“beautiful old palace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2009

At one time a palace , it is now a charming beautiful historic hotel. overlooking the Nile in the center of Cairo. The staff is warm and welcoming. A wonderful place to begin the adventure of discovering Egypt.

We stayed at the this Hotel for 1 night in September 2009 and were very impressed. Our room had a balcony overlooking the Nile, was very well appointed and was up to a 5 star Hotel (unlike many in Egypt)! We paid extra to go on the executive floor which allows you access to the executive lounge which is well worth it. We didn't need to purchase any other food as snacks, drinks, light tea and breakfast are all part of the package in the executive lounge! They also allowed us to check in early. Location is good if you want to go to the Cairo musuem. We didn't use the other facilities although the pool looked nice and we noticed there was a rooftop cinema! I would highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed in this beautiful Hotel with our two adult children in another room & found everything about the Hotel of a very high standard, lovely & clean, especially when surrounded by the dust & dirt of Cairo. The service was excellent as were the meals in the different restaurants. Both adult children work in the Hotel industry, one in top hotels in Dubai & they both agree, this Hotel is first class.

Nice hotel. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Has a 24 hour bank as well as ATM. Easy to get cash or exchange money. Some small shops: Jewelery, book store (You can get postcards & stamps) tour office, clothing, camera shop..etc.
The hotel is on an island in the middle of the Nile. walking distance to street under the bridge where you can get drinks, snacks, fruits..etc.

Cairo Marriott Hotel is located in the Zamalek area in the heart of Cairo. It is a former palace converted to a hotel and has some wonderful public rooms with vaulted mahogany ceilings and marble staircases. It was very secure - vehicles were checked at the entrace to the parking area by guards and a sniffer dog and all packages were scanned when entering the hotel. We were visiting during Ramadan so the hotel was not full and staff were very attentive to tourists.

With nine restaurants one had a variety of meal choices. Our favorite was the Tuscany - served great Italian food and had a very engaging waiter - Omar - who just made you want to return again. Breakfast was included in our room and was offered buffet style with a wide range of foods for one to choose - both European and North American.

In addition to a large pool and spa area, the hotel has a shopping arcade where one can shop for Egyptian souvenirs and handicrafts. I was surprized to see people bartering with staff on the prices in the stores. There is also a bank on site - which made it very easy to get Egyptian money, particulary in smaller denominations.
The hotel has two towers - our room was located in the Zamalek Tower (north tower) and our room faced the Nile. Our requested non-smoking room was odor free. The room was very comfortable, contained two queen size beds, desk, two chairs, dresser and very generous bathroom and closet space. The balcony faced the Nile and we were able to watch the boats cruising the Nile. While the traffic noise could be daunting at certain hours - once the balcony door was closed, the room was very quiet. Housekeeping was very attentive and our room was cleaned promptly each morning. If you are staying during Ramadan, ensure your room is away from any of the bar/lounge areas as they tend to be quite "lively" after sunset/final prayers and open late.

There is a standard 12% service and 2% tax added to your bill for all charges.

TIP: If you go left out the front of the hotel and walk down 2.5 blocks you will find a Mobile station where you can purchase water/pop/snacks at a very good price. Immediately across the street is "Dunky's" where you can purchase liquor. Be very careful crossing the street!

The restaurants in this hotel are very poor - often leaving out ingredients without telling you, and serving out of date food. Management don't seem to care about these problems and there are certainly many other hotels in Cairo much, much better than this. AVOID!

My mom and I stayed at the Cairo Marriot during Oct 7-14th. Great stay, as long as you prepare yourself for the metal detectors, dogs sniffing the car upon arrival you will be fine! This did not bother us in the least bit but based upon the reviews here some people were bothered. The hotel was clean, grounds very well kept, and our room was spotless clean, with all of your typical Marriot amenities.
There was one incident upon arrival in which we were given a room with one bed, but the next day the hotel immediately switched us to another room with a double bed. The food at the hotel was also pretty good. Breakfast daily at Omar restuarant (included in our rate)...The "Bakery"is a good option for sandwiches and coffee, cheescake was also pretty good. Egyptian Nights rest. is also a good place to be at night.....

If I returned to Cairo I would definitely stay again.
