This hotel, while not right in the middle of the action, is well situated to access all the main sites in Seoul. Seoul is a very safe city and, as a woman traveling alone, I had no reservations about walking everywhere. When I was too tired to walk anymore, I never paid more than a few dollars for my taxi ride back to the hotel. I never bothered with the subway.

The airport shuttle dropped me off/picked me up right in front of the hotel. That was a great value. It took about 70 minutes to get to the airport.

The only downfall to this hotel is that there is nowhere to eat immediately surrounding the hotel so you have to plan around your meals. The food served in the hotel is tasteless and overpriced so I recommend eating your meals outside of the hotel.

We stayed here since we needed free internet access and other 'nicer' hotels charged for it. But after staying here I would consider it one of the nicer hotels. It was great; it had everything we needed and a great price! We could see the Seoul Tower out our windows and the rooms were very clean and modern. There's a convenience store steps away for a soda on the go, the subway station is just down the block and the airport bus stop is right out front. Since Im unfamiliar with the neighborhoods of Seoul, Im not sure if it's the ideal one for tourists, but we found it really convenient for every place we went. There were a couple of street vendors near by that you could get a quick and cheap breakfast at, with a big smile! Extremely helpful hotel staff; they directed me to a pharmacy that I would have never found on my own, which I visited for cold medicine, not because of street vendor food :)

The Best Western Kukdo is a new hotel with the BW Premiere designation and it is a very nice hotel. My queen bedded room wasn't large, but it was comfortable, had an easy chair, large work surface, comfortable bed. All that you need.

While I was there, based on what I saw at breakfast each day, it seemed the hotel mainly catered to Japanese tour groups. No problem.

There is a breakfast buffet for about $13.50 US -- on par with the buffets served at many US hotels -- but with some added Asian foods along with the western items.

Service was good and friendly.

The only downside, and it isn't a big one is the location. The hotel is very convenient to the Seoul subway and you can walk to "downtown" and other shopping districts with ten minutes or so. But the immediate neighborhood is filled with stores that sell light and electrical fixtures, safes, office furniture, store fittings. My experience is that 7-11 type stores are ubiquitous in many Asian capitals -- two per block sometimes, but the nearest one to the BW Kukdo is at least 4 blocks away (although that may change -- it appeared that a shop next to the hotel was being refitted while I was there). So if you want to keep a bottle of soda or some snacks in the room, you can't just run out for them. This isn't a big deal, but just unusual.

You will also have to walk a few blocks to find a restaurant, again -- when the weather is fine, no problem.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 days in Jan. 09. While the hotel facilities were very nice, the hotel is located in a run down neighborhood between Myong dong and Tongdaemun market. The room was pretty good, nice bed but there was no bath in the room, only a shower and there was some signs of wear in the room despite it being a new hotel. That being said, we had a very comfortable stay and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
We shopped in myeong dong and tongdaemun. If you dont mind a little walk, 10-15 mins to tongdaemun and a little bit more to myeong dong, its no problem, or you can take a quick taxi which will cost you 2,000 won.
However around the hotel, there is very little. So basically if you want to run outside to grab a bite to eat, you wont find anything.
Good hotel if you dont mind jumping in the subway or a short walk, bad if you want to be in the middle of things.

  • Liked — Location-- close to Tongdaemun and myeongdong
  • Disliked — location-- nothing around the hotel

The staff at Best Western Premier Kukdo stood out from all my hotels in Korea, beating even the staff from some 6-star hotels. From the bellboy to the counter staff, most spoke good English (by Korean standards) and often serve with a smile on their faces. This makes you feel at home in a country whereby English is seldom used. Rooms are very good with all necessary amenities available. We stayed on the 19th floor which offers a superb view of the city, both in the day and the night. The only downside of the hotel is its location as it is located along a street which sold mainly lights and hardware stuff. So, if you are looking for a walk nearby the hotel, you have chosen a wrong hotel as there is basically nothing for tourists to do around that area. Other than this, the hotel is very close to the subway (e.g. less than 5 min walk) and the airport bus-stop is right in front of the hotel. I will definitely stay at this hotel again as it is really good value for my money.
