“Large rooms and great location but horrible stench”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

The location for this hotel is really great. There are so many shops and restaurants just around the corner, and the metro is about 5 minutes walk away too. We got the private room outside and were surprised at how big it was. We even had a kitchen and a washing machine! However, the bathroom was extremely small and the shower was on top of the toilet. Also, there was only one pillow even though it was a double bed and the room was supposed to be for two people. We didn't get sheets to cover us either.
If you opened the only window in the room you found the ventilation machine for the restaurant next door. The stench was absolutely terrible.
There are two computers you can use inside the main area, but they're almost always being used by other guests who are just there to check Facebook for about 3 hours...There is also a TV you can watch if you're bored, but the location is very good so that should never be a problem.
We only had breakfast on the last day and thank God! It was very disgusting. The "breakfast area" was inside the main building, underground. It was EXTREMELY humid and stank A LOT. Very disgusting to eat breakfast in there and we felt sorry for the people who had rooms inside that area because we thought it must have been just as humid in there too.
However, the staff were always very polite and kind to us. They let us print our flight tickets and gave us a lot of information about Pusan which we were going to next. They even gave us a list of attractions to see and a list of hotels and their prices. A sort of hospitality which is missing in most other hostels in South Korea.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms OUTSIDE. The one's inside stink and have terrible humidity problems.

I booked 5 nights in a private room, as reviews were so good, and price was higher than other hostels, which I thought meant it would be okay. Kitchen was filthy. Rat scratched in wall all night; I saw 2 packets of rat poison in the room. Quilt cover was filthy, mattress in horrible condition. Shower is actually over the toilet; have to take paper out before turning taps on otherwise it gets soaked. I left after one night, and it was a battle to get a refund. I finally offered to pay for two nights, and then I got some money back. Went to a love motel, $5 more, but excellent. Backpacker Mr Sea is an expensive rip-off, go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Free wifi available all over Seoul.

The owner of this hostel, Mr Sea is very friendly, kind and polite. We have booked 3 double private ensuite rooms for 5 adults and 2 children. Mr Sea changed one of the room we booked to a bigger room with no charge! Thanks to Mr Sea

The room is super clean, fully equipped with a small pantry, washing machine, heating shower and floor heater. The only thing left is no hair dryer and kettle in each room. But this is small matter, as we can get the hair dryer and water from the main pantry easily.

The location is great! 2~3 mins walk to the bus station and around 8 mintus walk to the subway station.
A lot of restaurant and shopping lot nearby/across the street of this lovely hostel.

What a 3 nights cosy stay in Backpacker Mr Sea hostel. I highly recommended that!

Room Tip: Highly recommended this hostel!

Mr. Sea Backpacker Guesthouse is in a great little hostel. We came directly from the airport (catch the 6011 bus from the international terminal then just cross the street) and stayed two nights. We didn't interact too much with Mr. Sea but Ram was very helpful telling us how to get hot water (you have to turn on a system) and loaning us a drying rack (some rooms have washers in them but not dryers).

The room was pretty small but nice. It had a washer, fridge, and small stove. It was generally clean but we did see two cockroaches. This hostel doesn't have much of a common room but if you hang out in the lobby area you'll quickly meet a lot of the other guests. The room was quiet and hopefully we didn't bother the other guests too much getting up at 4am (jetlag)

You can't beat the location, right near Seoul National University. There are dozens of restaurants and coffee shops within a couple blocks. The subway stop is convenient as well (line 4).

This was the place where I found out about ondol, the underneath floor heating. Amazing! Such a practical invention as January in Seoul was bone chilling cold and floor heating helps warm up and relaxes the already frozen feet. The place was ideally located at Hyehwa, one of the hub for nightlife goers and the subway was just a walking distance and there are bus station right at the doorstep. This means you can get to anywhere in Seoul at your heart's desire. Uber convenient!
Foods? Not to worry, there are plenty even when your stomach is growling at 11pm, there are restaurants that cater for your needs.
Another thumbs up is that next door to the hostel is the infamous Daiso or the 1000 Won shop which means convenient shopping in your pyjamas anytime!
Would definitely come again next time!

The location is great. Close to subway, next to the Daekhno food alleys and close to most attractions in Seoul. Convenient if you want to stay there and just get in and get out but is more of a hotel atmosphere than a hostel with limited common area. You will get all the information you need from Mr Sea and his associate though and they are extremely helpful.
