I stayed with two friends in two of Linda's three apartments that make up Villa Lostris. She and her husband and friends were always very welcoming and charming. It felt like a luxory hotel, with only a few rooms.


We stayed for one night in the 2nd floor apartment, which has 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 1 big living room with a bed. Then we moved downstairs to the 1st floor, due to other guests arriving. It was basically the same but with 2 bathrooms (we thought it was better, in case any of us got food poisoning, but luckily that didnt happen!)

The house was great, a fantastic value for money , near town in a fun area with local people and stores. A great fruit shop only a few minutes walk away, and a back entrance to the sheraton behind the house so that you could walk into Luxor centre along the Nile.

We spent our time in town, at temples, on the always sunny roof terrace, and in the cool apartment.

Ps. About getting around town:
A neighbour, Said, had a taxi company which was helpful for getting around, at a fixed price without lots of hassling. We felt they also drove more safely than many other cars on the roads. Unfortunately even these drivers were sometimes unpleasant for three unaccompanied women, asking to marry us and to get kisses, and driving under influence of a range of compounds (alcohol, hash, opium from what he said). Also, beware of any shops any car or carriage drivers or guides take you to, they ask for 50% commission from store owners so you will probably pay at least double the price you should. We got tricked at a spice store we were taken to by a carriage driver, buying hibiscus tea for about 60 egyptian when it should have been 7, and at an alabaster factory after the Valley of the Kings (with Said and a friend guide of his) were we payed 3x-10x the price for scarab beetles and alabaster things. Oh well, we all survived and it was good supporting a country in the arab spring.

With many thanks once again for a most enjoyable stay. Just what was needed! Lovely to slow down the pace of life and watch the world go by from the rooftop, and a great place to be as the sun goes down and the call to prayer begins...perfect.

Not long back from a brilliant stay at Villa Lostris in Luxor. We rented two Villas, on the first and third floors, both were very spacious, comfortable, cleaned thoroughly throughout our stay, equipped with everything you could possibly need, just like home from home.

The views from the various balconies and roof terrace were brilliant, whether it was taking in the sights of the Valley of the Kings in the distance or local farm life in the village below.

Said, neighbour and local taxi driver, ensured our stay and getting out and around all the sights we wanted to see was hassle free, he even kindly acquired a roof rack and drove us through to Hurghada for the second part of our holiday, which we gratefully appreciated.

We would highly recommend a trip down the Nile in Eid’s Felucca, one of the most memorable trips of our holiday, we wish we had done it much sooner so we could have gone out and enjoyed it again.

We would recommend staying at Villa Lostris over any of the hotels, it’s an opportunity to experience a real taste of living in Egypt, whilst being within walking distance of the Corniche and town centre.

Simply a perfect holiday…. This was or first time to Luxor but having visited Cairo a few years ago we couldn’t wait to see the treasures, temples and tombs of this intoxicating land. Easter was the perfect time, pleasantly warm and getting hotter as the week progressed. Our accommodation, Villa Lostis, could not have been better. Situated just outside of the town centre but within easy walking distance. The owners Linda and Eid were brilliant, making our stay even better. Linda had stocked-up the fridge with essentials (including local beer). Our apartment was spacious, clean, well equipped with en-suite and a very comfortable bed. We were sharing with my sister and husband; they had their own bathroom too, which gave us all the necessary privacy… fully equipped kitchen, a home from home. Balconies providing views and a wonderful roof terrace, perfect for watching the sunset and absorbing the truly biblical scene. Try a takeaway from ‘Snobs’ eaten on the roof terrace; embrace the local food and ambiance of the real Luxor. A swimming pool provided an early morning dip and a relaxing afternoon swim.
Getting around, either to the west bank or being collected from town was easy… Said the taxi driver was invaluable, give him a ring and he would be there within minuets, nothing was too much trouble, (he also collected us from and to the airport). Long will we remember the felucca sail down the Nile the sightings of wild birds… of local fishermen…. The sounds of the call to prayer and the sights, the sights… temples and tombs everywhere. A truly memorable experience.
