The most interesting part of the mosque was the Minaret. Since Ibn Tulun was originally from Baghdad you can see the influence of his origin in the minaret, which has stairs from the outside,

“an oasis of serenity”

the mosque is in one of the most dilapidated and noisy parts of old Cairo. once you delve in, you are transferred to a completely different atmosphere, one of total serenity and delightful spirituality.
