Lovely lovely excursion in the heart of Old Cairo. I would pair this excursion with Old Islamic Cairo for a complete day trip. I live in Cairo (America teacher) and hadn't been out to this area. It's an easy stroll of a few hours. Take your time to go into the museum and explore the many churches, and surprisingly to me, the Jewish synagogue. The hawkers are there and politely say "la shokrun" if you don't plan to make a purchase...say it several times. However, with tourism down in Egypt, it's getting harder for the vendors to make a living. There is some stunning artwork to see: scrolled and wood paneled ceilings, the Nag Hammadi texts in the Coptic Museum, textiles, mosaics and just lovely scrolled metal work.
