This place was a last minute find online whilst looking for last minute accommodation for a conference at the CICC in Nasr City. Of course, I was more after a downtown Cairo experience than a sterile international hotel, but also needed somewhere with a degree of peace to complete some work for the conference. THH has only been open less than 6 months came up trumps on all fronts.

Accommodation is just as the pictures (http://www.travellerspoint.com/accommodation/49604-Travelers-House/). Clean new sheets, comfy beds and well maintained rooms. Air con or fans were in both of the rooms I stayed in and mosquito coils are provided upon request. Small basic kitchen with free continental breakfast provided.

Wifi is reasonable though reception in the room away from the router (at reception) is iffy and occasionally drops - probably as much due to ISP as anything else. Speed is fine though and desktop PC in common area is rock solid and not tied down too much so you can fiddle if you need to. The common area also has a great balcony, 42" plasma TV with lots of international channels. Entire place has a cool clean mock Mediterranean feel which is a fitting sanctuary from the slightly gritty urban block it's in (4rth floor - quite a climb). Common area also has a fantastic little balcony with a great view onto the street below.

Location is superb - literally 4 floors up from the El Abd bakery described accurately by the Rough Guide as one of the best in Egypt (divine Turkish delight with nuts for $5). Also a stones throw from a very cool Kosheri place (local vegetarian dish of pasta, fried onions, chickpeas and stuff) and the environs are very safe (apart from the perennial risk of getting run over). Many local cafes are a 5 minute walk away where you can sit amidst hookas drinking coffee for hours just watching the street life.

James the proprietor has also travelled pretty widely himself and he and the rest of the young and ever-present staff are is a great source of advice about local issues both food and tourism. They organised a great pre-dawn camel ride and subsequent trip to bazars and certified papyrus shops. I paid 100 Egyptian pounds for the driver for a morning with the camel ride and stuff being extra.

Well worth a visit. Oh, they also offer free airport pickup which was a massive bonus.

I highly recommend this hotel. The experience has been very good because the staff is friendly and they have helped us to enjoy Cairo. The rooms are clean and have private bathroom, everything is very clean and there is a kitchen you can use. The hotel is at the center of Cairo, near the museum and you can walk anywhere. It has the best staff, friendly and helpful.
