This hotel and friendliest staff ensured that we had the perfect first time experience of Egypt. Although we had tried to prepare ourselves with as many pre-bookings as possible before we reached Egypt, the staff, in particular Samir Fayek, helped us when we had problems with train bookings. As a result we had a bonus day in Cairo and a comfortable night train journey to Luxor. Our trust in Samir meant we had a true experience of Egyptian life and not just a walk with the tourists.
On a limited budget, Samir showed us places tourists would not usually go, tried foods we didn't know existed, and had evening entertainment that will remain in our memories forever.
Due to travelling to Luxor in the middle of our stay, it meant we got to stay in two different rooms. One a twin and one a double. The style and furniture in both still reflect the original purpose of the building and therefore create the perfect setting for going back in history when visiting the famous tourist attractions. Both rooms were spacious and clean, with plenty of clothing storage.
This hotel is so well located in the heart of all the attractions for Cairo it makes for a great base to plan your adventures, but with the cozy bar/restaurant and friendly staff, it is too tempting to not even venture out!
All the different Egyptian dishes we tried at the hotel were wonderful but should we have not be adventurous enough, they offered plenty of western-style dishes.
The best bit was on our return to the hotel at the end of the week, all the staff seemed so pleased and happy to see us again (even their taxi driver!) it was like coming home. I can't wait to go back and see everyone again!!

I stayed here 3 times in 2008,..good location for walking around and close to subway station. Worn and haggard,but acceptable.Great staff,good management...always felt safe..breakfast is not the best.

We stayed at Windsor Hotel for 5 nights, in a double room with shower and toilet. Everything was perfect: A nice, charming and old-faishoned hotel that has seen better times, clean, very central located, many good restaurants and tea-houses around. The staff is nice and helpful, they help to organise tours to the pyramids of Gizeh or Sakkara (with the fantastic tourguides Semir and Said) or by buying traintickets to other places. The Windsor Hotel was the perfect place for our first stay in Cairo.

We (3 couples) stayed at the Windsor for three nights and really enjoyed the experience.
We had not made any arrangements for our time in Cairo but after booking us in at reception Samir Fayek set us up with a driver (The very professional Saied from Port Said) and a guide who between them really looked after us and ensured that we were able to fit everything we wanted to see and do into the time available to us.
The hotel itself is like stepping back into colonial times and is full of old time charm.The barrel bar is worth a visit even if your'e not staying in the Windsor.
If you can do without the comforts of 5 star multinational chain s for a few nights the Windsor is a great base to see the real Cairo from.
