“Best Hotel for Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2010

First off this is Asia and a business hotel so don't expect the four seasons. For the price i booked it for is is a great hotel. Even if i paid more its a great hotel. It is located perfectly to get around the city. At first its a little confusing because its in some tight alleyways and has that rough vibe, but as soon as you get familiar with the area and realize were everything is its great. All the alleys have Korean food and all the streets have coffee, markets, and most important the subway and airport bus is a minute away. The Hotel is surprisingly very modern, nice room, free internet, fridge,ac,air cleaner, etc. and very clean. The staff is great most are young and speak pretty good English. They have a 24 front desk and had my room ready even though i check in at 330am in the morning. They told me about airport bus and also let me pay a half day rate to check out late. Again the city is huge and I saw the westin, Hyatt,Lotte, etc. All are in good locations but I thought Doulos was the best and online less then 70 bucks a night. One more thing its nice and quiet because its off the street.

First and foremost the location of the hotel is unbeatable. It is close to a major subway stop (3 intersecting lines run through the stop) which makes travelling within Seoul, to and from Gimpo airport, extremely easy. Cheonggyechong area is 5 mins away and you can get a lot of good food there. Myeongdong is 15mins away walking and of course shopping is the main agenda there.

The complimentary breakfast was great. Choices were up to the average standard--boiled eggs, sausages, toast, cereal, fruits, tea, juice and coffee.

My only complaint would be the size of the rooms. We stayed in a deluxe double and it was small but well equipped. However, we can't imagine staying in anything smaller (the standard....).

I would return again, especially if we can get the same price as this time from hotelwide---W80,000/night. Also, I would recommend booking early because when we were there at this time it was fully booked.

Although a little hard to find, the taxi driver seemed to know where this place was.

First impressions were a bit odd as this hotel is situated down a rather dirty looking back alley but the building's facade is modern and swanky looking, it almost seemed out of place.

Staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to booking a trip to the DMZ and the taxi back to the airport upon our departure.

Rooms were very quiet, although rather small they were perfectly formed and clean too. Breakfast was a bit odd though as the breakfast was served in the theatre room downstairs. The selection on offer was ok but nothing to rave about., it was quite basic.

Over-all a nice little hotel with friendly staff, location was ok for getting to some historic places of interest and for shopping. Would recommend for the price!!

I usually stay in the Myeong Dong area of Seoul, which is a crowded shopping area. However, it is more pricey there and decided to search for a place that had more reasonable prices. I came across Doulos Hotel and saw on their website that you get a discount for booking online. I booked a standard online.

The best way to get here is by Airport Limousine Bus 6002. They are parked right outside of the terminal, big red buses. You should see the word "Jong No" in white on the windows. You can ask the bus driver "JONG NO SAM GA" and he will tell you. It is 9,000W, but I feel like he was actually taking 9,500W? I am not sure, it is very cheap. There are several stops before Jong No Sam Ga, so you want to keep your ears peeled. You know you are approaching when the bus announces stops at Jong No Il (1) Ga.

When you get off the bus, walk to the right. Walk to the end of the block you got dropped off on. You should see a Missha and a food stand that serves toast, sandwiches, and juice. Make a left. You will walk 1 block, passing food stands, Korean restaurants. As you approach the end of this 1 block, you should notice a big chicken restaurant across the street, with big orange awnings. You are now at a small street and make a left. It is not necessarily an "alley way" as described before. It is not a main road, but it's not a tiny narrow street, either. If you peer down this small road, you should see 2 motels - one has blinking signs, the other is right across from it. You walk past it and should see Doulos on the right. There are trophy stores, but I didn't really notice them in the evening when I arrived b/c it was all dark. I rest assure you that it is very safe and I never felt unsafe, I walked back/forth alone as a female, at night even. Sure, there may be drunk men or couples wandering in the general area of Jongno, but they are harmless. Like in any city, just be smart and keep to yourself!

The train station, Jong No Sam Ga, is also right where you get dropped off by the bus. The subway is the most efficient and cheapest way to travel around Seoul, I highly recommend it. There is a bit of walking to do underground to get back and forth from stations to the actual subway, so I still recommend you wear good shoes if you are sightseeing or shopping.

The hotel is such a breath of fresh air after all the traveling you may have done to get to Seoul. The employees are helpful and try their best. They speak Korean, English, and Japanese. There are 2 computers on the 2nd floor to use for free.

The rooms itself are small, but well-appointed, clean and comfortable. We asked for nonsmoking, but the room reeked of smoking. There is an air purifier and a tiny window, which helped a bit. There is free LAN connection in the room. You have to use your key to activate the electricity in the room. Remember this when you are charging items or using adapters, as it all shuts off when the key is removed. The front desk provides adapters for free. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, modern and clean. The toiletries are not in little plastic bottles, but in tear-open packets. This was cumbersome, but sufficient for my stay. If you do not get your room cleaned, they will call you to make sure and ask if you need anything. They will bring you extra towels or toiletries if you ask them. I thought that was a very nice touch.

The breakfast is served in the basement. At first, I was wondering where, but you walk through small hallways to an extremely large room with several large round tables. I think it may be used for Sunday church worship services. It is breakfast buffet style. There is always: some sort of soup, various breads, hard boiled eggs, salad, cereal, yogurt, coffee, juice. Very clean and great to get your day going. One of the better free hotel breakfasts I've had.

Jong-no is a bit of a foodie area, and there are many restaurants and food stands nearby. At night, the food stands are cheap and fun, I would definitely recommend walking by the hotel to see what is out there. There are great restaurants nearby as well. Visit Korea website has good recommendations for the Jongno area, especially their samgyupsal (grilled pork belly) recommendations nearby. Koreans tend to eat out regularly b/c food is cheap and plentiful, so it is difficult to come across anything bad. Look for busy places and you will most likely be pleased with your meal. In addition, Insadong is within walking distance. It is more of a historical area with older buildings and lots of art galleries. It is worth a stroll and one of my more favorite areas of Seoul.

I was very pleased with my hotel stay in Doulos and would highly recommend this place.

The hotel's perfectly situated. 3 min walk from the nearest subway station and the airport bus-stop. From the hotel, it's a 10 min walk to Insadong where you'll find a street market, art galleries and plenty of local restaurants. To get to the hotel, you need to walk through a grid of alleys with little workshops specialising in making plaques and trophies - it's a little unceremonious to have to approach the hotel this way, but hardly feels dangerous.

once you find and enter the hotel, it feels like an oasis. i expected a rather functional place without bells and whistles, but the decor in the lobby and even the corridors is actually pretty slick. My room was entirely serviceable - no frills but clean, modern, comfy and quiet. There was free wired internet connection, a TV and toiletries. I couldn't get a deluxe room and had to settle for a standard. Even then, the bathroom which is spacious and even comes with a bathtub!

sleepyheads be warned - breakfast (included in the price) is just from 7 to 9 am.

for the price I paid (KRW 88,000), it's an absolute steal and i'd definitely stay here again.

This is a great hotel if you want a reasonable price combined with a central location for pleasure travel. It is near all the Palaces, the shopping areas and markets and close to most of the student areas for bars and restaurants. We had a great time. Rooms are comfortable although not large by USA standards but compare well with UK standards. Theres also the added bonus of being able to do your own laundry. The staff are very friendly and hugely helpful. We stayed in some other 5 star places elsewhere in Korea and preferred the Doulos by far!

I had a room with my daughter, and my borther and his wife stayed in another room. The hotel is a small independent hotel that caters to business travelers. The rooms have a bed, desk, hanger space, TV, bathroom, fridge, but no extra space. Clean and quiet. Staff were helpful and nice. Location is on side street very near subway, airport buses, restaurants, shopping. Good breakfast. We met other Tripadvisor users who happened to be stranded on way to London during European airport closures from the volcano. The hotel definitely lived up to its recommendations. Only complaint is that inside temperatures are maintained higher than necessary (popular in Korea), helped somewhat by opening the window.
