Even in its present state of decline (it's no longer a Hilton) the hotel is very nice because of its human dimensions, air of comfort and accessibility. The hotel staff is helpful and professional. The lobby a great place to meet and hang out with people.
Our favorite feature, the lovely outdoor cafe and the walkway to Freedom Square, the Cairo Museum and Talaat Harb no longer exist. The hallways on the upper floor are musty and hot with faded old carpeting. Disregarding a signs of aging (missing threshold in our bathroom, low uncomfortable bath tub) the rooms are nicely kept, but you have to get there first from the dreary hallways... Except for the top-floor restaurant with its excellent breakfast buffet, the other restaurants look abandoned. Better go elsewhere for lunch and dinner.
Yet, we still find the Nile Hotel the most pleasant and accommodating hotel in downtown Cairo, it's easy-going and has the charm of an older era. The pool is clean and large. We heard than a thorough overhaul is planned. If it's done in good taste this hotel could once again be the place to be.
