“Sound Little Hotel in a Great City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

I stayed 4 nights in the Hotel City whilst exploring Tbilisi and the surrounding area.

My flight got in very early in the morning but the hotel were happy to store my luggage until later in the afternoon when I could check in. Check in was quick and easy and there is a doorman on hand to help you with your luggage if required.

The room was quite big although the bathroom was a little on the small size. A good sized double bed with comfortable pillows and and quilt allowed me to have some very comfortable nights sleep during my stay. The rooms are equipped with flat screen TV and minibar but lacked tea/coffee making facilities and room safe which are pretty much standard in most hotels these days. My room was bright although this was down to the lighting rather than the small windows which had no view to speak of. That said, this didn't bother me as I spent very little time in the room with the delights of Tbilisi calling me. The only slight gripe I had about the hotel was the standard of soundproofing with the rooms. A screaming baby kept me awake (and woke me early) on night and corridor conversations easily drifted into the room.

The staff were friendly and helpful and mainly spoke pretty good English which made communication easy.

One previous occupant moaned about Hotel City being a smokers hotel - I don't know where they got this from. I didn't see anyone smoking in the hotel during my stay and didn't smell the unmistakable stench of cigarette smoke either so I certainly would let this put anyone off.

The breakfast was fine (despite others moans). Whilst reasonably basic it had both cooked and continental options and the food was tasty and well presented; the porridge was especially nice!

I would happily return to Hotel City should I be visiting Tbilisi again.

We stayed for 2 nights in this small hotel. It is 50 mt. to Freedom Square. Great location to Old City, Rustaveli and all touristic places. The rooms do not have any view, the service and the breakfast could be better. The terrace is very good. If you find good price you can stay but above 100$ is not feasible.

Last year I've spotted only two minor issues with this otherwise extremely nice hotel - one of them is hard to undo, the rooms, while very nice and cozy, are on a smaller side, unfortunately, and especially small are the bathrooms. The second was that the advertised rooftop terrace was not functioning, and hurray, this one is solved, nice terrace with great views on the beautiful old Tbilisi and further on, is there, all yours. To me, this is enough to make it an excellent place from a very good one, as I have graded it last year.

Small, cosy hotel in the center of Tbilisi, near Independece square and Shota Rustaveli street. Hotel located on small narrow side street. Neighbor building across the road is Thai erotic massage...

This is a SMOKERS hotel. Please do not believe any other info. It is allowed to smoke in EVERY room of the hotel, in the lobby and in the restaurant. Rooms are ventilated after each guest, but of course the cigarette smell stays in carpet/ bed lining / walls etc. Night Porter WAS SMOKING LIKE CHIMNEY IN THE LOBBY, and all the smoke was coming IN EACH AND EVERY ROOM OF THE HOTEL!!! When we asked him to smoke outside, he refused, claiming that smoking is allowed in the hotel...

So please be seriously warned about the smoking problem. If you are a non-smoker (like myself), your stay would be a disaster!

Hotel has 19 rooms located over 5 floors. Each room is equipped with air conditioning and free internet WI-FI access. Air conditioning units are quite cheap models by Hyundai (separate unit in each room), which dry the air while cooling it, making it almost impossible to breeze. If you decide to open the window - you willbe surprised by the noise coming from the street (being located in city center the are drunken turists and locals, shouting at each other, singing songs etc till about 2 in the morning. There are also police cars driving around and using their signal and loudspeakers to tell the drunken locals to come down (which everyone in the radius of 5 kilometers hears as well)...

I stayed in room number 18, on 4th floor, below the roof terrace. As terrace closing quite late, each night a hotel worker was moving furniture on the terrace, preparing it for the next morning. He was doing it between 1 and 2:30 in the morning.... Which made it impossible to sleep...

I gave some clothes to wash and iron and asked reception to deliver them back the next day. So after having trouble falling asleep because of the noise, a nice girl from reception calls me the next morning (on Saturday) at 08:00 IN THE MORNING to tell me that my clothes are ready for pick-up!!! I asked her why she did not call me at 06:00 to tell me this info...?

Hotel has NO PARKING facility, there are also no parking garages available anywhere near the hotel. So I had huge problem parking a rental car.

Breakfast is quite poor. Only some cheese / ham, yogurt, tea / coffee and water Mellon... Breakfast room has only 8 small tables and is located in the basement. Once again it is allowed to smoke inside and the WORKERS ARE SMOKING there... I saw a barkeeper enjoying a cigarette in the at the bar while people were having a breakfast... Absolutely ridiculous....

So all in all, I warn you to stay away from this place.

Tbilisi is FANTASTIC CITY defenetly worth a visit!!!

Room Tip: ALL ROOMS ARE SMOKING!!! If you are a non-smoker - it's a disaster!!!

This is a nice little hotel. We stayed here altogether 7 nights in July 2013 and it was an excellent choice. The location is very good, situated in the old town and close to the Freedom square. The room was very clean, the beds very good, the shower with a lot of water and good pressure. The breakfast had a lot of choices and was ok. Well, the orange juice could have been better. The staff was very helpful and service minded, also when we arrived very late at night. We enjoyed staying at the roof terrace, which has a lovely view. There is a nice bar close to the hotel, on the corner to the bigger street.
Hotel City is a good choice if you like a small hotel with a perfect location :)

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel when I was on a business trip in Tbilisi. I was on crutches so I was a high maintenance guest, but the staff were always courteous, friendly and helpful. They constantly went out of their way to ensure I was looked after. The panorama room was clean, quiet, modern, and had a nice view. The Internet was very fast, and free. The location of the hotel was very central and close to all major tourist attractions (even though I saw none, due to broken leg). I would definitely recommend this hotel. And again, I can not thank the staff enough for all their kind help throughout my stay.

Room Tip: Panorama rooms offer great views, but may be a little small for a couple.
