“exceptional, warm hospitality coupled with great central downtown location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2011

My girlfriend and I arrived in Cairo late December 2010 without a hotel booking... luckily the friendly folks at Luna Hotel had a private single room with washroom available. Then we met Sammeh - the hotel approved travel planner who provided us with various no hassle options for tours. He managed to arrange a NYE cruise for us which was beyond our expectations. The most pleasant part, was that at every juncture, there was a driver or colleague waiting with a sign with my name on it to pick us up and offer us a drink before the next part of the trip. I would HIGHLY recommend staying at the Bella Luna (i.e. Luna Hotel) and if you don't have firm travel plans while in Egypt, speak with Sammeh ASAP!

We liked the cleanliness of the room, friendly staff and helpful service at the reception. Sam, the tour advisor arranged an excellent and reasonable tour for us in Cairo, Luxor and the red sea. It was hassle-free and flexible. We couldn't have seen so much of Egypt if we do it on our own. Therefore, we highly recommend Bella Luna Hotel.

The first thing is that this hotel has an impossibly grotty entrance at the ground floor. The lift is a disaster waiting to happen. I would advise caution when using it as there are some sections of floors fully exposed as the lift operates without the necessity of a second safety door.
The hotel is on the third floor and exudes a total lack of character. The breakfast tables are scattered about here and there.
Although they say the hotel is new there is nothing to show for it, it's so dull. The staff speak almost no English, and everything you ask them is a challenge. We asked for two extra blankets and it's as if you asked them to make one for you, and when they eventually brought one (yes one, not two) you lose the will to ask for one more.
Sam the 'guy' is sleazy and typical of money grabbing Egyptians. Don't take him up on his offer of a tour/guide. Do it yourself outside.
The rooms are spacious but devoid of any noise insulation. The bathroom is clean but the walls only go up half way, which is an incredible scraping the barrel way of saving money in construction. As a result the room is liable to smell. There is no secure way of closing the door, and it needs some strength to open and close. Water goes cold after two showers.
The hotel is centrally located but no-way is it within a comfortable walking distance to the museum. The noise is a problem and the hotel cannot dimiss this as they have done in the reply to a previous critical comment. If there were windows instead of wooden shutter doors then it would have helped. Just because it is central does not mean you have to be kept awake all night.
I would not put this hotel anywhere near the top twenty on this site. They even make you pay parking charges for their 'free' airport transfer. What's the sense in that?
Breakfast is adequate but by no means outstanding and the Egyptian breakfast was a porridge of black-beans, nan bread and something (falafel I think) fried. Not to my taste. And takes ages to come. You should rate this hotel according to the standards you expect in egypt for the money and for me and my family it was a let down.

Plus: Good location, value, nice room, free wifi. Downside: breakfest room is close to room so it's a bit loud. Also, I booked tour to pyramids with driver who was more interested in "free tours" of perfume factory, and pressuring me to take camel rides vs. maximizing my time at antiquities. Tell your driver - no sales tours, no camels, just Pyrarmids only!"

Saff was very friendly and went out of thier way to help and make comfortable- Sam the travel agent can make arrangements for you to go anywhere and the rates are very reasonable. He speaks very good english,
Hotel was clean and well located. Plenty of hot water and lights in room are very bright something you often dont'get in cairo. Would stay here again.

When our first choice was full, we booked the Bella Luna for 2 nights, assuming that it would be more of a mid range hotel. Despite having booked in advance and confirming a few days before, on arrival we were taken to Luna Hotel on the 5th floor and told that Bella Luna was full for the night but we would be moved the next night. The room at Luna, although large and spacious (could sleep 4), was quite dated with cracked floorboards, a shower that needed an upgrade and a balcony that looked ready to fall down 5 storeys. For the rate it is a reasonable room, but we were dissappointed that we had been downgraded. The next night we were moved to the 3rd floor, and the room was much better and newly renovated, although getting enough hot water for 2 showers was still a challenge. The location is great, it can be a bit noisy to sleep but having a room on the back helped.
The breakfast was fine and the staff were very helpful and friendly. If you are on a tight budget the Luna is okay, however, Bella Luna falls a bit short of a mid range hotel. Spend a few more dollars a night for some more conveniences like a tv, closet/armoire, a safe, internet access and a cleaner, more secure front entrance .

We stayed in the Bella Luna for 4 nights during November 2010. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and facilities. The location in downtown Cairo is great. The hotel is a bit hard to find, since it is located off an alleyway but once you find it you are set. The hotel is on a very busy and nosy road. However, the rooms are so dark and quite that we actually overslept 2 HOURS one morning!! The bathroom ceiling is open to the room. Therefore, you can hear what is going on in there, which was not a problem for us. The desk staff speaks English very well and is very helpful in recommendating good places to eat. Mr. Sam is there in the mornings and helps you make trip plans and offers suggestions if you want. He helped us book a plane ticket on Egypt Air for $96 when Expedia.com offered the exact same ticket for $135. The Egyptian Museum is within walking distance. You can also walk to the Metro and take it to Coptic Cairo for 1 LE each way. The free in room wifi is fast and the breakfast was good. We rented an all day taxi for the pyramids (Step, Bent, Red, and Great) through the hotel. The driver was English speaking. This is a great hotel if you want to be in downtown Cairo and want to avoid the busloads of tourists. It is a very small hotel with not many bells and whistles but it was clean, comfortable, and friendly. It was just what we wanted.
