I went to Luxor with my family earlier this month (March)... We contacted Ehab (Ayman Boghdady, owner) at Sawa tours 2 days before the trip and booked couple of tours. Ehab was excellent in responding to emails promptly.
Its a shame that there seems to be a red writing box at the top because, without a doubt, Ehab made sure our holiday was amazing.
After the Mubarak palaver, you can sense the financial strain that the Egyptians are going through. Although we had read and familiarised ourselves with the tipping customs and the constant hassle by the local population, nothing prepared us like turning up there and finding that a bottle of water costs £1...
Our faith was soon restored when we met Ehab, the owner of Sawa tours at our hotel.
He was very punctual, straight forward about what we can expect... and such a nice man. We genuinely felt that he really did want to make sure that our holiday went without a glitch.
We signed up for the day trip in Luxor, day trip in Aswan and Abusimbel. We had amazing guides who made history come alive.
There are some comments on this site about not understanding their accents... I have to say that if you are not used to foreign English accents and the speed of speaking, you might find it difficult to understand the guides. We've gone from the cosmopolitan society of London to Egypt so we had no problems.
Our group consisted of my mum, my brother (young man) and my self ( young woman), so we were concerned for our safety when the itinerary read that we'd be taking the train to Aswan alone... Although we didn't express our concern, Ehab treated us like his own family and provided an air conditioned mini van with a personal driver at no extra cost.
All three tours were fantastic.... and very thorough.... We had adequate time to enjoy each site. The guides were very punctual and friendly.
Only thing I would advice is that one of the guide took us to an alabaster shop, a marble craft shop (Ehab wasnt aware of this but we told him and he apologised for it and ensured that measures were taken to ensure that doesnt happen again)... the salesmen were very pushy... although we held our own and managed to get few key pieces for a reasonable price... it was an unnecessary purchase....
Ehab also took care of our extra requirements such as driving us to Luxor museum from our hotel and back for free...going out of his way to find an adaptor.. fixing a horse ride at a very reasonable price (45 LE for 3 of us)... he even offered to collect us and drop us off to the airport for free but I had already booked a cab.
As far as our meals were concerned, couple of days lunches were included as part of the tour but on the other days, Ehab took us to local restaurants where the prices were very reasonable and food was authentic egyptian.
Other amazing plus point was Ehab taking us to a wholesale souvenir shop where I was able to get something for all of my friends for next to nothing.
We got scammed by a Bazaar salesman and paid £6 for 100g of peppermint (quite aggressive salesman) and felt annoyed about that.... we happened to mention it to our driver (who we didn't realise was Ehab's brother).. he told his brother and just so our trip wont end on a sour note, they got us a gift basket with various herbs and spices! That was such a nice touch... because aside from these guys, almost all the Egyptian people we came across looked at us like walking ATMs....
I would thoroughly recommend Sawa tours..... Ehab is also the Luxor representative for Ramses tours as well... so ranking 1st at the moment.... I have to say that even if I had a family member in Egypt, I dont think I'd be treated as well as how we were treated by Sawa tours... thank u guys...
On an additional note, we went straight after the trouble in Cairo but didn't feel any aftermath.
