“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Good hotel, in a great location. Rooms are not new but are clean and have internet connection. Large and comfortable. Popular hotel, good for business meetings and special events, many of those going on. Restaurant is fair, just ate there for breakfast. Prices are very high.

Stayed for a few nights for business and had a corporate event at one of the ballrooms available. For 4 nights of stay, there are always events or weddings happening here. The gem of this small, lively hotel is definitely the staffs kind hospitality, very attentive indeed.

Had access to club lounge upstairs which has a great view of the park and pagoda. Coupled that with some local beverage and snacks...lovely!

Its not a super fancy place, but the price...oh dear. The price for 4-5 star hotels in Yangon in general is just plain pricey, maybe due to hotel shortage or peak season...so can't complain much.

The Chatrium is comfortable, safe, friendly, well located and relaxing. Staying 3 nights, our room was spacious, quiet and plainly but well decorated. We had a safe deposit box, free wifi and drinking water. The bathroom was of a similar good standard with a separate walk in shower.
The main restaurant serves a wide range of cuisines and is reasonably priced. The pool area is clean, sizeable and restful.
The only minor shortcomings were that our 2nd floor room had no view, the breakfast buffet at peak times, between 7-8am, is overwhelmed and the water supply was warm rather than hot when demand was high.

To begin a caveat: If we'd have paid half of what we did (USD 274/night) my review would have had 4 stars. But when you charge top dollars you need to deliver. And Chatrium didn't. Location is only so-so. Too far from the center with nothing much around. Even the name is a bit of bait and switch as you cannot easily enter the lake area from the hotel. The rooms are a bit drab, the carpet ate a lot of dirt and cleaning chemicals and smells. The balcony door is not to be opened (we managed thanks to a broken mechanism.) And worst for this price, out of our four nights on three there was an event happening on the terrace just outside our window with super loud music, MCs, people jeering (at least they had a good time) you could hardly hear your own words in the room. Luckily they stopped the party at 9.30pm each night. The saving grace from a one star review was the staff. As all over Burma they were friendly, helpful, charming. That's a good start but doesn't win the race at that price.

Room Tip: Not to the inside court. Yet I don't know about the noise level towards the street.

First trip to Yangon and this hotel, an old building but very well maintained. The staff are well trained and service was excellent. The restaurants are all very good value especially the Friday night Sea food buffet. We ate at both the Chinese and Japanese restaurants and the staff were very good and not pushy. The breakfast buffet was excellent with wide choice of foods. My only complaint was the hot water in shower had poor pressure and varied from hot to just warm depending on the day and also the internet was slow but this is a country problem not just the hotel. . I would go back to the hotel again. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in 5 hotels in Burma and of the 4, 2 were top notch city hotels and this was one of them. Beautiful pool and gardens. Best and most extensive breakfast buffet we had.comfortable beds in a spacious room. Free internet and room safe.

Nice hotel with easy access in Yangon. Fitness is very good, swmingpool is big and nice. Food for the breakfast is good. Nice terrace of the bar is good to get a drink in the evening. Rooms are big, nice view to the city and/or Pagoda. You can book through internet by your credit card. We will come back soon ! Several restaurants are located quite near easy to go walking.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at lower floor close to the swimingpool. There weedings parties often and after the weed...
