“Just average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

Location is very good as it is in the heart of Myeongdong. But getting to the hotel from the airport is quite a hassle. The airport bus stops at Skypark 3, and since THIS hotel is Skypark 1 - you will do a little more walking with your bags in tow for about 5 to 8 minutes. The staff in Skypark 3 are nice enough to give you a map and point you to the right direction.

Once you get to the hotel, you will realize that - there are only 3 freaking guest room floors! The Lobby is located a the top floor - and the front desk is manned by only 2-3 people but they don't come out at the same time. They take shifts I think and only 1 staff is out at a time! They can speak english - but not that you can understand very clearly. These staff members FEEL that they know how to speak the language, but most of the time - you will be confused on what they are trying to say.

If you are a SkyPark Member - service will be faster than usual. If you're not a member, expect to wait and not to be noticed as much.

They're very strict on their check-in time which is 2PM you cannot ask them for an early check in. I find it odd that they can't check you in early (since flights from Manila arrive at odd hours) I guess its their hotel's policy right? Oh well!

We got a deluxe twin room and it was spacious compared to the standard twin or standard double room. We saw how small the standard rooms were and were wondering if guests felt claustrophobic! The rooms are fairly clean. The room that we got 814, had a broken AC. The air coming out the AC was warm, but the front desk staff INSISTED THAT IT WAS COOL. Imagine - it was colder in the hallway than inside the room! When we said this, the staff brought an electric fan and told us to OPEN THE DOOR WHILE WE SLEPT?? I couldn't believe my ears when I heard his STUPID suggestion!! He said that he was unable to transfer us to a different room as all the rooms were occupied, he said that he will give us another room the next day. And we were transferred to another room. it was a much smaller room than what we had, but the beds were the same - 1double and 1 twin bed PLUS the AC was cold, so it was okay.

Location is very good. The staff is helpful - it will depend on the mood of their staffs. When I asked their staff how much it would cost for a taxi from the hotel to the airport, she told me 40 to 50 thousand won. Then the next day when I confirmed she said that it was 60 to 70 thousand won. When I asked her why there was a big difference in amount she said that she isnt the taxi and she didn't know. She was being sarcastic I know, but she could have just given the 70thousand won amount to estimate right? I guess she really didn't know. a bit stupid though.

I have a complaint on the BREAKFAST! They were serving HOTDOGS IN KETCHUP the whole 4 days we were there! There was no variety at all! I was expecting them to change the hotdog into something else, but they didn't. So imagine eating the same kind of hotdogs for 4 freaking days!!

Internet is FREE in the hotel. We were lucky that our room had good wifi signal. There;s a desktop in every floor for guests to use. Signal fluctuates depending on the number of users I think.

Room Tip: Be a member first so you can get a cheaper rate for the rooms! :) My friends who booked with hotels...

Best location for shopping and food, helpful staff, small but clean and nicely done rooms... only problem is airport bus station a bit far, especially for family with kids and luggages...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

I stayed at the Hotel Skypark Myeongdong for several days. This hotel is located in the heart of vibrant Myeongdong and is a two minute walk to the Myeongdong Metro Station (Line 4) and a 10 minute walk to the Euljiro 1-Ga Metro Station (Line #2). Hotels in this area are rather expensive, so this hotel offers good value for your money but be prepared for tiny rooms and some inconveniences.

In my encounters with the various hotel staff during my stay, I found their attitude to be rather indifferent, not necessarily friendly or welcoming, but nonetheless helpful. Everyone I encountered, with the exception of the housekeeping staff, spoke enough English to address my basic questions / needs.

I was assigned a standard room in the interior "cluster" of rooms on the floor. My room had a small window but it opened into a narrow "breezeway" between the two sets of inner "cluster" rooms. The breezeway was filled with bamboo plants and offered no breeze or cool air whatsoever. I could see directly into my neighbor's room just a few feet away when the curtains were not closed. The temperature inside the room was uncomfortably warm (around 77F). Even though the room was equipped with an air conditioning unit, only warm air came out of it. From what I understood from the front office person I spoke with about this, because it is winter the aircon is switched off for the season. Since there was no breeze through the breezeway the room was uncomfortably warm 24 / 7. I noticed that rooms facing the outside of the building had large windows that opened to the outside so they could be opened to let in cool, fresh, air. I don't know if these rooms are more expensive but if I were to stay at this hotel again I would ask for one of these rooms.

As others have mentioned, the standard rooms are TINY. Sufficient for one person but rather crowded for two or more. There was extremely limited space to hang / store clothes; just a small cabinet with just enough room to hang a coat and a few items of clothing. The space at the foot of the bed could have been more efficiently used for storage if a rack were placed on the wall allowing the guest to hang and stores clothes. The room with equipped with a small desk, a small flat screen TV, a small safe inside the cabinet, and a hot water pot. Unfortunately, the choice of TV stations was limited to mostly Korean, Chinese, and Japanese language options with only three "entertainment" channels with English language programming (and not all the time) and no English language news options.

The bed was comfortable with the mattress not as firm as I have found in many other countries in Asia. The sheets were clean and crisp. One of the major negatives I found with the room was that the bathroom did not have a dedicated shower. The bathroom was equipped with a handheld shower unit that was connected to the faucet in the sink. A shower curtain was provided to shield some of the shower water from the area around the toilet but ultimately when I used the shower the entire bathroom floor became wet and was rather inconvenient. It would be a simple solution to put a "curb" between the areas around the sink and toilet to avoid water getting all over the entire bathroom floor. Additionally, the placement of the holder for the shower unit was right next to the sink so I had to turn the shower head sideways and stand very close to the sink to be able to shower with the water spraying on me.

Some other incovenienances were a notice from the management that guests should not be in their rooms between the hours of 12PM-5PM (see photo) as this is the time rooms are "inspected" by hotel staff. The sign did say the exception would be if the guest activated the "do not disturb" sign. On one day I stopped by my room around 3PM and noticed staff knocking on guest room doors and doing room inspections. Another incovenience was a request by hotel management, via a sign in the bathroom over the toilet paper dispenser, that "No paper into the toilet" (see photo). I guess it would be up to the guest as to whether to adhere to this request.

On the plus side, there was a computer terminal on each floor with free Internet access. In this same area was a cold and hot water dispenser. On the top floor where reception and the breakfast area are located, there is a nice outside terrace that overlooks the Myeongdong area. Securitywise, guests must use their room card key in the elevator to access their room floor.

My room rate did not include breakfast so I did not make use of the hotel's breakfast offerings. However, being in the heart of Myeongdong there are plenty of places for food and coffee just outside the hotel's front door.

The hotel offers laundry service but it is quite expensive. There is a dry cleaners adjacent to Exit 4 at the Myeongdong Metro Station. Just go to the top of the stairs and keep walking straight for about 30 seconds. The shop is on your left. Laundry service was still expensive (but cheaper than the hotel) as they charge by the piece and not by weight as in Hong Kong. Pants were 5,000 won each and shirts 4,000 won each compared to 7,000 / 5,000 at the hotel.

GETTING THERE

There are three options (other than an expensive taxi) from both Incheon and Gimpo Airports:

Airport Shuttle Bus; #6015 from Incheon Airport and #6001 from Gimpo Airport. Cost is about 10,000 won (about US$9) from Incheon (http://www.airportlimousine.co.kr/route/routee12.htm) and 7,000 won from Gimpo (http://www.airportlimousine.co.kr/route/routee02.htm). From Incheon travel time, depending upon traffic, is about 75 minutes.

Airport Express Train (AREX): 13,300 won (about US$12) + local subway fare of 1,000 won (about US .89 cents) - 43 minutes AREX + 20 minutes local subway: Line 4 to Myeongdong Station. Or, the "commuter train" 3,700 won (about US$3.30) + local subway fare of 1,000 won (about US .89 cents) - 53 minutes on the AREX compared to 43 on the "express".

Note: Even though the express is 3 times more expensive but only 10 minutes faster, the train cars will be a lot less crowded (depending on the time of day) than the commuter train during the commute hours.

Be advised that the transfer at Seoul Station is a long walk (mostly inside) from the AREX arrival / departure platforms to the subway. You will have to negotiate several sets of stairs at both stations so if you have a lot of luggage Option #3 would probably be better, which is to catch a taxi from Seoul Station to the hotel which should only be a 15 minute cab ride.

If you don't have much luggage, the AREX plus subway option is the cheapest (about US$4)and not that difficult or inconvenient. Signs at almost all train and subway stations are in Korean and English. Use Exit #6 at Myeongdong Station. As you exit the turnstiles go left up the stairs, left at the first landing, right at the second landing, and left at the top of the stairs. About 50 yards from the station exit / entrance is the first street. Go left and you'll see the hotel about another 100 yards on your left.

The hotel offers a 30% discount on the AREX fare of 13,300 won for the return trip to the airport. Between the hours of 0900-1700 the hotel offers a free shuttle to Seoul Station. See the hotel front desk for more information.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the exterior of the hotel so you can open a window to get cool, fresh air.

Located right in myeongdong shopping district, this place is a gem. The hotel lobby is at the top level and offers panoramic view of the area. The front desk staffs speak and understand simple English. They are able to advise you on the day tour and places of attraction. At each level, there are computer terminals offering free Internet. Free WIFI is also available. For the ladies, there are also free sample of nail polish all sponsored by Etude House. The room is very clean and comes with cable TV and aircon. I find the bed and pillow very comfortable. Basic toiletries like shampoo, soap, lotion are also replenished daily. Complimentary bottled water is also provided. The only drawback for me is the small room size and rigid policy for late checkout. I requested to check out 1hr later and was told to pay extra for that hour. Hotels rates in central Seoul are mostly at the high side. Skypark room rates are reasonable and I consider it quite a steal for a hotel in such a good location.

Room Tip: Request for rooms with window.

This is an amazing location for the sights and sounds of Myeong-dong. Really bizarre getting a taxi through the massive shopping area to this hotel, but you seriously cannot get a better spot for a weekend of shopping.

The room was not so good though. The room was too small for too people, and the wifi didn't reach our room. Also a bit claustrophobic because there is no natural light coming in.

Service very friendly, liked that. A bit pricey for what we got, though.

The room did smell a bit as well, and the scent lingered as there is no natural air or window removing of it. Not sure if all the rooms are like that, but feel like we might've been unlucky as most of the reviews here are good.

We booked from booking.com.

Overall, pretty good.

Room was terrible small for 2 person, no space for walking after 2 luggages. Bed was big. WIFI??? forget abt it.. my room was too far away from their router at level 9 (Etude corner). They should have plant enough router for wifi..

Service desk was good.

The aircon for hot air was noisy..

Overall, location good but room n wifi lower my rating for the hotel. Stayed from 7 - 8 Feb

The common area of our room seemed dedicated to Etude, very girlie in hot pink and black and would be a teeny bopper's fantasy delight. There is a computer to use and also nail polishes. In the little cubicle was a petite sized white robe edged in satin like material. It is true, it is very clean - the comforter so white and comfy. Travel light and walking from the Airport 6015 bus stop is a cinch. It's the last stop on that line. Just walk forward once you get off the bus for about 2 side streets on your right , take a right and then a left. You will conveniently find coffe shops, restaurants, cosmetic stores, accessories stores surrounding the hotel.
Our stay in Myeongdong was less than 12 hours and we used the hotel only as a place to store our luggage since check in was not until 2 p.m. We got back in time for a nap, a shower then returned to Incheon Airport for our flight home. The room is very tiny but if you have little luggage and are petite then you would find it charming.
The only thing was it was 21 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the room was also freezing cold - could not find a heater or thermostat to make it more bearable.
