We stayed at Movenpick during the first week of January in a superior room (302). The room has 2 balconies one overlooking the east bank of the nile and the other with a side view of the same bank. The room was very clean, the staff are hospitable and you can't beat the view. The location is just superb!

With a 5 minute free ferry you can get to the corniche and from there it is a 5 minute walk to the Souk and El Masry restaurant. El Dokka restaurant is about 15 minutes walk. From the corniche you can take a felucca or motorboat to the botanical garden island (cheaper than if you take from the dock at the hotel).

Gharb Seheil is 20 minutes by taxi (30LE) it is a more authentic Nubian village with shops and a boutique hotel called Anakato which has a serene view and a cafeteria with cheap drinks (2 juices and 2 teas for 25LE) but take the driver's number so that he picks you up after.

If you take a room on the east bank, the warm sunrise sun will wake you up, otherwise on the otherside you can watch the sunset.

Stayed three nights. Superior room with view of the Botanic Gardens. Room was clean and well appointed, included tea & coffee making facilities (very welcome) Kingsize bed was comfortable and the linen new and in good repair. Housekeeping reset the room daily.

Room had been renovated since some of the earlier reviews and building work was occurring on the new site. Building work was not intrusive to our room.

Due to tourism drought, the facility was very quiet with low occupancy. This affected some of the amenities on offer, ie there was no buffet evening meals, and the menu was limited. Bar areas and some lounges weren't open, and the shops in the mall only opened for one of the evening we were there.

Staff were friendly and attentive. We had no issues with check in or check out. Front desk was helpful with small extras and questions.
The ATM in the lobby was functional, saving us a trip to the bank on the Aswan corniche.

Room service was prompt and the food good. Portions are large. The packed lunch we ordered for the last day was very large and contained several full sized, filled, bread rolls. If it had a 2nd bottle of water in it, it would have been plenty for two. Everything in it was freshly made and well wrapped.
Breakfast was buffet style and comprehensive. It was included in our package.

Coldest weather in may years meant eating at the top of the tower was VERY cold. (this was the only option on the first night) next two night, downstairs was open and was heated.
Afternoon Service at the pool side for food and drinks was very good and the staff very friendly & efficient (good fresh lemon drinks, cold bottled water, and excellent pizza. (very large portion size.. we should have shared one pizza)
We used the massage service. We were very satisfied with the skill and efficiency of the two massage providers. A late booking wasn't a hassle and the service was polite and gender appropriate.

Opportunities for improvement:
Signage on the Aswan Corniche was poor. Our transfer driver missed the dock location first try as it is not clearly signed for the Moevenpick.

Touts at the dock tried to fool us into taking their boat and not the Hotel one. Hotel staff need to be in clearly identifiable clothing so you know who you are talking to, especially on the Aswan side.

A non smoking room does not mean it is free of residual smoke smell and a heavy dose of air freshener doesn't really help. We realise Egypt is still a 'smoking' country and staff probably can't smell it, but to non smokers it is noticeable. Hopefully, truly smoke free rooms will be located in the new build?

The room fire detector has a constantly flashing green led. Common enough, but at night, with the blackout curtains closed, this one can actually light up your white bedding in a green glow! If you are a light sensitive sleeper it takes getting used to (or open the curtains a bit to dilute it..)

Front desk and lift signs need to be current to the available amenities. We asked were dinner was at check in and were told the Orangery, only to find at dinner time only the tower was open (which is the fine dining room, at the top floor, different building/elevators).

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Botanic Gardens have nice peaceful aspects. Closer to the main building avoids vi...

Obviously recently renovated, this hotel is simply excellent. The service at the front desk was sincere and helpful. The rooms were well appointed and charmingly decorated with Nubian motifs as well as spotlessly clean with a lovely view over the gardens and the city. The gardens were lovely. The pool was huge! Breakfast was sumptuous; dinner in the tower was tasty with first class service. The balcony afforded a great place to hang our much needed laundry (which given the absence of humidity seemed to dry within minutes!) - bring your own string, though. My only regret was that we were there for only two nights prior to going on our cruise ship! This place is classy, sumptuous but without the usual airs that sometimes accompany first class hotels.

My sister and I stayed at this hotel back in March and it was fantastic. The location is great - our view from the room was phenomenal. We could see feluccas floating down the Nile as the sun began to set. We visited the bar upstairs and had coffee while the sun set and ate dinner at the buffet (we weren't very hungry so we got the salad and soup option - delicious).

Our room was clean and our bathroom was very spacious - I would definitely stay here again!
