“Get the Namsan View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

I stayed here for six nights in November. I have been to Seoul many times and have stayed mostly downtown (City Hall, Myeongdong, etc...). This was my first stay there in a more secluded hotel (i.e., Shilla, Grand Hyatt). While it was a bit less inconvenient than having everything at my doorstep and the added daily coming and going involves more buses and trains (or taxis) to and from the Hyatt's hilltop location, I have to say that it is so quiet and peaceful at night. I slept very well each night. Those who have been to Seoul know that it is a 24x7 city...there are few quiet places like this moutaintop in the inner city. Many reviewers say to get the city/river view. You can see that from the lounge or one of the many bars and restaurants in the hotel during your visit or stay. I say get the Namsan Mountain view for your room. It was beautiful at night and also in the morning and if you go in the fall the foliage is spectacular. A few small complaints...#1, wifi in a hotel of this quality and price range should be free...#2, whatever happened to newspapers delivered daily to your door? they cost next to nothing, after all...and #3, the hallways, while clean and well kept up, have this strange thing going on with way too many mirrors, almost like a funhouse effect. It is too much and distracts from the overall regal and calm atmosphere of this hotel. I will attach a photo the Namsan view from my 10th floor room.

Room Tip: Choose City View for the city and river, Mountain View for Namsan.

“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I have stayed here several times now and the service has been very stable. I like the Grand Hyatt's location, which is very close to Itaewon bar and restaurant area.

The hotel has all the features including a full spa area with an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a great gym. I like the hotspring and sauna area, which is very well maintained.

The breakfast and lunch buffets are great with a healthy choice of Western and Korean food items. The view over the river and the Southern part of the city is amazing as the hotel is located on a hillside. So if you can choose a city-view room. Although the "mountain view" is also nice.

The standard rooms are nice although they might feel a little small. Nevertheless they have most of the amenities (except an ironing board and iron, which I had to order from housekeeping). Very unusual for a 5-star hotel of this caliber is the choice of free (slower) and charged (faster) internet services. The free option is a plus and sufficient for checking emails and surfing the web.

The bed is very comfortable. Bathroom did not have a bathtub, which didn't bother me too much, but maybe other people would miss it.

The hotel also has a great club with a live band area and a club (DJ) area. It's always happening especially on the weekends. Drinks are very expensive though.

Room Tip: Choose a city-view room for breathtaking views of the Southern part of Seoul.

“Best Seoul Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I would recommend wholeheartedly staying here in Seoul. It is a lovely setting with amazing views of the city.
The rooms are a very good size with all amenities. The deluxe rooms have great showers. The only thing in the rooms is that the Aircon is turned off in October and rooms can get a bit hot when the sun is on them. The bed was a little harder than I like but I actually slept well.

The pool is great and good size if you want to do some exercise as opposed to just laze around.

One added benefit is that Taxis are always freely available with no waiting.

Great room...amazing view over the city and river from the hill top.
Lavish breakfast, again with great views down to the city.
Highly recommended.
Very handy for the viewing tower on the nearby hill top and nearby art gallery

Room Tip: High up with a view

“Reception was Terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We were mistreated , neglected,
ignored during check in..

We arrived on a rainy day,
there was NO one at the main entrance to handle the luggage,
greet us ....etc

The clerk who was handling
the check-in was so unfriendly,
that made the experience very unpleasant.

Remember this is a Five-star Hotel,
not a hostel...

Room Tip: ignore this hotel

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent stay with us and would like to sincerely apologise for the service failures you encountered.

We do assign dedicated staff to welcome our guests on arrival, including baggage assistance, valet and guest greeting services. For some reason, these staff members were not in place at the time of your arrival. We are reviewing this area of coverage to ensure that this does not affect future guest experiences.

With regards to your unpleasant check-in experience, this was certainly not reflective of the high level of personal service by which we hold ourselves accountable. We truly apologise. We have taken all of your comments into consideration and are reinforcing our focus on these areas of service.

I know that these apologies cannot reverse your unsatisfactory experience, but we appreciate your taking the time to bring this matter to our attention so that we may pursue improvements. We hope that sometime in the future you will allow us the privilege of serving you again, so that we may restore your confidence in Grand Hyatt Seoul.
