“perfect place to spend a lovely night by the nile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The location and atmosphere is amazing. Food and oriental desert are delicious. Got to try Om Ali and shisha is a must have there. Little bit crowded but yet sitting is comfortable

“a relaxed taste of Cairo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

The Sequoia is located on the nile and has a small path that leads you to the restaurant which is covered with white sail and decorated with cream sofa, cushions and outdoor heaters (during winter). Its atmosphere cozy and friendly make it a must go for Zamalek local and tourist, the food which is a selection of arabic mezzes, such as hummus, falafel, babaghannoush, tahina etc. it is more than an excuse for a get together. Pizza are served as well. The food quality is good even tough it does not reach high level of food experience (very hard to reach in Cairo tough).
You may smoke the shisha like in the old smoking cafes.. I do suggest a stop in this place, I always do when I go to Cairo. During spring and summer, it is open air and you can relax while enjoying the view of the Nile..

“Best decor and ambiance in town, mediocre food and value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Sequoia should really be visited at some point during a trip to Cairo. It is a very charming spot on the northern tip of Zamalek, literally on the Nile (you could stick your hands in the water from some tables, but....don't). It is decked out in nice white linens and comfy white couches. All in all it gives one a sort of "sultan of the nile" type feeling, which makes it a great place for a dinner out with friends, or especially to take someone who hasn't been to the city or region before. Alcohol is available, and the shisha is on the list of best in town. In the winter there is plastic sheeting keeping in the heat from those big standing gas heater things, and in summer it is open air.

The downside- food is nothing to write home about, and relatively expensive by Cairo standards. Lebanese-ish mezzas are ok but much better can be found in Cairo. You can also order sushi from their partner restaurant, which is pretty good, but very expensive.

Definitely worth the visit, at least once.
