Since my first visit to the Fairmont in 2010 I had the opportunity to return on several occasions most recently for a 4 day stay in September.
My overall impression was still excellent. Very luxurious hotel with excellent service. if anything the lower occupancy rate in 2011 in the aftermath of the revolution seems to have been the hotel more attentive to its guests.
I was also able to use a Fairmont President's Club coupon to get a free upgrade to a bigger room which was nice. I got a Nile view room which is great (you can even enjoy the views from your shower/bath). The partial Nile view rooms are OK if you have no choice but I would steer clear of anything else (the view at the back is dreadful).
Their Spa is now ready and offers excellent amenities for guests. The Gym/Steam room/Rain showers are free to use for all guests as is the Spa lounge -- a great place to relax with a herbal tea.
My only peeve -- the hotel now only runs one restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The excellent Vietnamese (Saigon) has downed its shutters. So if you are planning on staying for more than a night or two prepare to return to the same restaurant repeatedly/
