The most OMG of this temple is the hieroglyphs that located at a top left beam, 3rd or 4th one, just after you enter the first main hallway (the guards can point out to you) - the carvings of HELICOPTER, SUBMARINE, SPACESHIP. This was also featured on the Ancient Aliens of History Channel. Some people argue that it's illusion of old and new carvings overlapping. But, the shapes are sharp, accurate and detail, just see for yourself!
The temple itself is ex-ordinary. Been refereed as the Great temple of Abydos, Seti I and Osiris (same structure) , well preserved, where the characteristic of all other temples in Egypt come together, with it's significance of 7 chapels dedicated to worshiping different deities and a list of kings names through out several dynasties. The back is the temple of Osiris that had been believed as a portal to the underworld. Inside the temple you're allowed to take picture! (no flash) And behind the temple is a structure in the water with the carving of Flower of Life.
An easy way of visiting this temple is taking a morning train (1st/2nd class) from Luxor to Al Balyana then take a taxi. You can reach there before noon and have a whole afternoon to visit, then back to Luxor or Cairo (no class, every 1-2 hours check with train station upon arrival). A (friendly) police escort may stop you at the entrance of Abydos ask your purpose of the trip, etc, and may ride back with you to the train station afterwards, but just for your safety, nothing difficult.
(The closing time was 5pm according to the ticket office, beware of the guards that charge you extra money (tip) to stay even its half an hour before official closing time when there is no other tourist left)
