“Very nice hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2009

Very nice hotel. Big rooms, comfortable beds, great food in the restaurant. Staff was very helpfull and (as everwhere in Myanmar).
Yangon is very small and can be seen in 1 day. Spend here 2 nights in december and 1 night in January upon returning home after a tour in Myanmar. Spend quite some time around the Pool Orginally our tour agency included a different hotel but after checking on trip advisor I changed it to Savoy. This turned out to be a good choice. Pool area is very nice. Downtown is about 10 min by taxi, costs about 2-3USD.
Taxis are from January, in steps, required to have meters so thats makes it even more easy to move around. Highly recommended hotel for everybody. Try the spagetti Carbonarra!

Fabulous hotel, and reasonably well located. Not close to the heart of Rangoon like Traders and The Strand, but close enough by taxi. The one-way fare to Scots Market was around $4, and took about 15 minutes - if that. The rooms were really nice, as were the restaurants.

And the swimming pool area was a great place to escape from the heat - generally we had it to ourselves.

The bar was excellent, especially the Happy Hour. There is a large screen LCD TV, which enabled us to watch the 2008 AFL Grand Final and the Singapore night Grand Prix. Many expats use the hotel, so for 2-3 hours each night the place was really humming, but not in a boisterous way.

I loved The Savoy's ducks!

A lovely hotel. Fantastic food and not too expensive. Friendly staff. We stayed in a suite as it was low season and he rates were low. The extra space was fantastic. Breakfast was good as well.

There is a shoe shop just up the road which is also very good.

stayed at Savoy either side of a trip to ngapali (wonderful). the savoy is just the best place to stay in Yangon. they keep it simple and yet it is comfortable and authentic (ish) . staff are all pleasant and competent. reccommend dining out on the 1st floor terrace for a lovely atmosphere and excellent food. the whole of our stay in Myanmar was first class and we feel priviledged to have `found` a country early in its tourism life. these people deserve our patronage because they are quite simply warm and very friendly.

taxis from Savoy are easy to arrange and cheap - yes you could walk (although to Hotel staff the idea that a tourist would walk down to city centre is outrageous) and youre giving a hard working taxi driver a bit of much needed work. its about 5 mins to the centre.

I stayed here with my girlfriend at the beginning and end of our week-long trip to Myanmar. On the way in, we were impressed with the attention to detail, but it wasn't until we were stuck there when Cyclone Nargis hit, that the staff really went out of their way to accomodate.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and during the storm we were very pleased to have been in a small building rather than on the 20th floor of a big hotel. The colonial building held up very well to the 200 km winds. Not only that, despite being severely under-staffed, as staff could not get to work after the storm, they did everything in their power to make our stay as "normal" as possible with the little resources they had.

The place has a great restaurant and bar, both of which remained open throughout the days following the cyclone.

This place has my business each and every time I return to Rangoon.

  • Liked — Location, near the Shewedagon Pagoda, antiques throughout.
  • Disliked — Nothing to complain about.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel in September 2006 upon arrival in Yangon and again before departure from Myanmar.
Overall: very pleasant stay, extremely helpful and service-oriented staff speaking perfect English, good breakfast, nice room and comfortable beds.
Hotel: colonial style with lots of antiques around.
Outdoor pool: relatively small, but nice setting.
Rooms: big and nicely furnished.
Breakfast: no buffet, but selection a la carte whatever one would like to have.
Restaurant/Bar: nice for a sundowner...

Overall, it is a smaller hotel with the nice personal touch you can expect. Great stay !

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2008

My husband and I stayed at the hotel from 7-10 Feb 08. It looked like a quaint colonial house. Service was excellent. Rooms were big and tastefully decorated. The food was pretty good considering, with more than sufficient variety. The pool area is lovely. Would suggest a room facing the pool as the ones on the outside are by a main road and may be noisy. Prices at the hotel are resonable. Only complaint is the hard mattress and the room walls are thin so you can hear the TV next door and people moving about in the corridor.
