“Excellent Two-Week Stay in Cairo, Egypt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2012

I had a two-week stay at the JW Marriott Cairo in October 2011. I was very happy to be in the Marriott complex for almost two weeks. The property is located off Ring road near the Cairo airport. Ring road has very unique traffic as this road circles Cairo, and it is heavily populated with cars, motorcycles, cement trucks, and other heavy equipment. While driving on Ring Road is quite crazy to other areas of the world, I didn’t find it to be unsafe on my commute back and forth to The Marriott. However, I would recommend a local driver.

I felt very secure in the property as it is protected 24 hours per day with gate security and building security. The lobby opened up into an enormous area to meet with colleagues and/or friends.
There are several super nice restaurants on the property including Cucina Italian restaurant that I visited regularly. There is a Sushi Bar, Lemongrass Asian cuisine, and JW’s Steakhouse. The View Lounge and Bar is open 24 hours and serves a variety of food and drinks. They also have live entertainment in the evenings. In addition, there are several outside bars and restaurants for your dining pleasure.

The property contains several pools and outside areas. There is a huge swimming pool and a couple other pools with huge waterfalls and architecture. They have a children’s playground, tennis courts, and a soccer field. The property also sits beside Mirage City Golf Course, and I believe you can sign up for tee times at the concierge. Finally, the property has a salon and spa to pamper your needs.

I found my room to be spacious and clean. It had a large bathroom and huge shower. The internet was fast for hotel speeds, and I found my room comfortable. Overall, it was a great stay!

Close to the airport (free shuttle) but far to Cairo center and in the middle of nowhere. So bit trapped if you want to move out. Huge lobby, nice restaurants, large buffets for breakfasts and dinners. Nice indoor and outdoor pools as fitness center. Service is OK but not so great. Decoration is mix of European XIXth century furniture and paintings, simili oriental lamps, Chinese lions... If you love design hotel, forget this one!

Only for short bizness trip and if you have to work in the East of Cairo.

After the security gates and the dogs have passed the opulent JW is actually a very friendly hotel, nice welcome at reception, complete with welcoming soft drink, and attentive lobby staff. The rooms are great -large and comfortable, and the beds have more pillows than I would know what to do with. The restaurants are good and overall ithe costs are very reasonable.
My latest visit was at almost peak tourist season and sadly it seemed as if there was low occupancy. This is a hotel that needs guests and I hope the tourists are not frightened away for too much longer.
Why not 5*'s? Well a bit of refurbishment is definitely required, and the trek through the meeting room detritus to get to Asian restaurant is not a good start to a meal. And smokers in the public areas.....

This hotel was excellent for many reasons, but it is not close to downtown Cairo or many activities. It is more of a resort and a place to relax. The hotel has 7 restaurants, numerous pools a wonderful spa and fitness center and a golf course that we didn't get a chance to check out. The room was wonderful and quite spacious, although we were in suite. Another bonus was the free airport shuttle; after our first time flying into Cairo earlier in the week being overwhelming to find the bus to take you to the other terminal, it was very much appreciated to have a shuttle and driver waiting for you.

Very nice place. Very secure and welcoming. The staff were really shining stars! Having the shuttle bus driver from the hotel meet you at the airport when you land and escort you all the way through customs and baggage pick-up was a real help!! Not many other places will do that!

The resturants were all very good in terms of service and food quality. The gym was excellent and the pool inviting. The hotel was a bit empty due to the current politcal climate, but they still provided live entertainment every night in one or more of the resturants on site. Nice little shopping area on site and adequate automated banking services to exchange money. The shuttle to the City Stars Mall at night was a very nice feature! Rooms were clean and neat. They were a bit outdated and the carpets were clean, but tired in some areas. Would reccomend to anyone!

As a side note, overall I felt safe while in Egypt. We did run into one protest, but nothing came of it. I did go to the Pyramids and did not have any issues, except the number of people trying to get you to buy something since there are no tourists there...Just learn to say no and keep walking. Also, once you get through the gate when you buy your tickets, do not gove them to anyone else. They will claim they work for the goverment and try to give you a "free" tour that requires a hefty tip at the end...

This place has everything: quality restaurants, bars, a golf course, swimming pools, a huge gym etc. The ensuite room was huge and beautifully laid out. The view from my room was over one of the quiet pools out across the desert. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was superb, with a huge bath with jets, and a shower with fantastic pressure. Staff at reception were friendly and helpful. The gym was the equivalent of any gym in a city with dozens of machines and free weights. The hotel is located near to the airport but is not incredibly convenient for much else unfortunately being stuck on the ring road. However, there is a free shuttle to get to a local shopping mall. Wide selection of restaurants, with all the ones we dined at being very good.

was sooooo good to be back in Cairo again !! As I travel often and being loyal customer I always choose JW Marriott hotel in Cairo regularly, we are used to getting quality service here. The attention and level of service that would be difficult to match anywhere else !

This is the right place to stay during a trip to Cairo, whether on business or for leisure. The service is personallised, top notch - I had a feeling we were like a long lost friends, coming back to stay. Everything I'd expect from a 5* hotel - a personallised welcome back, honest friendly chat at reception, great service and a lavishing, indulgent, ostentatious . Our kids loved it! :) They do understand, what customer care is all about. Hope to be back soon, again!

If you haven't been to Egypt and are thinking of going there some day, go now!! It's really safe, even though the news from Tahrir Square are often disturbing. Egypt needs the income tourists generate now more than ever in order to support the country's GDP and transition to democracy. I never felt unsafe during my stay. Of course common sense appies, I did not go to Tahrir Square.

This property is about 15 mins formthe airport and the hotel offers shuttles. You can also arrange all your tours the Pyrimids etc.. with the guest service desk.

Have fun!
