should cost apprx 60-70 EP and 15-20 EP to Karnak temple.

As for Luxor itself we have all fallen in love with the city. After reading recommendations on here beforehand and getting prices for various excursions from the local travel agents we managed to get an excellent deal with Mr Hassany's Travel Agency (just along the street from the old winter palace hotel) which saved us plenty of money, the excursions were well organised with an air conditioned mini bus with just one extra traveller on our tour we practically had the tour guide to ourselves, who was both knowledgeable and well humoured. Many thanks to Mr Fox, Ahmed & Refi, for looking after us so well with some good old fashioned customer care. We thoroughly enjoyed Denderah, the tour of the West bank and would definitely recommend the hot air balloon ride which completed our trip perfectly.

We made many friends in Luxor on our short stay who showed us the 'real' egypt through their kindness and hospitality....a Big thankyou to Omar & Mohammed from the shop outside the hotel entrance!! And although the hustle and hassling of some of the taxi and calech drivers can be tiresome it is part and parcel of how traders work in countries like this. On the whole the historical landmarks and the people of Luxor make it what it is and we will definitely be going back again.

A lovely hotel in its own right inside, this comes into its own as it shares gardens, a pool and poolside restaurants with the Winter Palace next door. Service very good, plenty of style and lovely, lovely gardens. To top it off, this is right next door to Luxor Temple!
