“Still Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

Since my first visit to the Fairmont in 2010 I had the opportunity to return on several occasions most recently for a 4 day stay in September.

My overall impression was still excellent. Very luxurious hotel with excellent service. if anything the lower occupancy rate in 2011 in the aftermath of the revolution seems to have been the hotel more attentive to its guests.

I was also able to use a Fairmont President's Club coupon to get a free upgrade to a bigger room which was nice. I got a Nile view room which is great (you can even enjoy the views from your shower/bath). The partial Nile view rooms are OK if you have no choice but I would steer clear of anything else (the view at the back is dreadful).

Their Spa is now ready and offers excellent amenities for guests. The Gym/Steam room/Rain showers are free to use for all guests as is the Spa lounge -- a great place to relax with a herbal tea.

My only peeve -- the hotel now only runs one restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The excellent Vietnamese (Saigon) has downed its shutters. So if you are planning on staying for more than a night or two prepare to return to the same restaurant repeatedly/

Room Tip: Full Nile view room or Partial Nile view room are fine but no other!

My husband and I decided to do a pit stop in Cairo after a trip we did to Southeast Asia. We were a bit hesitant (in general) in going to Cairo due to the instability of the government. We closely monitored the news and decided to take the chance. Boy....we were so glad we did! My husband and I are VERY picky when it comes to hotels we stay in. We are all about location and service. All the reviews we read on Trip Advisor spoke highly of the Fairmont Nile City so we decided to stay here. This hotel was definitely one of our best accommodations during our entire vacation. First and foremost, the staff was amazing. We did get the airport pickup service and it was perfect. Customs went smooth and the driver that took us to the hotel was extremely nice - even gave us a mini tour of the different places we drove in front of. Since we only stayed there 2 nights, we really wanted to take advantage of doing as much as possible. We did book a 1-day tour through the hotel to see the Pyramids and Citadel. Our guide, Mahmoud, was extremely professional and knowledgeable. You can tell he has a passion for what he does so we truly enjoyed every minute of our time with him. We really wanted to take home a handmade Egyptian rug and he went out of his way to find a place that sells them. He did all of the negotiating for us which made things so much easier! We didn't know what to expect from the Egyptian culture and people - and our experience was unforgettable. I have to say that the staff truly made us feel 'at home' and really made our stay pleasant. Upon our arrival to the hotel, we were upgraded to a gorgeous room that had a balcony facing the Nile River. The rooms are extremely spacious with nice furnishings and very large bathrooms. Hotel guests are allowed to smoke in the hallways, but the smoke does not get into your room so its not anything to worry about. We did eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel and the restaurants were excellent. The waiters are always willing to get you anything you need and the quality of the food was over our expectations. The hotel was going through a bit of renovations when we were there and there was one restaurant which was closed. That didn't bother us as the staff kept everything very clean. We regret not staying longer. We highly recommend for any visitors to Cairo to stay at the Fairmont! I wish we can go back tomorrow!

Room Tip: Ask for a Nile River view - its worth the few extra dollars.

Stayed in signature room. room was big, bathroom larger than bedroom! nice design but not 100% practacle for both room and bathroom. Service is top top notch no questions there, ive stayed in Hyatt, all Hilton hotels, Conrad, Four Seasons, this is by far best service, best people.

PROS: large room, large bathroom, great service, great food, views are nice (if you know cairo then you know the hotels location is right before one of the poorest areas) over looks the last tip of Zamalek. Fairmont Gold lounge private checkin, lounge is beautiful, great staff. Hotel next to small mall.

CONS: there isnt any cons per say but a few things to point out. Signature room has no seating area but bed and terrace (desk read below). practicality of room is in question like there is a big beautiful desk area but no electricity for your laptop etc. bathroom is sooo big yet only one sink and the toilet area has been placed in a way thats just. . . .stupid. shower is huge no tub, and it would have been amazing to place a tv screen in such a huge bathroom. terrace seats are not standard, they're a cross between a sun bed and a chair.

Overall this hotel is great, service is exceptional, food is amazing (bit overpriced for egypt standards), hotel areas are well kept. Def recommend this hotel, although i would NOT recomend paying extra for signature room as you really dont get anything special.

The hotel was excellent, very modern and new. The pool at the top floor with the views and sky bar was incredible. The mall right beside it has very few shops and restaurants, it was a bit sad really, but I guess it was because there was very little tourism on account of the revolution. Hotel staff are very nice and friendly, always willing to help. The hotel has three restaurants, one American, the other Japanese, and the one in the sky bar that offers Egyptian food, the best of all if you want to taste local food. There was a curefew when we went so we had to stay at the hotel after 9 pm but it was so pleasant that it didn't disturb us at all, also there's a magnificent spa&gym&wellness center.

One our second day there we asked at reception which restaurant offered egyptian food, he told us they would fix something for us in the American one and the man even took us there and spoke to the waiter there. once we were seated and with our drinks, the waiter told us there was no Egyptian food. We were annoyed at that because we had specifically asked for this, he said yes, and once we had our beverages and all he said no. So we went back to the first man in the reception and told him and he was annoyed too and arranged for us in the sky bar with the same beverages brought up, so in the end they ammended so we can't really complain. Anyway, the sky bar is absolutely great and has delicious Egyptian food.

The room was big a modern, views of the Nile and the city, with many of the buildings burnt and black from the revolution (by the way, when we were there we were prefectly safe, no problems at all, they care for tourists, the hotel is not far away form famous Tahrir square) they give you 3 bottles of water per day (free) and also there's tea and coffee available in the room. Our room had a curious thing: besides the huge bed, where we thought was a wardrobe, there wasn't, when you slid open the doors, there was a perfect view of the bathroom (through a glass)!!!

Nice hotel with great location. Went there in 2010 and was very impressed. Did not like the fact that we asked for a room in the higher floor, but was given a room with bad view in the low floor. Had to call the front desk and complain and was given a better room. Staff was ok, could have been little more friendly. Rooms were very clean and nice!

Staff was amazing and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. Spa the best of Cairo. The Top Roof Pool and Bar has an amazing view over the City.
As in many hotels of Cairo, you always need a cab to move, even to Zamalek. There isn´t anything in walkung distance!

All the staff was wonderful. They made me feel at home. Very particularly, my tour of Cairo organized by the hotel was amazing. My guide, Mary Shaker Megalli, is a fabulous professional. She is very knowledgable, patient, detail oriented and certainly knows the culture inside out. Her knowledge not only of the Egyptian culture but of contemporary issues made me much better understand this bautiful country and its people. Mostly because of her I recommend the Fairmont Cairo, Nile City hotel. I will make sure to highlight this hotel to business acquaintances and friends and definitely recommend Mary for a must-have tour guide if anyone ones to understand Egypt. Thank you Mary! This is a wonderful country.

Room Tip: Call in advance.
