“By far the only place to be in Cairo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Now is the best moment to visit Egypt. Don't mind the events. They are confined to certain areas only. Mainly in Tahir Square in Cairo for instance - just a few hundred square meters. Away from there, in the heart of Old Cairo (with it's wonderful market), don't go anywhere but here. It's beautiful, rooms are spacious, and the service can't be more perfect. All the staff would do anything to help. All make you feel like a king or a queen. Hussein was particularly remarquable and I thank him again for his wonderful welcome. I very warmly recommend Le Riad and will go back as soon as I can.

We are in the middle of 3 nights at Le Riad. We are from Canada and it's our first time to Egypt. Overall, Egypt has been an amazing experience so far, and we have barely started exploring the rest of the country. The people are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful in every way possible everywhere we have been so far. Le Riad is in the heart of the old Islamic part of Cairo; parts of the city walls are still standing just a couple blocks from the hotel. There is a bizaar/market only a few blocks away as well. The market is busy and interesting, but be prepared to have people "helping" you, even when you don't want it!

As other posts mention, the hotel itself is beautifully decorated; each room is unique. The best part has been the kindness and helpfullness of the staff, who have run out to get us things if we need it and answered all of our questions about life in Cairo/Egypt.

There are a number of mosques in the immediate vicinity which you can see from the rooftop terrace and hear the calls-to-prayer, which is very interesting.

There are not many tourists here at all on the streets! From what I've been told, this area in particular would have hundreds or thousands of tourists on the street each day. In the two days we've been here, I'd say I've seen maybe a dozen! If you don't want to be around tons of tourists, this is the place to be... and with that being said, Egypt has been a great place to visit. It has been safe in the areas we've been and they need people to come as the economy seems to be struggling a lot with the decreased number of tourists in the last couple of years. Overall an amazing trip so far and I'd recommend coming to Egypt!

Room Tip: The top floor provides the most amazing views, but each room is unique and very nice.

We are Australians who have just returned from touring Egypt - While visiting the Islamic part of Cairo our guide kindly showed us this wonderful boutique style hotel.
WOW - every room has a different theme - it really is very unique and special - each room is a piece of art in itself. I only wish we had stayed here - I console myself by saying "next time".
I know my biggest problem will be choosing which room - as they are all spectacular.
When I choose a hotel I rate cleanliness highest followed by position this hotel certainly meets both these needs.
Another important consideration is the bathroom - every bathroom in this Hotel is large, marble, excellent sized & with fully enclosed showers.
Surrounding this Hotel were very genuine and super friendly locals although it was busy and noisy as we were walking through the surrounding area I was amazed how peaceful and quite inside the hotel itself was!
I will also say this is a good area to shop, not as intense and much better priced - an example is a good quality scarf that other vendors elsewhere in Egypt would begin at 180,000 Egyptian pounds and higher here the starting price was 30,000.
As mentioned in earlier reviews there has been a change in management (the Hotel is still owned by one of the original 2 owners) and I had the great pleasure of meeting the new manager Nahed Hamy – Nahed’s attention to detail is most impressive.
Nahed could not have been more helpful and giving of her precious time.
All the staff are super friendly and helpful, I have no doubt this Hotel will satisfy those with the highest standards.

Room Tip: Every room is very individual and special - you are spoilt for choice.

We spent six wonderful days exploring the old walled city with Le Riad as the ideal base.

The hotel itself has been attractively desisned and furnished; the tea lounge and roof terrace are both great places to enjoy breakfast and the view from our balcony was an endless source of interest. The staff could not be more helfpful and welcoming. For anyone who takes pleasure in great architecture and decorative art, the imemdate neighbourhood is a tresaure chest, easily explored on foot. (It's also where Naguib Mahfouz set his masterpiece, Palace Walk),

We found Le Riad far more enjoyable than staying anywhere downtown.

The fish restaurant across the street serves cheap, well cooked meals of fresh fish.

The hotel is on the main street running from the old city walls to Khan el Khalili, these being only 5 minutes' walk away in opposite directions. Very close to the historic mosques and other old buildings of Islamic Cairo. We were slightly worried that, although our room was on the 5th floor and at the side of the hotel, we would be disturbed by street noise, because the area absolutely heaves, but we weren't disturbed at all.
For atmosphere, the area cannot be beaten.
The hotel itself has been stunningly designed, decorated and fitted out. The rooms are themed; ours was room 13, which had "music" as its theme (and its name). When I say "room", there was a living room, bedroom, dressing room/office and large bathroom. Free wifi throughout. There is a nice roof garden.
The bar/restaurant area was very attractive. Our package included "continental breakfast", which included all the usual, plus toast, extensive selection of fresh fruit and fresh omelettes.
A special mention must be made of the staff, all of whom were very friendly and helpful, and especially the assistant manager, Hussein, who was exceptionally so, way above and beyond the call of duty.
I understand from our tour operator that the owner of the hotel is Syrian, and that the hotel is for sale; if it IS sold, I hope the new owners keep the style and standards unchanged. We shall certainly stay at Le Riad de Charme on our next visit to Cairo, and I would recommend anyone who wants a central location, comfort, and to experience the charm of the real city to stay there, too.

Once you have found it, which can be a problem, as it is in the pedestrianised heart of old Cairo, you have found a haven of comfort.the decoration is adventurous and elegant, the rooms comfortable and clean.the food is not so exciting, better to east on the street.

Quite the experience at Le Riad in Cairo. Unfortunately, we only stayed there one night but what a beautiful place to stay. The location is wonderful; we enjoyed the morning sun on the rooftop while enjoying breakfast and then experiencing the markets in the evenings during a night time stroll. The rooms (yes multiple) were spacious complete with a seating area, 'office', bathroom and bedroom. Highly, highly recommended.
