“Fantastic hotel right in Aswan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Fantastic hotel right in Aswan, well priced and staff very helpful in arranging things. Stay was only for a couple of nights prior to leaving for a trip to Abu Simbel and then a cruise down the Nile. Only downside was our air conditioner in the room sounded like a jet engine, given the heat we decided it was better to put with it.

We stayed in Aswan for just one night in early October of this year prior to leaving on a cruise down the Nile. We selected this hotel due to the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We booked a standard double room, when we arrived they advised that they had saved us the presidential suite (not sure why, but we weren't charged for it, so it was great). The room was absolutely fantastic, spotless, and a great location in Aswan.

The final kicker on what made this hotel so fantastic, is in the morning as we were waiting for our pickup in the lobby, the manager (quite possibly the owner, not sure) called the hotel and asked to talk to us. She just wanted to know how our stay was and to enjoy the rest of our trip.

The hotel was a somewhat pricier option for us as we are budget travellers in Aswan ($100/night), but after staying there and receiving such wonderful service, it was a decision I will never regret.

We visited Egypt with family few weeks ago, and this was our first visit to the country. The hotel staff was very courteous. Facilities are as excellent.

They arranged our trip to Abu Simbel and made sure we were comfortable.

We had booked this hotel for 2 nights and were suppose to arrive on 25 July at 11am,then Egyptair cancelled all the flights from 8 am to 10pm.but Hanan was very gracious and when we arrived at the airport at 12am,the car and the driver was waiting for us and whisked us away to the hotel,on our way to the hotel she called and spoke to us making sure we were fine.we were traveling with our 2 kids. As soon as we arrived they was Mohmad waiting outside took our bags and took us straight to our room to rest as it was very late and we were going to Abu Simble the next morning at 3 am( which is a must ,please don't miss this temples) without the hassle of checking etc.
Next morning they woke us up and had tea and coffee ready for us to take before our trip.the breakfast box was very good as my kids also said that as we could compare with other on the trip from other hotels.
We got an upgraded room overlooking the Nile.except it was soooo hot we were also so jet lagged so slept the afternoon away in this beautiful hotel it's more a 7 star hotel.
Our air condition for the other room was not working they gave us another room so we were comfortable. They even got me a vegetarian meal as we couldn't get one late night.
I highly recommend them. They service is exceptional, very caring and they have one motto and that is to make us comfortable. All they staff were very good.do go to this hotel and feel safe and well look after.

Room Tip: Take a Nile facing room ,it's worth it.

We needed a hotel in which to spend the day as we were taking the night train to Cairo. We were thrilled to find Philae, and super bummed that we hadn't decided to stay here for our three days in Aswan. I'm still kicking myself for not going with our first instinct to listen to the tripadvisor reviews (instead we booked on Agoda).

We were only here for maybe 6-7 hours, but loved every minute. Gorgeous rooms, great location, view of the Nile. Exceptionally friendly staff.

Hoping we'll make it back to Aswan soon so that we can stay here :)

This is not a five star hotel, it is a six or seven star hotel. The Philae Hotel is located along the Corniche in Aswan, just a five minute taxi ride from the train station, and directly across the road from many of the cruise ships that go up/down the Nile. It is between some shops and has a ground floor lobby, with dining room on the next floor, and rooms on floors above that.

Hanan, the owner, is the penultimate host. She is the vision for this hotel. The renovations she has done and the staff she has picked and trained show her attention to detail and her never-ending focus on customer service. The lobby, dining, and renovated floors are just amazing; so welcoming and modern and sparkly clean. This hotel would be a gem in any country, but for it to be in the small town of Aswan makes it the most magical place.

After two days in Cairo, we called and made reservations while on the overnight train. The lady (who turned out to be Hanan) took my information and said a taxi would be waiting for us. We didn't have to walk two steps from our train car without running into Muhammad, who was standing there with our name written on a sign. He took our bags and guided us through the lobby and across the street to his car. A quick drive down the Corniche along the Nile and we were at the hotel.

Muhammad carried our bags inside, and the rest of the staff greeted us and had everything ready for us. Hanan emerged from the back with two glasses of lemon water. The lemons came from her mother's garden, what a treat. Hanan was the most gracious host and made us feel immediately at ease. We were escorted to our room, the nicest room during our two week stay in Egypt. Immaculately clean, beautiful paint and furnishings, and wonderful bed with new sheets, a refrigerator stocked with drinks, a large bathroom with a glorious tub/shower, and a balcony overlooking the Nile. We were transformed from hot weary travelers to relaxed and energized guests in a matter of minutes.

I met with Hanan again and easily arranged our trips for the three days of our visit. Yes, every hotel in Egypt wants to setup tours for you, but Hanan listened and understood how we wanted to see the area. She coordinated every aspect of the travel, and her drivers and suggestions were without fault. Her staff called every evening to setup a wake-up call for the next morning, knowing when we needed to get up for the travel we had planned. We are independent travelers, but really appreciated the knowledge Hanan had about the area and what we could accomplish during our time. Her suggestions were spot on, as were her recommendations for shopping and restaurants around her hotel.

Breakfasts were included, and on the morning we had to be up at 4am for our trip to Abu Simbel, we were called and told our transportation would be arriving shortly, and they had coffee/tea waiting for us in the lobby. Hanan arranged for large boxed breakfasts to eat on our trip. The other breakfast was in the lovely dining room, with windows open to the Nile. When we returned from our first morning activities, Hanan took our lunch request and told us to shower and come down to the nice quiet lobby. We were greeted with a lovely koshary lunch, and enjoyed it while watching the activity along the Corniche.

We stored our bags on our last day, and toured the souks. We returned and asked for a taxi to the train station. Hanan was going to her mother's house, and she loaded us in her van and drove us to the train station. What a great way to end our stay. We were truly sad to leave Aswan and the Philae Hotel.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the Nile, the street is busy but not that noisy. Aswan is quiet compared to Cairo.
