Ramsess Hotel is brilliantly located on the West Bank just a few minutes walk from the ferry. All rooms are painted in a different colour, mine being the sunny, yellow room which had two balconies. There is a great outdoors area on the top floor where breakfast is served. There is also a lovely large patio as you walk up the steps to the hotel. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, warm and hospitable. They go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one. It is a basic hotel but it has all the mod cons such as air-con, fridge, tv. Everything works and it's clean. On our first evening we had dinner at the hotel. It was the most delicious home cooked meal and I would recommend eating here at least once. The West Bank is much quieter and less poluted than the East Bank so it's a much nicer area to stay in. I will definitely come back to Ramsess when I next visit Luxor.

after being kept up all night on the noisy East bank we stumbled across Ramsess hotel and ended up staying 8 nights there. the staff and cleaners (the lovely Ali!) are very pleasant and kept our room tidy and spotlessly clean. the hot water takes a while to kick in when you first arrive, but once it's on it hot and the pressure is not bad. Beds are comfy and views of the Nile (we were on the top floor - red room 304 and it's definitely the best) are spectacular.
We paid just 160EGP for the twin room (about £16) and it was worth every penny. Breakfast is fruit juice, coffee/tea, bread, honey, omelette and yoghurt (and falafel..)
DEFINITELY stay here, away from the hassle and constant noise of East bank (though just 10p on the ferry to get across to it in the day) it was a joy to stay here and we didn't want to leave!!

I spent six nights in this small family-run hotel, in great peace and quiet with beautiful bird-song. My room had two balcomies and wonderful views over the Nile and a nearby river, and good remote-controlled air-conditioning. The staff were friendly and welcoming and went to great trouble to make me very comfortable - thank you Nasser! A nice simple breakfast is included in the room price, which you can eat in the garden, or up in the roof-terrace restaurant. Getting the local ferry over to the East Bank is easy and a pleasure - only a five minute walk from the Ramsess - and you can hire taxis to take you wherever you want from either the West Bank or the East. And for me, one of the best things was the total colour experience of the room - painted all one strong colour, walls, door and ceiling. I loved my warm orange room, and glimpsed a beautiful turquoise room, a blue and a red-painted room. So remember to ask if your favourite colour is available for a colour-therapy treat!
