5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2010

Cecilia is a cute and cosy hotel...rooms were basic but clean and comfy, slept really well and the staff were absolutely wonderful..their service is 5 star!! very helpful & fun... the location is in downtown cairo, 5 min walk from metro & museum..free wi fi & internet 24hrs....great rooftop balcony & cheap drinks...we left some baggage while we took off to upper egypt for 2 weeks and returned with our belongings well looked after!! if your looking for a low budget, basic, comfortable and fun place to stay,,cecilia's for you!!! if we ever return to cairo..we'de be happy to stay there again!!!

I stayed here with mi wife y mi 2 sons. It was a very lovely hotel. Everybody working there was very nice and so helpful. The hotel is small, but very safe and clean, and they give you a very nice egyptian breakfast in the morning. They had room big enough for all my family with 4 beds, was perfect. They made for us many tours in Cairo to the pyramids and the old city. They made for us a trip to Aswan and Luxor very exciting and fun for mi familia. ¡Todo era muy bueno! lo que es un hotel maravilloso :D Gracias Cecilia Hostel, we hope to see you again soon. ¡hasta luego!

After along flight, all tourists want is to lay in bed and relax. When my husband and I got to the hotel, it was like, we were having a bad dream... a nightmare!!! When we saw the ground floor where the hotel was supposed to be, we knew that it was not going to be good. We actually asked the person who welcomed us from the car, if the hotel is in the building because it looked like the building was bombed or something.
When we got to the reception area, in fairness the receptionist, who was wearing jeans, shirt and flip flops was friendly. But when he showed us the room...OH MY GOD!!! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think of staying in such a depressing place. Really, it was sooo depressing.
When we took a bath, the water leaked through the bedroom!!! It was really a disaster!!! It should not have been given a license to operate as a hostel. It's not fit to live in!!!
To the owner of the hotel...let this be a wake up call and have your place renovated!!!
We were really looking forward to our trip in Cairo, but our stay in Cecilia Hotel blew it.
Since it was already almost midnight when we reached the hotel that we had to stay there for the night. We actually reserved for 3 nights but we couldnt possibly stay there 1 more night, much more 3.
So, if you are planning on a trip to Cairo, stay away from this hotel!!!!

Pros: Accross the street from the American University, 10 min. walk to Cairo Museum, breakfast included on pretty veranda (bread, jam, butter, hard boiled egg), free internet, Osha (the girl at the front desk) is very nice

Cons: 6th floor of derilict building, at times the elevator although brand new is turned off, some rooms clean/nice, some not, very noisy so bring ear plugs, air conditioning worked at times and at other times did not, very small hostel

I booked one week in the hostel, I had a very hard time trying to get to the hostel. When I arrived they gave me a room it was ok not bad, the toilette was offal, No TV in the room. I couldn’t stay there more than one night. Then I changed to a different place.
It’s ok if you want to stay for a night or two but not more than that.
