“Traders Hotel. Yangon - A friendly haven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

During a recent trip to Myanmar my husband & I stayed at the Traders Hotel and would highly recommend it - but book early as it is a very busy place! It is perfectly located in the middle of Yangon, is modern, recently refurbished (& this is still ongoing) with inviting dining room & wonderful staff. The Customer Relations girls in the lobby area in particular, dressed in their elegant national costume, are absolutely delightful.

The main dining room is cheerful, the food of a very good international standard, the staff friendly & attentive - not formal. We had a family dinner party here & all our guests loved it - & they are well travelled. If eating in the lobby area for a more informal meal be prepared to sit in a busy area - it is interesting what goes on! The lounge/pub area upstairs serves similar light meals but the service needs improvement.

We had breakfast room service twice - both times it was mixed up but the 2nd time they were extremely apologetic & we were given complimentary wine & fruit - it is a learning curve I think for some of the staff.

The room was a good size, the lighting convenient; we had to change our booking while there and it was no problem. All in all, a lovely hotel & we would go back anytime1

This was my second stay at this Hotel. This was for a one night stay. As before, I brought enough cash with me to pay them instead of having to use a third party credit card payment system. Be aware that this adds extra cost to your stay.
Getting to the hotel is uneventful from the Airport. All the Taxi Drivers know the hotel. Make sure that when you get a taxi tell them upfront you want Aircon if it is hot outside. This might cost you an extra $1 USD but worth it.
As there are limited hotels in Yangon, this hotel does sell out quickly, esp for the lower rates. Book early to make sure you get the lowest rate.
For the return to the airport I just asked for a normal taxi but they got me a nice car for the same cost as a taxi. So avoid booking a hotel car and you will still get a good ride to the airport.

Traders is a good hotell with a very serviceminded staff and an excellent restaurant. The hotel is working hard to upgrade all room and the noise between 9 and 18 can be an irritant. For guest not at home on day time, it is a good choice with an excellent location

Stayed in Traders August last year. While it was pretty much crowded, you still get that personalized service. For $160 dollars corporate rate, had complimentary fruits and nuts and bottle of wine plus accecc to the executive lounge. Went back to Yangon December and January 2013- Traders was fully booked. This March we tried booking on line and requested corporate rates. My colleague was able to book his stay for $200/night with access to the Lounge. I wasn't lucky. Stayed in nearby hotel. Next day, went over to Traders and was told a room was available but different rates for walk-ins. $250/night with $20 more for access to the Lounge. Forced to book it since most of my meetings are at Traders. I should've thought better. During the day, construction work was ongoing and the noise gave me headaches. No more complimentary wine and fruits. Dirty toilet and the lobby could rival Bogyoke market. Never again. If you want a clean nice place value for money, stay away from Traders.

It’s great that you took the time to share you review of the hotel on your last stay, as your feedback allows us to constantly improve. I would like to apologize for the condition you found one of the washrooms in the lobby. This has been challenging for us to maintain at an acceptable level of cleanliness. As we offer free wi-fi the hotel lobby has many non-residents in it as well as other persons using the hotel base to work from or a meeting point. We have been overwhelmed with non-hotel residents coming into the hotel As these washrooms were not designed for this level of volume we have since closed this area down and it is being re-modeled.
We pride ourselves in the Traders Club floor being popular and offer our guests complimentary amenities For some reason you seemed to have not received yours for which I apologize. Bluesoul please feel free to contact me should I be able to be of any further assistance and if you email me at phillip.couvaras@traders.com when planning your next trip to Traders I will endure you receive the warm and friendly service which we are proud of.

Returned at Traders for six nights earlier this month and again it felt like our home away from home in Yangon. Many of the staff remembered us from our previous visits - the last being one year ago - as we did them.
The downstairs restaurant where the buffet breakfast is served has been refurbished and the choices remain good and varied although I didn't notice any local dishes on this occasion. Also, the flavours of the Indian dishes seemed milder than before - perhaps to cater to a seemingly increasing number of foreigners? Also, not unique to Traders but worthy of mention, is that the breakfast food can be lukewarm even just after the official opening time of 6am as sometimes it is prepared very early to accommodate a tour group.
The Club experience was again well worth the extra dollars... the lounge is temporarily on the third floor whilst renovations are ongoing but the food and drinks selections more than made up for the lack of windows and a view. All of the staff in the lounge were charming, professional and friendly.
Wifi excellent in the lounge - less fast and consistent in the room.
In fact, the only real negative this trip was the noise from the renovation work. Our room was on the 19th floor and for several hours each day - with the exception of the Sunday on which we arrived - there was drilling almost immediately overhead and this made it impossible to stay in the room. We even tried turning up the TV full volume but to no avail!
Another issue to consider is that Traders, as with many hotels and guesthouses in Myanmar today, is now often operating at full or almost full capacity. Where this was most apparent was in the difficulty in securing a hotel car for sightseeing or meetings at short notice.
If I was being really nit-picky, the staff in the mezzanine level bar could do with a slight kick up the a"%e. Our empty glasses and dirty plates sat on the table for a good hour without being cleared even though the bar was virtually deserted. And I stood at the bar for more than five minutes when waiting to pay whilst the only visible employee on the other side of the counter carried on texting on his mobile without even making eye contact.
Traders has a great location and the hotel has maintained its friendly vibe. I hope it can continue to compete against the likely influx of five-star rivals that are expected to come into operation over the next few years as Myanmar really opens up to tourism and business.

Room Tip: If not full, check to see where renovation work is ongoing before unpacking your bags. There is less...

We were at Traders for 3 nights with our closest friends, launching a 2 week tour of Myanmar. We were very pleased by the location and service and food. The upgrade to access the club was well worthwhile, with very good munchies and wine available each afternoon as well as good wifi connections. There were 2 reasons I docked one star. First, the hot water in the shower repeatedly became scalding unexpectedly which was shocking and potentially dangerous. We took very rapid showers due to this! Secondly, our card key continuously demagnitized, forcing us to stop at the front desk in order to access our room. I noticed other people had this problem as well. Other than these 2 problems, everything was great. We were across the hall from construction, which might have been a problem if we weren't gone all day sightseeing.

Room Tip: Ask about construction issues. Consider the upgrade to Traders club.

I stayed here one night on a business trip. The hotel is right in the center of town, within a 10 minutes car ride to Schwedegon Pagoda. At the moment there are very few high end hotels to choose from in Yangon, so this is definitely one of the best. The room was well maintained and there was free wifi, a welcomed amenity in a city where your smart phone has a signal but can not make use of data yet. The tv also had cable with CNN, sports channels, etc and this surprised me a bit. Breakfast was very good as well offering a wide range of choices at the buffet. Nothing to fault with the service either and most staff could speak English. The price was about USD200 per night which is certainly not cheap for Yangon - but given the surge in demand for hotel rooms from both business and leisure travelers and the lack of supply I'm not surprised. So if you go make sure to book early and bring a Visa card because the hotel does not accept Amex yet.
