“The most AMAZING lobby ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2007

The restoration is a work of art - the lobby is one of the most impressive I have ever seen. I could sit, looking at the decor for hours.

The rooms were spacious, clean and above-average for Marriott. Location is ideal, centrally located in the heart of Tbilisi.

Service was also above-average: the manager on duty brought us extra treats and the staff followed up with personal notes on the status of our lost luggage, even though it was not their fault (note: avoid British Airways and Heathrow at all costs - I was not the only visitor at the hotel whose luggage was lost on BA).

Overall, a wonderfully pleasant experience that I would gladly repeat.

My organisation held a meeting at this hotel, and although we were given a 'special' rate still thought it was hugely overpriced, at EUR 155! (that's in a country with average monthly salary lower than that sum!). At 4-stars this hotel is far from world-class, although they are desperately trying to look like one! Amenities are nice, and rooms too, but service is at times terrible. Sheraton is a direct competitor, with similar price levels, but I can tell you it is even worse!!

If you are in Tbilisi for a short stay and your company is paying for you, then go for it. Otherwise, if you are just a tourist, and looking for a friendly environment and not too expensive, then I would recommend Hotel "Old Tbilisi", at 85 EUR (go for a room with a view to the river!). All of my delegates who opted out for that hotel (as prices at Courtyard were out of budget) loved it!

The Marriot has good-size rooms in good condition. The restaurants are okay, nothing special. Breakfast is really quite good. The staff do not always succeed in offering good service, but at least they always try. As you are not spoilt for choice in Tbilisi, it is a fairly safe bet. The only downside is that it is really quite expensive for what it offers. Not usually an issue for the business traveller, but I would not shell out my own money for it.

I stayed in the Tbilisi Courtyard Marriott for 12 days in April-May 2005. The location can't be beat - it is on "Freedom Square" off of the main street, Rustaveli, in town. Within walking distance of the old town, national art museum, restaurants and dry bridge art market. Rooms were comfortable with refrigerator - ask for a view of the square. Restaurant is mediocre, bar is even more mediocre, but you can walk down the street to the main Marriott Hotel (that's right there are two in town, one upscale, one for business travelers) if you are searching for finer dining. There are no stores in the hotel, no foreign press available to buy. There is a small "grab and go" area at the front desk where you can buy toilettries and snacks. There is an extensive breakfast buffet which is included in the room cost.

I have stayed in the Tbilisi Marriott on several occasions and have been quite satisfied with both the facilities and staff on each occasion. The rooms are quite good and the gym is one of the better ones I have found. The restaurant is solid and the breakfast exceptional. I would recommend the Marriott should Tbilisi be in your future.
