“Perfect place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

After staying here last December there was no place I would rather stay at again in Luxor than here and so last week it was a great pleasure to return and was nice to be greeted by familar faces.
Mr Oraby at the Pavillon is most helpful and full of local advice. Ismail on the night staff was most helpful too.
Quality of food available at breakfast was very high, I would like to thank Rashedy there for his unstinting service I received.
This time staying in room 5015 with a huge very comfortable bed with good views over the well maintained lush gardens that teems with birdlife during the day. The gardeners certainly do a wonderful job.
Entry to the Pavillon is through the Winter Palace, the faclities of which are shared with the Pavillon, such as the lovely heated swimming pool and restaurants.
Mr Fathy the assistant Manager and Kamal the concierge of the Winter Palace were again of great help and it was a great pleasure conversing with the General Manager Mr Christian Ruge.
If considering a stay in Luxor, I throughly recommend a stay here, the moment you walk through the door, you enter an Oasis of calm and gentility .

We stayed here to celebrate the New Year 2012 and were impressed. Our room overlooked the hotel garden at the back and was very pleasant. The Pavilon is linked to the Old Winter Palace Hotel and we benefited from having access to their facilities i.e. relaxed bar and a number of nice restaurants. Most days we took breakfast outside in the dinning area and a dip in the pool which was clean and warm; we visited our favourite external restaurant, the Sofra for lunch and dinner – recommended by the hotel staff. The rooms were well maintained and the staff accommodating especially, Ahmed Oraby on reception, who was a level above the rest. In spite of the haggling as soon as you set foot outside the hotel, we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for high up with a bacolny, overlooking the lovely hotel gardens!

Our second visit - and we will be back. The main Winter Palace has a splendid foyer and staircase, making one feel privileged to be there. Lovely gardens - large and beautifully maintained. High quality wooden sun loungers and shades surround the pool area. Breakfast outdoors is a real plus. Food: breakfast choice very good. Lunch near the pool was a disappointment; unimaginative and not enough choice. Dinner in the 1886 restaurant was beautifully served and was good and we ate there twice. The problem was that the menu seemed to be the same every evening. We therefore reluctantly went into Luxor for the rest of the holiday. Overall we love the hotel. If only they could take note of my comments about the food, it would be perfect.

Room Tip: Face the gardens if possible. Higher rooms have a better view.

I have just returned from the Pavillon Winter Palace Hotel (room 5015) after a glorious 10 days. I have stayed in this hotel over 23 times now and always look forward to returning. The staff in the Pavillon are really 1st Class - especially Mr Komaty in reception. (I apologise if I have spelt this wrong) He really is one of the most polite, friendly and helpful people I have come across in the hotel. He treats everyone the same and you will be sure of a warm welcome.

Nothing is ever too much trouble to him and any requests are actioned immediately.

The hotel itself has recently been refurbished, the rooms are quiet and spacious and all look over the gardens. This pavillon part of the hotel sits quietly behind the grand building of the Old Winter Palace and shares all the facilities. The gardens I mention are very impressive in size with mature trees dating back to the early 1900s. It is well tended and each morning you will see the team of gardners cutting the lawns and trimming the plants - being hot, the greenery does grow fast!

The pool area is a real treat, extensive with many areas whether you like sun or shade. Of course this is the best time to go as Luxor still remains fairly quiet.

Sitting on the front terrace and watching the sunset with a G&T in hand is rather magical - and if you like, you can have a nice dinner in the garden or one of the other restaurants before retiring to the Royal bar for a nightcap.

This hotel has it all, the history, the grandeur and the location, so it will come as no surprise it gets many return guests. I would not stay anywhere else in Luxor, it really is like 'home from home'

Room Tip: Room 5015 and 5016 face towards the Valley of the Kings which is lit up in the evening - they are ni...

We found just one aspect to critisize:
The buffet at the Corniche restaurant was not up to standards - but maybe my standards are too high.
For all the rest I quote one of the nice people from the reception desk:
"Consider this hotel to be your second home."
It was more than that, a tranquil piece of heaven where you relaxed after sightseeing and enjoyed a real holiday.
Many thanks to all employees who allowed us an unforgettable week.

I have just returned from my second stay at this hotel, and I am getting to love it more and more. The standards are tip-top all the way, everything is clean, efficient and very friendly. The view from the balcony of the room is like a fairy tale, the breakfast is a great start to the day. If you just want to relax by the pool, that's a very pleasant experience, and if you want to explore Luxor it is just on the doorstep. If I ever go to Luxor again, I would not stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view to the south seem to be nicest, but all have garden views, as far as I could see.

Hi,
I am going back 2 my second home next mth, April 2012 the pavilion hotel winter palace. We have visited many places in Egypt however Luxor always draws us back. I would never stay in another hotel in Luxor. Going back to the pavilion winter palace is like going home to old friends.
The service is first class & everyone looks after you so well. So what if the food & drinks are a little more expensive than outside the hotel. Don't you find that in any country you go to !!!
So having been going to Luxor & my lovely hotel for the past 15 years why now have I decided to write a review ! Well to put the record straight about the pavilion hotel as I have been reading some not very nice reviews lately! The winter palace and pavilion wing share the fantastic gardens and beautifull swimming pool. The pool staff look after you so well & always make you feel so welcome, as I said its like going home to old friends. They get you a towel and escort you to your chosen bed. Nothing is ever to much trouble for the staff. I have always found the food to be excellent. The bedrooms are large and are cleaned every day. Fresh towels every day. you don't need to take a hair dryer as one in your room. The balcony is much larger than any other hotel I have stayed in. Lovely to sit early morning and watch the gardners at work.a very relaxed and peaceful place to stay.
Afternoon tea in the old winter is a must , the atmosphere is unbelievable. You expect Howard Carter to Pull up a chair to join you!!! You need to be smartly dressed for afternoon tea. Then the 1886 for a evening meal is another must again smart dress, men need a tie and jacket . Don't worry if you have forgotten to pack one as the staff have got some to lend you. ( said they think of everything ) Take a pre dinner drink in the bar prior to dinner just soak up the athmosphere. All of this is a experience that you will never forget.
Well first the hotel is in a brilliant location as you overlook the Nile & are about 5 mins away from Luxor temple. If you did have any problems during your stay then see customer services they will do anything to help you. The only problem we have ever had was on our last vist , the room we booked was not available so Mr Christian Rue the manager and Mr Mohamed Gouda then came to see us and upgraded us to the old winter palace , not only that but gave us a choice of rooms.
Yes you will get hazzle on stepping out of the hotel , taxi or Kayleigh !! Please remember this is now people make a living just try & enjoy the banter ! Make sure you don't over pay as well. Remember to fix a price for the whole of your party. Now as for tips they will say a little for my horse etc , I tend to give a little however I always take a apple at breakfast to give to the horse. Accept that this is their way of life and just enjoy it. I will always tip just remember don't earn much so a £1 or £2 is ok it does not have to be a lot. I have seen many changes over the years in Luxor and yes some are good but also some not so good. Gone are the road side cafe's and amons being one of them . Now re located in the shopping mall. still the same staff and lovely food but it's missing that bit of sitting by the side of the road and watching the world go by. As everywhere their is a KFC or MD, but there are some really good places to eat - 7 days/ 7ways English an Egyptian, jewel of the Nile fantastic, snobs, amons and the lantern to name a few lovely food and not expensive . Buy your duty free when you get off the flight, go throught passport control, then pick up your bags then go through .The duty free shop is on the left just by the main doors as you go out. A taxi to Luxor from the airport should cost you about £4 English for two people always I give a little more.
My best tips are - (1) even if this is your vist vist to Luxor pretend that you have been many times before you will get less hazzle then ! (2) don't buy a news paper from the street you may be given a old one (3) . When you buy water & soft drinks from a shop don't pay over the odds.(4)The best exchange rate I have always found to be in Luxor so only change a small amount prior to your holiday.(5)Treat people as you would like to be treated.(6)Be friendly with the locals and you will have a fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Book the pavilion wing as the winter palace is much more expensive and you share the same amenities...
