“no doubt about the facilities but still too expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2011

I stayed at the Novotel Ambassador for 12 days (11 nights) and there can never be any debilitating issues or problems with the hotel/facilities. The only 'crib' is for the price you pay. The hotel has excellent to awesome facilities and they are very well kept by a diligent and sincere staff. At an average of $250, per night this has been the most expensive business hotel I have stayed at. For a solo traveler, this is waayyyyy too much.

Stayed in this hotel in Dec. near Christmas time. While the property on the exterior looks great as does the lobby, the room we stayed in was a bit dated. The tv (not flatscreen)is not modern, and reception was not clear. We had a problem with the bath plug, as it needed to be adjusted in order for the tub to hold water. With a few renovations, this hotel could be considered an elite hotel in Seoul.
While I realize that in Korea the concept of greeting strangers may be a foreign concept, I found this to be prevalent with the Novotel Korean staff. When I asked for help they were helpful but many employees in the restaurant or lobby passed my by without a good morning or hello-- something that should be usual in a high class hotel. Being from the west and living in Asia I know this is cultural perhaps but being ignored by the staff (except the cleaning staff who said hello to me) is something that will stick in the back of my mind if considering this property again. If the staff would pay a little more to details and the rooms be upgraded a little, Novotel could become a true deluxe hotel.

Dear doggar,

Thanks for passing on your observations and I can assure you we are constantly training to overcome the perceived 'coldness' felt by westerners in Korea. We do have plans to significantly renovate and hope you return to see the positive effects your comments have made.

Excellent Hotel: Extremely clean and tidy. Impeccable service from all staff. Location was good, but no local access to the Subway rail at present. Really good choice of Restaurants in nearby side streets. As with most Hotels of this caliber, dining in house was quite expensive however. Plenty of underground parking. Rooms are quite large and well set out, with all necessary amenities and toiletries.Large screen televisions, and internet connections.Definitely take a travel Sim card with you for Mobile calls back home, as the local network is expensive. I stayed four nights, in a non smoking room.

Novotel Gangnam is a luxury hotel that delivers luxurious service. You pay top money for the top notch service. Rooms are beautiful and clean, the dining area has a big selection of food all in good taste. But dining is not cheap though. It's pricey. But food like I said is opulently good.

My only comment would be on the Internet service. There is no area in the hotel with free wifi connection. It could be available in the executive floors but for those of you (like me) staying in standard rooms, you need to fork up the cash to pay for Internet connection. If you ask me, this type of deal can be the determining factor for a business traveller to chose a hotel. I might consider a different hotel in my next visit to Korea. Much a pity as I really enjoyed staying at such a lux hotel.

Dear iyazmin,

Thanks for the great feedback… I agree that charging for internet connection does differ from country to country. We have bench mark against our competitors in Seoul but will review methodology for the future. We look forward to welcoming you back.

I had to work for a few days in Seoul and my company booked this hotel. I had no problem getting there from the airport. For me, the location perfect because there were several dining options within walking distance. The subway was 2 blocks away which is very nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is very good with many options to choose from. There is a full service Spa at the property but i just went for a swim. The lobby is very impressive and there is a full bar/lounge with a live band. I really enjoyed meeting Korean business men wanting to practice their English after have a few beers. Overall it is hard to find anything to complain about this property.

Room was well appointed with suitable beddings and amenities. Unfortunately, toothbrush was not provided. Great to be able to swim in the covered and warm pool with sauna and spa facilities. Advantage of longer breakfast time with a wide selection.

Dear guest,

The toothbrush is a government mandate to reduce disposable items, as part of a sustainable approach which we support, but if you call to one stop service ( Dial " 0 " ), we are to provide.

A solid good quality hotel of the Novotel brand.
Breakfast buffet is good with lots of choice. The location is excellent in downtown city Seoul.
However I was fairly shocked by the room rate which shot up more than 20% in 6 months. And on top hotel decided to exclude use of the sauna/spa even for superior room guests which means another 25k Won if you want to use the sauna. Gym and pool both free of charge for any guest. Golf driving range available for 15k Won.
For me the newly renovated sports/wellness area was the main reason for choosing this hotel again but with the new policy I think it was the last time I stayed there....

Dear guest,

Our rates do fluctuate with the time of year/season which would account for the percieved increase however of the 5 star hotels in Seoul we remain value for money in comparison. We have always maintained a charge for the Sauna & Golf as a means to provide a great and updated product and reduce the number of guests as we have limited capacity and desire our guests the best possible experience without being overcrowded.
