“Stay on the SW Side”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

For a county barely out of the 70s this is a very nice hotel. Insist on the SW side on upper floor facing the Shwedagon Pagoda OAT and many tour group tend to not push for best room views.

Room Tip: Just watch the Internet connection charges. Connecting to the hotel's Wifi does not mean connec...

Clean and well furnish by Yangon's standard, the hotel is also consider to be on the higher end of the cost scale. The conceige staff are helpful though they are not knowledgeable. The information they provide lack accuracy, so do your own check if possible. (twice the restaurants they recommended were closed). The guest relation staff unfortunately wasn't helpful at all. One plus point of the hotel is they are one of the rare few hotels in Yangon that accept credit card (with an extra 7% surcharge)

We stayed at the Chatrium two nights in December, 2011 and one night this January. The location is wonderful for visiting the Shwedagon Paya and we found it easy to use taxis to and from the center of town.

Positives are a smooth check in, easy check out, helpful staff at the door. They assisted with luggage and taxis. The room was clean and service in the lobby coffee shop and restaurant was excellent.

One the negative side if you are a non smoker make sure you are on the non smoking floor. We were and it was fine. Also as some other reviewers have mentioned there sometimes is noise from a party by the pool. This happened one of our three nights staying there but the party adjourned by 9 pm.

Room Tip: One side of the hotel has a view of the Shwedagon Paya so if you want to see this from your room you...

This is just once again one of these hotels of which there are not 12, not 13, but seventeen in a dozen.
Long corridors, enter a room with your key card, bathroom either on the left or on the right, double bed, one seat, one chair, small table, small flatscreen, expensive minibar.
Furthermore, as reported in other reviews, noisy receptions around the swimmingpool which means you don't have access to the pool, and also can't stay in your room as there is simply too much noice.
Therefore, unacceptable.
Staff so so, not too motivated although as usual in these parts of the world very friendly.

I spent 2 nights at this hotel for the new year vacation. Everything was great e.g. clean, lake view, various TV international channels, nice toliets, good beds. Breakfast was great, should try local veggie food. Thai message was incredible. So I would really recommend to stay in a nice relaxing hotel to pamper yourself from hot weather outside.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Location is facing the famous Kandawgyi Lake. Looby is welcoming, check in is breeze, welcome drink with a smile. Bedrooms are spacious, bed is good. the deluxe room as separate shower cubicles. Free mineral water, good health centre, spa and the rooms facing the Schewadagon Pagoda is awesome at night. The hotel has souvenier shops, 3 restaurants. Breakfast is good and the speard is both local and western.. Good food. if u r flight is early they even pack yoru bfast ina box for you to take away. The Schewadagon Pagoda is 30 mins if u were to walk to the East Gate. There are alot of restaurants within walking distance within the lake area.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms that face the lake and the Schwedagon Pagoda

Everytime I have visited Yangon, I stayed at the Chatrium. Actually, I stayed here since it was called Nikko Hotel. Even though this is not a very new hotel, the management has always kept the room nice and clean. Once you arrive to Chatrium, you can immediately experience the wonderful Burmese hospitality. Their staffs always smile and be ready to serve. The breakfast is also good, with wide vareity of Burmese, Japanese, and American. One of the hotel's strong points is its location which is in the city center. I always miss the moment when I wake up in the morning, open the window and there stands the Chwedagong (The Golden Pagoda). Also the view of light-up Chwedagong at night is breathtaking.

Room Tip: You MUST ask for the room with the view of Chwedagong.
