the room, bathroom are clean, staff members are helpful (trips/transportation booked here might be slightly more expensive, but reliable), air-con is functioning well, one bed 60 Egyptian pounds approximately, price included breakfast (bought from a shop downstairs - delicious).
and most importantly, the hostel is located in Yacoubian Building! recommend for every fan of the book/film, it iss such a treat to stay here! (there is another hostel located in the same building 2nd floor).

Brothers Hostel is probably the reason why my experience in Egypt was as awesome as it was. The staff--especially Sherif and Ehab--really treated us like family and were always happy to help us, regardless of what we needed or when we asked. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

In particular: clean rooms, good a/c, and very good wifi.

Room Tip: Dorm rooms sleep 4, private rooms are nice.

Cairo is a zoo, particularly downtown where this hostel is located. So a friendly, helpful staff goes a long way. Indeed, the atmosphere inside felt more like a dorm room lounge (in a very good sense) than an anonymous hostel. People, including the staff, lounged around the couches all the time (when not working, of course) and chatted casually with the guests. Sharif, in particular, was the highlight of the hostel--generally, a straight-shooter, super friendly, and lots of fun. He also was keen on helping you identify B.S. from bad deals in the city. Ehab is also a great staff member, compassionate, sweet, and a great talker--if you get him to talk about politics and the like, you'll have a wonderful conversation. Other staff members ilke Amira, although not much of an English speaker, were all smiles and friendliness. The rates are particularly good, and the tour packages (depending on the driver, I feel) are pretty good overall. Ahmed, in particular, is a wonderful driver, if you get the chance. The stopovers at the papyrus shop and aroma therapy shop en-route to the Pyramid trip is unnecessary and most likely a commission thing - but if you stick to your guns and say you can't buy anything, they'll lay off. The pyramid trip at around 300 EGP isn't too bad either, although expect the horse and camel guides to ask you for tips. The staff cleans the hostel every morning, so overall it's pretty clean. The room beds, however, could use more change of linens as I also noticed some hairs in my bed. Also, the bathrroom, while clean, is particularly old and a bit grimy. The food is simple but filling, "authentic," and if you're lucky - festive cuz you can eat with the staff. Any questions you have they'll answer, particularly Sharif and Ehab. Although there are a few warts (nothing serious), for an unforgettable experience, pick Brothers Hostel!

The airport pickup was great. Our flight was delayed slightly and the driver was there with a sign. We were greeted by friendly helpful staff. They showed us a map of the sights and suggested possible itineraries. I suggest bringing your own map to Cairo as city maps are hard to find here. The staff offered many tips about safety and where to go. The breakfast was a continental breakfast. Most of the dorms face the street which is a main local shopping street with goods from China. Cairo can be much louder at night than during the day. Bring ear plugs. Also, the rooms face the hall so often people are up at night watching TV or talking. The shower/bathroom area is coed--bring shower shoes. The private rooms seemed nicer and didn't face the street or hallway. Reliable internet. Friendly backpacker place to meet others. There is a guard in the building as there are businesses in the building. If you are a single female, the staff will offer to go get you food at night. The rooms are clean, but it is Cairo. The shower area could use some updating.

We booked our trip to the pyramids through the hostel. We were very pleased and the driver was accommodating. He knew a lot and was very friendly. I recommend going to the three pyramids. The Giza pyramids proved to have the most hagglers. We walked around the pyramids which was sufficient--don't feel like you have to book a camel or donkey. Its a brutal place for those animals. There are hagglers even in the pyramid area. One hour there was sufficient.

It is "downtown" but many places in Cairo you have to take a taxi--they are cheap but take a very long time because of the traffic. The metro only goes to a few of the main tourist areas.

Room Tip: some rooms do not face the street and can be quieter---I think they might cost more.

My stay at this hostel was fantastic!!! As soon as i arrived i felt very comfortable, the staff are so friendly and genuinely want to help you in any way to make your stay the best it can be... I felt safe everywhere i went (which is very important to me as i am a solo traveler) I did a couple of tours, I went to Giza with a guide, Ahmed is great and hilarous, rode through the pyamids on horseback....amazing...I went to the dessert and stayed in a Bedwin tent and had dinner under the stars and danced all night by the fire and sang and played drums...watched the sun set and sun rise over the dessert which was spectacular.....the bedwin guide Tamer aka Black Tiger was great and always made the trip fun!! I can not fault the experience i had in Egypt and at the hostel....everything was perfect!! Thanks Brother Hostel for making my stay a fantastic experience!! I will be back!!!
