“Metro magic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Like any new country, getting the basics of how to buy and navigate the local metro system can be daunting. Seoul's metro is among the best in the world with efficient and regular services. There is also a network of underground tunnels linking stations so that much of the inner city can be traversed underground on foot as well.

“Great subway system.”

The Soeul subway system is fantastic. Be sure to get a subway map or there is also an app available on your phone.

“Possibly the best subway system in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

The Seoul Metro is easily one of the best transit systems in the world. Here are my thoughts on why:

- It is incredibly cheap. For convenience, we got the T-Money card. It also saves you 100 KRW on each trip. The base cost is 1,050 KRW for up to 5km and an extra 100 KRW for each 5km after that. The typical city trip won't cost you more than 1,150 KRW (about $1 USD).
- The stations are easy to navigate. All of the signs are in Korean, Chinese, and English. The line numbers and exit numbers are well-marked and give you information on the landmarks to which they lead.
- Each station provides you with three levels of useful maps. First, you have the subway route map, which helps you figure out how to get to your destination. Then, you have the station map, which helps you get around within the station itself. Finally, you have the neighborhood map, which helps you figure out where to go once you exit the station.
- The stations and trains are incredibly safe, even if you are alone at night. Most of the stations have a completely enclosed wall with doors that line up to the train doors, so you know exactly where to stand and there's no danger of being too close to an arriving train.
- The trains also have excellent signage. Again, it's all in Korean, Chinese, and English. The same goes for the automated announcements. If you're paying attention, it would be tough to miss your stop. They even tell you what side of the train to expect to exit.
- With your T-Money card, you can transfer to the bus system at no extra charge. This is because you are still on the same trip and it has the same cost structure.

The only downside is that the trains can get crowded. But I never felt like a sardine. With all the traffic in the city, the Seoul Metro is definitely the best way to get around.

“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

I like that the metro reach almost every part of the city, very easy to use.
But I find it was a challenge for me to go up and down the stairs, cause not all the metro have elevator.
