“The best choice in Seoul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2010

Excellent location. The hotel is close to Myeong-dong, Itaewond, Tower of Seoul....
They offer a dayly free shuttle to Myeong-dong and Itaewond and it only takes 10 to 15 minutes. Everything is close by. The rooms are very nice and clean. The gym and swimming pool are a plus. Everybody is friendly and speak English. A taxi from the hotel to Myeon-dong is about 4 $ us. From the airport to the hotel you can take a shuttle bus for 15'000 wons. To go back you can do the samething as the bus stops at the hotel
There are shuttles every 45 minutes or so.

As a business traveller, seldom would I have time to go out for shopping trips at night. Arrive on a Wed nite, and the location of Grand Ambassador actually allowed me to do so. It was near to the shopping district and even have an hourly shuttle services to the main shopping areas. Not much eatery around though. Check-in staff was ok, concerige service was obliging enough, had room service for a couple of meals and generally that was ok too. Overall, I had enjoyed my stay there and hopefully would be back there again soon.

Stayed at the Grand Ambassador for 3 nights (Thurs-Sat) during October, greeted with friendly and professional staff from the moment of arrival to departure. Just about everyone speaks and understands English, there were not any communication issues.

Location of hotel is near the Dongguk University, northeast of the nearby Mount Namsan where the N tower is located, therefore the walk to the subway (Line 3) to get around Seoul is about 5 minutes downhill. Hotel is conveniently two stops (1 transfer needed) from the popular shopping district of Myeong-dong. When it rained briefly on the first night, its possible to rent an umbrella via the doorman. They also offer shuttles to three popular areas of Seoul, including Myeong-dong and Insadong.

Our room was located on the 14th floor which is also a non smoking floor containing their medium sized business center and their Deluxe size rooms. The deluxe room we stayed in was spacious for Asian hotel standards but not quite comparable to what one is used to in the US. Comfy king sized bed and great lighting was complemented with a medium sized desk for one to complete work on. The room picture on the official site is exactly what the main portion of the room looks like. In room wired internet as well as WiFi is provided by the hotel however it costs approx $15 USD a day whereas its ~$5/hour at the business center. Our room also contained a great view of the N tower at night and faced southwest of Seoul.

Complementary breakfast is apparently $36 USD normally and has hours from 6am-10am which is a small time window for people traveling leisurely, but appropriate for what seems to be a mainly business hotel. The new breakfast buffet at the King's restaurant which opened at the beginning of this month is "nice", lots of freshly made food ranging from sashimi to mango and raspberry juice. Also checked out their first floor bar at night quickly, great happy hour with food & drinks as well as live singers that can sing both English and Korean songs.

Overall, great hotel to stay at with no issues at all. Might not be as grandiose as a hotel like The Shilla, but highly recommended with its great service. Fits the bill perfectly between a 4.5 to 5 star hotel.

There was a coupon from this website for a free breakfast if you booked a stay in this hotel from September 15 to 30, 2010. I I booked this hotel for 1 night through Expedia since I have been comfortable with Expedia. When I checked in and presented the coupon, it wasn't honor because I didn't book with tripadvisor. There was no disclaimer on the coupon saying I have to book through tripadvisor.
I think such a reputable hotel like Grand Ambassador and refused to accept such a complimentary breakfast was not honorable. I explained to the front desk receptionist the circumstances leading to why I booked this hotel but he refused to accept my explanation.
Anyway, I won't come back and stay at this hotel for my future travel to Seoul. There are other hotels within the same price range with better service and better location in Seoul.
One good thing about this hotel is that I had such a pleasure experience to be assisted by concierge, in particular, a young men name Jay. He is an asset to the hotel and very helpful. I hope he can be promoted further on his quest to be great at what he does.

FYI, the internet connection is not free. There is no wireless connection in the lobby either. It should be complimentary in this age, 2010.

The next day I moved to Koreana hotel and I had a pleasant stay.

I have stayed at the Ritz Carlton,Novatel, and Ramada at Gangnam area. The grand ambassador is the best five star hotel and service that I experienced in Seoul. The staff is very friendly and speaks "english"!! I stayed here for a week with my three year daughter during korean Thanksgiving. It was very pleasant and relaxing stay. Especially,I'd like to thank Leonard Kim at breakfast dining for taking care of my girl. The food was excellent and well ballanced (western and korean). Also,I like to mention Jay at the concierge desk for excellent service. Overall, all hotels in Seoul should be as professional as this hotel. Previously, I stayed at the Ramada at Gangnam with my wife, and most of the staff didn't speak or understand english. My wife was frustrated with this. I would come back and stay at Grand Ambassador bcs of the great employees.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I was here for nearly a month, and it was a beautiful place. Interior design is attractive, everything is clean, rooms are comfortable, and view is excellent. The staff are all well mannered and make one feel welcome. Upon check-in I received great personal attention and an introduction to the hotel from one of them, which made for a great start. I would surely stay here again.

A good quality hotel with several restaurants and bars serving food. Good selection for breakfast. Large rooms and very clean.
The function areas and lobby were large and never busy. \always many staff on duty
Seoul is a very confusing city and therefore genherally relied on taxis to get around.
A short walk way nearby there was a street full of small restaurants. Found a restaurant serving Korean food barbarqued at your table.
