Very nice and picturesque everywhere on the location. Mosquitoes were in my room but after using provided plug- in they disappeared. 3 restaurants to choose from and a bar in the lobby was great.
Very accommodating and friendly staff always with a smile.

Room Tip: Had a main floor room facing the lake. Nice view.

First of all, the setting is lovely, the grounds, the pool are great. We had a room on the lakeside and enjoyed the sunsets each evening. The room was large, clean, had a coffee/tea maker, refrig, usual bathroom amenities. The Palace fell short with its restaurants. We ate in the Chinese restaurant upstairs the first night and had a hideous meal. I ordered beef with lime coconut sauce and it arrived looking pasty gray....gray meat, gray sauce, even gray water chestnuts. Another ordered pork fried rice and it was all crispy fat, and the third person ordered duck that had to be returned three times to the kitchen until it was adequately hot enough to eat. That said, our complaints were addressed and delt with although it had to be done through the hotel management and not through the restaurant manager. The breakfast buffet each morning is more than adequate, the fast inroom WIFI is much appreciated especially when traveling in Myanmar. All said, I would probably elect to stay somewhere else the next time in Yangon. Prices continue to escalate dramatically in this beautiful country now the it has 'opened itself' up to tourism. You will pay a premium price for these 'higher end' establishments and might actually find a better deal staying at a smaller and more intimate place.

We in fact stayed here on 3 occasions. We had rooms overlooking the lake and I think the higher up you are the better it is. On our 3rd stay we were upgraded to the diplomatic suit. Which we enjoyed, but I do not think we would pay extra. As our plane was not leaving until late afternoon on the day of departure, we were kindly given a late departure for the room. Also on one occasion we had to leave at 4am for the plane, so a packed breakfast was provided
A wide selection at breakfast We tried all 3 restaurants for a meal, and much prefered the chinese one. We thought the buffet meal in the downstairs restaurant was poor. Good seating area, for a drink inside and out and there is a "happy hour" Swimming pool closes at 6 and had quite a few insects in it.

Room Tip: We prefered a room overlooking the lake

Very nice lobby and room.

But the best part of our visit were the restaurants. We had the seafood buffet the first night we stayed and were wowed by the great selection of seafoods. It was all excellent.

The next morning we had one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever had. The coconut soup was to die for.

The good news: the hotel is located on a beautiful city lake and has easy access to its many scenic walkways around the lake. It also has a lovely exterior and public ares are very pleasant, even grand. Elevators are state of the art, as are bathroom fixtures, and the bathroom was adorned in beautiful marble. That being said, what's really important to me as a traveler is that my room be comfortable, quiet, and have certain amenities and a standard of service; unfortunately, the Kandawgyi Palace did not meet those criteria. First, it was exceedingly noisy. To be honest, my room faced a busy street and the traffic penetrated my earplugs throughout the night. Although I had a view of the Shwedagon Pagoda, I would gladly have traded it for peace and quiet and a good night's sleep. Not that the other side of the hotel would have been better, because the noise from a wedding in the garden area complete with dancers, a singer, and a loud band was earsplitting as well, and this was continuous throughout my dinner and went on into the night. Service was barely average - no smiles in sight and the staff behaved as if they were doing me a favor to respond to a request. And then there were the tiny sugar ants around the sink...All in all, I was left appreciating the early morning walk...and glad that I was leaving Yangon so as not to risk a repeat of the night.

Yangon has not numerous hotel to propose. Not yet. Apart from the very expensive governor hotel or Strand hotel, the Kandawgyi is a good compromise although a bit overpriced. Built from the Myanmar tradition way, the hotel has some charm. The view on the lake is nice, The Pagoda is 5 minutes away. Staff is very friendly and the Chinese restaurant is of high quality (try the korean beef and the sesame shrimps: excellent). Rooms and bathrooms are not necessarily in line with a 5 star hotel but they are comfortable and again, with a certain tradition charm. Breakfast buffet could present a bit more fruit. As this hotel is well know, it is appreciated by the trourist groups and for events (wedding, parties, ...). So not always quiet.

Stayed for our first 2 nights in Yangon but used the outside deck area several times during our time in the city. We liked the lake side setting, the outside deck area/ gardens and the pool area. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Our room was on the lake side away from the busy road so quiet with pleasant views. Air com in room, mini bar, comfortable bed, good shower. Food in the restaurant was very good with lots of choice.
Lots of European tour groups and several weddings during our stay. We would use this hotel again.
