Booked 2 junior suite rooms at Ibis Myeong-dong for 4N/5D. Stayed with my 72 year old mother, my husband and 2 kids aged 12 and 11. We took the limousine bus No. 6015 from Incheon Int'l Airport non stop to the hotel. Very convenient at only 10,000 Won per person.
Came in at about 11 am. We left our luggage at the first floor desk and were told check in time is at 2 pm. We took a stroll, had lunch and did a little shopping. Came back about 2:20 pm to check-in and was informed only 1 room was ready as the prior guest checked out late. We asked that we be allowed to check out at 2 pm on our last day. The lady in the front desk obliged. When we got to the room, it was hot with a temp. of 28+ deg. Celsius. We called the cleaning lady who was right outside the room. She promptly opened the window and called front desk who said it takes about 30 minutes for the room to cool. That night we had to call the front desk again for the same problem. The following day I requested for a room change. Someone came up to the room touched the AC controls again and said another 10 minutes. It wasn't cooling any, as expected, so my husband and I went to the front desk. The lady explained again that the AC is centralized etc. I told her the temp was still 27-28 degrees and the other room we booked had a much cooler temp compared to this one. Finally, we got our room changed to a cooler one. I noted though that at night, even with the new room, the temp. increases. Even if your thermostat is set at 21, the reading is about 24-25.
As far as location, you can't go wrong. My mother has a bit of difficulty walking. This hotel is situated conveniently beside shopping, dining and cultural places. A few meters away are stalls that sell Korean food, fruits, clothes, bags, shoes. accessories, make-up and skin care products. There are also int'l fast food chains like Burger King, KFC and McDonald's. Across the street is the Lotte Department Store. We took a cab to get to places like Gyeongbok Palace and National Folk Museum, Namdaemun market (great for ladies clothes, kids clothes and shoes), Dongdaemun and Seoul Tower. The fare ranged from 3,000 to 5.500 won each way. Not bad! The kids and my husband went to Everland Theme Park and paid 60,000 won for a cab each way.
The breakfast buffet is very limited with croissants, bread, eggs, salad, sausage, bacon, porridge, kimchi, korean side dishes, miso, udong, fruits, coffee, tea and juices. On one day there was bulgogi. By our 4th day, the menu was repeated. The lunch buffet selections were excellent, however. We ate lunch there one time and they served grilled flank steak-soft, juicy and tasty, sushi and korean raw beef.
Service in the first floor desk and restaurants were good. Front desk was so-so.
In all, if you are willing to sacrifice some comfort for the convenience in the location then consider Ibis Myeong-dong Seoul.
