“Loved it. Highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2010

We ran away to Han Suites from Best Western Dongdaemun Hotel after one night (old, dim, not cheap - do believe all the bad reviews on Tripadvisor about Best Western DDM. Stay only one night so that you can crash there after great shopping in DDM till 4am, then move out pronto).

Han Suites was bright and welcoming, what a relief and a pleasure.

Good points:
1. Value. We paid a tax-inclusive 66,000 won (approx AUD66) per night for a room with a double bed and ensuite, from a hotel booking website. Great value in view of description below.
2. Room. Clean, new (hotel is 2 years old), room is a generous size, with hanging space and small set of drawers, and a large wall-mounted Samsung TV with cable channels (live Starcraft coverage, anyone?). Has full-sized fridge with 2 free bottles of water per stay, mini stove, kettle, pot, kitchen knives, glasses (even wine glasses), cups and plates. Strangely no spoons.
3. Receptionists. Efficient. Very good English. Impeccable manners. Helpful right from the first phone call, with clear instructions on getting there. Offered to help with airport transport, and even let me do flight internet check-in and print boarding pass from the receptionist's own computer.
4. Lobby - free internet and newspapers. Good internet connection on both computers, but no printer (hence above situation re boarding pass). But friendly receptionist said they would print us anything we emailed to them. Lobby has a nice area with seats and daily English and Korean newspapers and stylish magazines.
5. Gym. Equipment is quite new, good condition and range, with TVs on wall.
6. Laundry. There is massive coin-operated washing machine, convenient and not expensive. The dryer swallowed our coins but our clothes dried due to generous hanging space in room.
7. Shuttle bus to city. There is free shuttle bus to the city every weekday morning. We didn't take it, but I gather this is for the business people who stay there.
8. Location. <10 minutes' walk to Myeongdong shopping area and subway station (exit 10), good for shopping and eating. <10 minutes' walk to Chungmuro subway station (exit 4), good for going places because it has more subway lines. <10 minutes' walk to Namsan, great for exercise - takes a fairly fit person 20 minutes of continuous ascent to get to Namsan Tower at the top and is a panting, heart-pumping workout with views. Airport bus stops at Sejong Hotel which is a 5-minute walk to Han Suites.

Minor points. These didn't bother me, but I've listed them so that you build them into your expectations.
1. Ensuite. It's very clean and quite new, but small. Not as tiny as the Japanese moulded bathrooms. There's a toilet, sink and shower over a full-sized bathtub, designed and positioned well for that space. Perfectly adequate size for an average Asian like me, but a tall Westerner may be knocking elbows against the wall while showering.
2. No windows. This was made very clear to us when booking, so it was absolutely fine. Hard to tell whether it's day or night outside, but so what, we were on holiday. Anyway the other places we stayed in in Seoul had windows overlooking other buildings' walls, so we didn't lose much.
3. Beverages. The 2 free bottles of water were a nice touch, though we were fine drinking Seoul tap water. No free coffee/tea. If you BYO coffee, remember to get a plastic spoon to stir it. Room has everything else you need for a nice drink, though, including a kettle and classy cup and saucer.

We stayed at the Han Suites 2-bedroom apt from 1-8 June. The staff at Reception were helpful, knowledgeable (esp those who spoke English well), and exceeding attentive (they stood up and bowed every time the main doors or lift doors opened with guests). Location was excellent. We found small friendly eateries around the Police Station, near Chungmuro Station, near the cinema. Cafes were aplenty. We had nice simple breakfasts at Paris Baguette. Tom & Toms is not far away. The walk to Myeongdong was a painless 7 minutes. The only problem was that taxi drivers often had no idea where the place was, and would not take the passengers. A call to Reception quickly solved the problem, but it was quite a hassle. Easier to tell the driver Astoria Hotel, and get off to walk the small path fm the Police Station to the basement carpark of Han Suites.
The weather turned out to be much warmer than all the forecasts. In fact, it was hot! Which made it odd that the second room near the entrance to the apt had no aircon unit. Save for a small window, it felt very much like a bomb shelter. We have 2 sons aged 9 & 14. We solved the problem by dragging out the mattress into the living room, which also had the spare bed set up.
There is only one TV in the unit. It would have been much better if the master bedroom had a TV of it's own.
There is no blackout on the curtains, and with early daylight in Spring, you would find it quite difficult to sleep in beyond 6am.
The common bathroom was dark. Could have done with better lighting.
Travellers from countries with 3-pin plugs will find the slanted and recessed 2-pin rounded sockets inconvenient, even with adaptors. You could pay a deposit at Reception for a suitable adaptor, or find a way to prop up your plugs so that you can charge your appliances...
Note that there are no forks, spoons, but enough plates, bowls and cups - another oddity...
Find out exactly how the floor warmer works with the water heater - you don't need it to be accidentally switched on, or not have heated water when you need it. Instructions on the panel are all in Korean.
Other than the comments above, it was a very pleasant stay and a good choice.
We will definitely stay there again.
ps: And ask the staff to help you with ordering the excellent Korean Fried Chicken from Two Two Fried Chicken. The delivery man will send up your order. There's also a Two Two outlet near the Cinema, just beyond Chungmuro Station...

The staff really makes this place special. They went out of their way to help me, on every request that I've made. Even when calling me a taxi, they waited outside with me and spoke with the taxi driver in Korean to make sure that they knew where I wanted to go. I stayed here 4 nights, and I was amazed over and over at how helpful the staff was.

Positives
-great staff... I've never seen service this good
-large sized apts
-quiet, despite being in center of town
-convenient to Chungmuro subway station, 10 min walk to Myungdong shopping area

Negatives
-great kitchen, but no grocery stores nearby (only 7-11 type convenience store)
-taxi drivers (all of them) had a hard time finding this hotel. Take the hotel's business card with you, and the taxi driver can call the hotel for directions.

Han Suites is actually conveniently located near Myeongdong station. However, it can be tricky to locate it. Either you walk the dark small alley between the police post & Astoria Hotel up or you go one big round on the main road.

When we walked into the lobby, the 2 reception staff immediately stood up and bowed! They wore a very brilliant smile on their face 24/7! As it is like a labyrinth inside, despite repeated instructions, we still could not get it. Instead of getting angry, the staff happily walked us up all the way to the room and chatted very friendly with us. Each apartment are equipped with a cctv cam to see who's outside the door and they used card system for the door. Security was good.

The room was very well equiped with kitchen and utensils. The tv was superb. They suscribed to cable television and we had Nat Geo and movies 24/7! Room was very spacious but the bathroom was abit too small for one person. No bathtub, just standing shower. There are a couple of computers at the lobby with free internet access. As I was there on their New Year day, so there is no chambermaid room clean-ups. We were ok with that and the staff apologised profusely for this lack of services. I was very touched by their sincerity and assistance during my stay there.

The rooms are only available when there is a more than 2 days stay. So if you are in Seoul for longer vacation, I strongly recommend Han Suites. It was a pleasant stay there.

Booked 7 night stay twin bed. Basically like an apartment room. It was good value (i think about AUD$71 a night - which is a great price), very spacious especially coming from holidaying in Japan and had all the amenities like stove, fridge, bathroom. Not as good as photo's seen on website but pretty decent and clean. We got a room on foyer level so maybe the rooms higher up are better with polished timber floorboards and your own washer/dryer (there is a communal one a floor below which costs 3,000 won total to use for wash, dry and detergent). Front desk staff were very nice and helpful, speaks very good english and no curfew. Free internet x 2 and restaurant area in foyer and gym downstairs. Close to shopping strip with heaps of restaurants (10 min walk) and chungmuro station (5 mins) which is a main transfer station on seoul metro.
Only negative was no air-con so room can get abit stuffy. During our stay renovation work began on units above on last 2 days so from 9am could not sleep. Wasnt as lucky as other reviewers who got a free room upgrade but would still come back to stay here given all the positives.
Hopefully next time rooms would have been all renovated and look like the photos.

I booked 2 units of a double bed room for my family of four but got a pleasant surprise when I check-in to be told that I had been upgraded to 2 units of a 2 bed-room apt with full kitchen/washing facilities. The whole unit was like an apartment. A living/dining room, bedroom..Sort of a home away from home, so it did not feel like you were staying in a hotel. They provided all the stuff that you need if you wanted to cook, a washing machine/dryer for your clothes. Considering the price I had paid what I got was double the value. The bedroom was clean, bed was comfortable, cupboard spacious enough for your belongings. There is a balcony for this particular unit both at the main bedroom and living room. Location wise it was a 5 min walk to Myeondong, shopping district..lots of shops if you like shopping, lots of places to eat..also there are 2 subway stations nearby..Myeongdong and Chungmuro. The latter being the nearest to the hotel. If I got back to Seoul, this would probably be the place to stay, provided I can get the same type of unit. I saw the smaller units which are located at the lower floors and it looks pretty basic like a normal hotel room. The only catch is if you are coming from the airport , the bus does not stop at the hotel. The nearest stop is at Myeondong station outside Sejong Hotel. You have to walk and with big luggage plus children, can be inconvenient. So what I did was to hire a taxi (International Taxi) which had a driver that could speak English. The cost is 65000 won. A lot more convenient as you will get directly to the hotel with minimum fuss.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

I stayed at Han Suites with a friend for about 6 days in July 2009. First of all, the people at the front desk are EXTREMELY helpful and they speak English very well. They always stood up and bowed whenever they saw us (which was quite unnecessary) and were very courteous. Whenever we went out they would wish us a nice day and because we visited during the rainy season in Seoul, they would stop up before we went out to offer us an umbrella.

When had booked a Studio with twin beds but when we arrived they had upgrades up to a two bedroom apartment! They even sent someone up with us to show us around. The apartment itself is quite nice. There is a living room area with a TV, ironing board and iron, sink, stove, washing machine, fridge, and plenty of dishes and utensils at our disposal. The cleaning staff comes 5 times a week I believe, but not on the weekends. No problem since you can always call down for more towels. There is air conditioning in both the living room and the bedroom. Also, I liked the firm mattress.

There were some things that bothered me but nothing that greatly affected my opinion of this place. First of all, it is not as "high-tech" or up to date as other hotels. The TV is not a flat screen and the equipment for the golf driving range is a bit worn down. Also, the apartment itself smells kind of old, but opening the windows for about 10 minutes solves that problem. The water system is also a little wacky. When I took a shower it would shift from hot to cold water and was very inconsistent, the staff acknowledged this as well, I believe they were in the process of fixing it.

This place is really great for the price. A great place to stay in downtown Seoul. You are walking distance (literally less then 10 minutes away) from Myung Dong. Namdaemon market, Dongdaemon market, and Insadong are a bit further but still easily reachable. You are also close to Seoul Station so you can take the subway and you get a great view of the Seoul Tower. I never tried the food down at the restaurant but there are many cheap and good eats in Myung Dong. We went to Crown Bakery to get breakfast most days. I highly recommend you book this place for your stay in Seoul.
