I've stayed in this small hotel twice now (about 10 days each time) and really like it. I've stayed in a number of 5 star hotels in Cairo, most of which are fine, but in the end I prefer Longchamps to all of them. It is a small hotel occupying the top few stories of an old traditional apartment building in the quiet (relatively) Zamalek section of Cairo. The owner, Madame Hebba Bakri, and her staff have always been extremely professional and courteous. She instructs her staff not to ask for tips (which can be left in a lump sum at the end of your stay). This alone almost makes it worth staying there. The rooms that I have stayed in were freshly renovated, extremely clean and bright, and quiet. Breakfast is a fantastic mix of western and Arab fare. Dinner a la carte is available as well though I never tried it. There are two very pleasant shared verandas where one can sit and have a beer or snack.
My only criticism, which I shared with the owner, is that the internet connection is quite slow. She has indicated that she will work on this.
