“good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

I basically stayed here, bc I knew the name from Singapore. and when travelling to a place where credit cards could have been an issue, I wanted the option to potentially deal with the singaproe branch if anything went wrong. but I needn't have worried, bc this hotel was great. there is one restaurant around the corner where all the foreigners go. and also, there is a massage place around the corner at another hotel (a bit run down, but has a money changer in the lobby at certain hours). that massage place was excellent and inexpensive, but of course prices are bound to be going up and up. I think this is likely the last year before things change a lot. even as I was there, you could see changes taking place... so they are ramping up to take advantage of the increased arrivals. you see signs for English courses everywhere. one thing was the tour guide I had arranged bailed on me bc he got a bigger fish; but the guy at the concierge called a person who arranges tours and let me talk to her on the phone. this saved the day... so overall I think you can't really go wrong booking here. one thing was that they were doing remodelling, so keep that in mind. oh and I had arranged for a pick up at the airport via email... the guy said yeah 15 dollars. so we get to the hotel and he says that'll be 30 us dollars please. and I said wait, you said 15. and he said well, 15 for me to come to airport and 15 to take you to the hotel. so, be aware of these types of mini-scams bc there is really no (enforcement of/or) regulation in these wild west days of Myanmar. that said, the guy I got for the tour was very polite and at the end of the tour even asked "may I now go and have dinner with my family". and I was like well yeah, we finished the tour so go and do what you gotta do...

Room Tip: they are doing remodelling so ask about that upon booking. like say you don't want to be near th...

Thank you for your kind comments and review of the hotel, I am very pleased that the Concierge went out of his way to find you a quality guide while in Yangon. We now are able to change US $ at reception so that will help on your next visit, our recently opened Health Club has a good foot massage so we look forward to you trying out some of our other services. Breefree we continue to make improvements and look forward to you staying with us. PhillipC

It was a delight to read your recent review, the Lobby Lounge is a very popular location for people to meet and socialise , the internet is fast and it is a very special environment. Nicole is proudly Myanmar and an asset to the team , Shangri-la makes developing local people like Nicole a priority and your comments will motivate others like her to grow and deliver the kind of service you enjoyed. 'Shower in bath with shower curtin' is a good analogy for this hotel. It gets the job done, but is dated, and not a 'great' experience. The Summer Palace restaurant should be bypassed for the main eatery on the ground floor but the second floor bar is great. The gym is new and has great staff. The main market is a short walk. Traffic between 8:30am and 6:30pm is terrible but at least at Traders you are in the best starting point to get to most places. Sabai Thai restaurant is good. The pagodas are beautiful at night.

Trader is nice, safe and very convenience hotel. The meal is good and choice able, you will feel like home. For travelling around Yangon, please make sure you spent your time a bit as traffic is unpredictable and make sure the Driver understand about safe drive.

Room Tip: The non smoking room is very good and very cozy

Excellent hotel: clean, comfortable and very elegant decor. Probably the friendliest hotel staff I have encountered - genuine smiles and very helpful. I also liked the breakfast for its interesting variety and good taste.

We stayed at the Traders for 5 nights and used almost all facilities.

From check-in to check-out we had a great time and there wasn't really anything we can complain about. The rooms are currently under renovation, but I think we must have stayed in an already renovated room. And although there was a sign in the room apologising for construction noise we only heard them once for 5 minutes.

The bed is very comfortable, bathroom is clean with all amenities like hair-dryer, bathrobe, etc. Rooms come with a flatscreen TV with international channels, a working desk and a sofa on the side and are quite spacious. Free internet is definitely a plus and the speed was quite good. Although downloading larger files and movies still takes quite some time. An ironing board and iron were also available in the room.

What annoyed us a bit was that they came every morning at around 8.30AM to ask if we had any laundry (which we didn't), so not so good if you want to sleep longer.

There is a pool, which is quite nice and the hotel also has a gym, which we didn't try.

The restaurants are quite good and serve Western and Asian dishes.

Buffet breakfast offers a good selection of mainly Western and Chinese dishes including fresh fruits and live cooking station. The lunch buffet is also recommended.

Staff: exceptional. Always friendly, always greeting you with a smile and always happy to help. We asked them to arrange a booking in an outside restaurant and they were extremely helpful. You don't find this very often anymore.

If we have a chance coming back we will definitely try and stay at Traders again.

Room Tip: There are 22 floors, we stayed on the 11th facing West. I am not sure if they have rooms facing Nort...
