“Lovely hotel. Like walking into a time capsule”

Not much to add to other reviews. We loved the hotel and really enjoyed our stay. It has been nicely restored. Rooms are their original, generous size. The hotel offers "preferred cars", which are an ideal way to tour the city. Staff are perhaps at times a bit amateur. But their good intentions and consistent friendliness more than compensate.

We called into this old Colonial Hotel for it's happy hour (1/2 price cocktails every Friday) and really enjoyed the lively atmosphere, great cocktails.

Whilst we only visited the bar we really enjoyed the experience and wished we were staying here.

The hotel is in a historic building, and feels like you've stepped back in time - in a good way. Our room was large and comfortable.

Due to a gap in management scheduling, we had a very bad experience trying to access the advertised swimming pool services (at an offsite associated hotel), and only got an official response weeks later when I emailed their management directly - even though I'd reported my experience to several staff members at the front desk.

My final take away is that this is an interesting hotel with tons of character, but had problems living up to the image they present. I wish them the best - the manager's emailed response was very thorough and apologetic. While we are not going to be staying there again, I anticipate that they will tackle and try to solve the problems we experienced during our stay.

Since we were on a ship, we enjoyed a respite from the pace of the city by having drinks and lunch here. Beautifully restored in colonial area on the river but can't see it. Gift shops and art gallery have nice selection. Bought here in air conditioning rather than Scott market.

This is an historic hotel full of wonderful character and history with lovely high ceilings and beautiful hardwoods everywhere. Being a historic hotel unfortunately brings with it the historic plumbing issues and getting a hot bath is not easy. I was not able to get enough hot water to fill up ¼ of the tub but when I called reception they sent 2 staff up with a huge pot of hot water and manually filled the tub. Very nice touch! The hotel is on a busy, noisy street so I would suggest avoiding the rooms on the main road. Breakfast was a la carte and very nice in the dinning room. One issue is there are tours coming in all the time in the hotel so you do not feel a sense of privacy that comes when staying at a nice place. It is pricey but I do recommend the Strand to take a step back in time.

This hotel is an oasis. Great location and lovely rooms. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and charming. Room butler is always close by to give you your key. The happy hour at the bar is not only economical but delish! The main restaurant serving local food is reliable and tasty.

When you go inside for the first time it doesn't impress . Then you start noticing the details, the very attentive staff, the quality of the materials, the wood panelling. The bar with the pool in the corner. Even without a swimingpool, next time i come i will try to book a room in here.
