We have recently returned home from a 10 day holiday to Egypt, of which we spent 5 nights in Cairo at the Concorde Hotel. It's very basic, rooms are maintained well but its very shabby. Staff can either be very friendly or just completely unwilling to help but we had no real reason to spend any time at the hotel anyway.
Having read reviews on here before our holiday we had made it our mission to seek out the guys at Rosetta Perfumes Palace just a couple of doors down having heard great things. Mohammed found us on day 1 at 6am on the street (having been denied early check in despite the hotel being empty) and immediately took us under his wing. We spent a lot of time with his 2 brothers Emad and Hamdy and can't say enough about just how amazing these guys were to us. They arranged very well priced tours for us, offered unlimited free advice and most of all showed us endless amounts of hospitality. They bought us dinner everyday and we learnt so much from them. They have become lifelong friends and we cannot thank them enough for making our trip so special. Whether you need someone to plan a whole trip for you or just some advice on things to do these are the guys to speak to. I have never felt so looked after in my whole life!
Also note that Cairo is very safe now and we had no problems when exploring this fascinating city.
