“A beautiful hotel in a wonderful city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Just got back from my first trip to Seoul. Travelled for business and had the good fortune of staying at this wonderful hotel. The hotel was everything you would expect from a JW Marriott. Quiet, comfortable rooms with nice amenities. Staff was very capable in use of the English language (good thing since my Korean consists of "Thank You" "Hello" "Beer" and "Kimchi". A fellow can do OK with those 4 but having a conversation with the staff requires a bit more. Check out the coffee shop/specialty bakery just off the lobby for a quick bite.

Room Tip: The higher the better for a good view

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013 via mobile

I had a 12 hour layover in Seoul on October 6, 2013 and decided to stay at this hotel after reading the excellent reviews and finding a reasonable rate as a Marriott Rewards Gold. To my surprise, this business hotel exceeded my expectations. From the moment that I arrived to the check in, to the checking out, there was always someone trying to help you in a very proffesional and courteous way. The room itself (3302) had an amazing view and comfortable king bed, the bathroom was quite spacious for being Asia and everything was spotless. The breakfast at the restaurant was also very nice. The pool/fitness center were also excellent. Actually, they gave the impression of a five star resort! Overall, my stay at the JW Marriott was fantastic and the next time I'm in Seoul, I will definitely stay there again!

The good points:
Rooms are excellent. The rooms are large by city standards, beds are very comfortable, bathrooms big with separate shower, airconditioning is responsive to adjustment and strong enough. Blackouts are effective. All condusive to a good night's sleep.

Good but expensive Shinsegae department store and restaurants and supermarket connected via the hotel lobby. Other cheaper stores beyond the department store.

Faults:
It's a 10-20min taxi ride to the main tourist sights which all are North of the Han River. But the rates are lower than hotels in the sightseeing and shopping area where the hotels are generally older too. They could have more free shuttles to Myeongdong eg 9am, 10am to compensate for this.

The concierge wasn't very useful for booking a DMZ Panmunjeom Tour. The company that the hotel offers was full for the week but they didn't offer alternatives. Luckily I had the idea to call other companies and managed to go. They need to deal with more tour companies.

Restaurants in the hotel itself are shockingly expensive. Luckily there are many restaurants connected next door. Hotel needs to address this.

In room Internet is free but unable to connect for some periods. Hotel needs to make sure the connections are more stable.

Overall:
The good rooms and sleep quality make up for the less than central (for sightseeing) location.

JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, South Korea definitely lives up to its name. My Sister and I have stayed here for 9 nights and 10 days.

Service is excellent! Everyone goes out of his or her way to make your stay comfortable and pleasurable. The front desk and concierge staff was always very helpful in restaurant and shopping recommendations. The lobby serves teas and snacks, drinks, etc and is a good place to relax.

Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Executive Lounge is Superb! There are an excellent wide variety of western and Asian selections. Two Thumbs Up!

Rooms are very clean and Comfortable!!! Our room had a wonderful view, very clean and well maintained. Clean and soft linens everyday, comfortable bed and pillows and AWESOME bathroom.

Location is excellent. Subway line and express bus terminal is within walking distance. The hotel is next to a shopping mall with many shopping and a large variety of food choices. There are some shops at the hotel complex including the high-end Shinsegae department store. Plenty of fast food places can be found in the adjacent City Center mall and also coffee places.

I highly recommend this hotel when staying in Seoul!!!! Excellence in Service!

Room Tip: Higher floors has a better view!

Our stay was excellent throughout our stay. The conciege was very helpful in restaurant and shopping recommendations. They were very helpful in assisting us shipping our extra clothes and shopping purchases to our final destination so we did not have to bring along with us on the rest of our sightseeing travels to Busan and Jeju Island.
The hotel is next to a shopping mall with many shopping and a large variety of food choices.
Our room had a wonderful view, very clean and well maintained.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with western (made to order omelets and eggs) and asian selections (noodles, congee, etc.).

This hotel is exactly what you expect for a JW Marriott, which is a good thing.

No disappointments, nice lounge, good restaurants, if a little overpriced, particularly wine.

Connected to large shopping centre also, although mainly pricey boutique and named stores only.

Room Tip: Executive lounge access is a good choice.

As mentioned i stayed a few days in the ritz carlton seoul with club lounge access ...in the beginning it was hard to choose between the 2 hotels as the are in the same area and are to be good hotels. During my stay i visited the club lounge of JW marriott to compare this lounge with the ritz carlton...the view of the 30st floor are great..however the lounge has not got the warmth and luxury atmosphere of the ritz...the ritz offers more exclusive feeling and the food is of a higher level..transportation : beside taxi you can reach JW Marriott by subway but it is really situated in the basement and you must pass a mall and some corridors..not so easy to find you way...the ritz is easier to reach as there is a subway station sinnonhyeon very near ..hope this is helpful
