My Wife and I visited Egypt for 3 weeks in late February and early March. We used Ahmed as our guide after contacting him via email and discussing what we wanted to see, he was very helpful and patient with our many questions. We had him for 6 days during our time in Aswan and Luxor and as well he also arranged 2 day trips during my stay in Cairo with another guide and at a better rate than I could find on my own. Though typically he does everything himself, if you are far from his home area like say in Cairo or Hurghada like us, you can tell him what you want and he will arrange and have a good guide meet you at your hotel or even book you hotels or transfers. He was telling me he would have gave a better price than I paid for my hotel so I was wishing I’d asked him about that before I booked too.
Ahmed took us for a trip to Abu Simbel with a private car, a car to Luxor from Aswan with stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu, and day trips in Luxor to Karnac, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings, Medinet Habu (which is a must by the way) and a few other things over a few separate days. Each day he met us at our hotel lobby on time with a driver. One thing I will say is he goes beyond other guides I’ve had, he will try to make sure you have anything you need be it water or food or whatever. And he actually dropped by to meet us and discuss details of our trips when we first got to Aswan which was nice to settle our unanswered questions and worries. He even took us to a local restaurant as he wanted to give us the REAL Egyptian experience which we loved. As a guide his knowledge is very good, again the best I have had from any guide. He is good at balancing his time with you as a guide but giving you enough free time on your own to explore and take pictures as well. His prices were also good, we paid less for private well guided private tours than many others were paying for those big awkward rushed group tours (and he only took us where WE wanted to go..). I was very happy I had contacted Ahmed.
Overall I will say it is a good idea to have a guide for many things in Egypt and this is coming from someone who does everything on their own normally in most of my travels. Egypt can be difficult with the language barrier and poor street signs, along with the hassle you get when not with a guide (when with Ahmed nobody bothered us). But it is such an amazing country to see if well planned. I couldn’t be more happy with his service and my wife fully agrees. We highly recommend Ahmed to anyone heading to Egypt whether you are travelling to his home area of Luxor or even other areas or even services such as hotel and transfers. Best way to contact him is his email (ahmed4fathalla@ hotmail.com), as I actually have talked to him a couple times since returning just to say hi and whatnot.
